Super Metroid Parasite Necklace: Giver of Life or Sucker of Energy?

I miss the classic Metroid games. The newer ones just don’t do it for me. If you are a fan of the original games, check out this awesome Super Metroid Necklace.

metroid necklace
These parasites like to live on your neck and are made of solid brass and red gems. Just make sure this guy doesn’t suck your life energy out of you. Though at least you will look good until you are drained out.

The parasite pendant is available in brass, sterling silver, or twenty-four carat gold. It’s perfect for bounty hunters with a taste for adventure. The brass version will cost you only $30(USD) from Criticalhitshop, while the silver version goes for $60 and the gold version sells for $1000. It’s a must have for Metroid fans.

Claptrap Gets Plush

Fans of Borderlands, drop what you’re doing and head on over to Etsy this minute. Claptrap is waiting there to help you complete your quest!

claptrap 1

This handmade plush version of the world’s most irritating sidekick was handmade by Sarah Tracy of Fuzzy Aliens. Instead of scrap metal, this Claptrap was made from felt and polyester fiberfill. He measures about 1-foot-tall (plus another 6 inches for his antenna), and even has posable arms. Though I’m not sure if he can really stand up with just that one wheel.

Best if all, you won’t need to loot too many enemies to afford this Claptrap. He’s only $20(USD) over on Etsy.

Doctor Who Wall Clock Gets all Timey Wimey

I don’t think we’ve ever seen a wall clock in the TARDIS, which is odd since it is a time machine after all. If the Doctor ever did hang up a clock, it would probably look something like this Timey Wimey TARDIS Wall Clock from UnicornEmpirePrints.

timey wimey tardis clock

Naturally, the Timey Wimey Tardis Clock is made in the Gallifreyan style. Of course, Time Lords don’t need any numbers to tell the time.

tardis clock

This wooden clock is painted TARDIS Blue, with a metallic gold backing and is about 8″ tall. It’s selling for $46(USD), which is a whole lot less than buying an entire TARDIS.

The Doctor really might want to think about getting a clock, for the sake of his companions if nothing else. It gets confusing going to the past, the future, sideways…

Geometric Origami Lamps: Folding Light

Many years ago – it seems like a lifetime – I used to be a theatrical lighting designer. Even though I’m not in the business any more, I’m always on the lookout for cool lighting fixtures. While digging through the recesses of Etsy, I came across a unique series of lamps from artist Roger Gano of Golden Heart Illuminations.

My personal favorite is his red and gold Dream Weaver origami table lamp shown here. The fixture has two main components. The globe is handmade from 120 interlocking origami components, constructed from translucent parchment paper held together with shoji paper and Japanese Nori glue. The base of the lamp is constructed from veneered MDF formed into a wavelike shape, and then strung with thread. The spines of the lamp are textured with sand and eight coats of acrylic paint, infused with iridescent mica particles. The finished lamp base is reminiscent of the structural composition of a suspension bridge.

It’s really a spectacular design, and definitely something your friends won’t already have in their homes. The lamp shown here is selling for $365(USD), but Golden Heart Illuminations has many other lamps, including ceiling floor and table lamps ranging in price from $55 all the way up to $825.

Zombie Apocalypse Charm Bracelet: Chaaaaaaains!

Being mentally and physically prepared for the zombie apocalypse is only half the battle. You have to remember the right things to include in your bug-out bag. This Zombie Apocalypse Charm Bracelet will help you to remember the essentials.

It includes everything you need to survive – stuff like: an axe, bullets, a gun, matches, canned peaches, a grenade, pliers, a compass and much more. You can find this bit of survival jewelry at PlayBox’s Etsy shop and pre-order one for $32(USD).

Yes, it is fashionable, but it could save your life too. Be prepared! Don’t be caught in a Zombie infested wasteland without it. Remember these items!

Crocheted Minions: Despicable Amigurumi

For me, Despicable Me was a unexpectedly entertaining animated film. Perhaps it was because of Steve Carrell’s hilarious performance as Gru, or maybe it was his Raving Rabbids-esque army of minions. Either way, you won’t be able to resist this collection of amigurumi minions.

amigurumi minions

This set of nine minions was handmade by crochet artist Komang Darmiani, and they’re just waiting to be placed on your desk for family, friends or co-workers to ogle and grope. Each one is made from acrylic yarn and measures just under 3″ tall.

The full set will set you back $99.90(USD) – or just over $11 a minion – not too bad for your own highly-obedient cubicle army, I say.

Evolution of Nintendo Controllers: The Lamp

I could use a new bedside lamp, but I’m pretty sure my wife would make me sleep in the doghouse for a week if I bought this one.

nintendo lamp

This Nintendo controller lamp was cobbled together by Etsy artist Woody 6 Switch, and features controllers from the N64, Gamecube, Super Nintendo, NES and Wii. While it’s incomplete without a Wii U touchscreen controller, I’d imagine that would increase the cost of the lamp significantly. Though I do think it would make for a good base for it. And if you’re wondering about the NES Zapper light gun, that’s available in a separate lamp for the other side of the bed.

While these are awesomely geeky, they’re never coming in my house. For some reason, I’m reminded of the whole Leg Lamp story in A Christmas Story. I think I’d wake up one morning to find it in pieces on the floor, and all of the glue in the house would be used up.

BMO Says It’s Tea Time!

If you watch Adventure Time, you know that BMO is an incredibly versatile robot. He/She/It can function as a video game console, toaster, flashlight, alarm clock, music player, electrical outlet and more. And now, BMO can serve you a cup of tea.

bmo teapot 1

This awesome four-cup BMO teapot was handcrafted by Rebekka Ferbrache of Jade Flower Ceramics, and is a perfect likeness of the Game Boy-inspired robot pal. Rebekka says she was inspired by the Bitter sketch from Five More Short Graybles, in which BMO teaches its alter ego Football how to drink tea with pinkies extended.

But wait, there’s more – you don’t just get BMO when you buy this teapot. You’ll also get four nifty ceramic teacups so you have a place to pour your freshly-steeped brew instead of directly onto the surface of your coffee table.

The BMO tea set is available over on Jade Flower’s Etsy shop for $150(USD).

Lightsaber Crochet Hook Makes You Obi-Wan Craftobi

We’ve seen plenty of nifty crocheted Star Wars items and I’m sure we will see more. But a real Jedi Master crafter uses a weapon like this awesome lightsaber crochet hook.

lightsabercrochethook
Imagine what you could create with this lightsaber. It’s an elegant crafting weapon for a more civilized age. These cool crafting implements are made by Cherelled and are just $15(USD).

They are made from polymer clay. If you want to make one yourself, the tutorial for the grip can be found here. Craft or craft not. There is no try.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Crochet: Heroes in a Snail Shell

Teenage Mutant Ninja Snails are just like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They can be found in sewers, and I bet they love pizza too. Sadly, they can’t reach their weapons. And bad guys can always track them by their slime trail.
