Star Wars LEGO Mosaics: The Real LEGO Star Wars

Technabob readers love LEGO and they also love Star Wars. So whenever the two worlds intersect, it’s geeky bliss. I’m especially impressed with these handmade LEGO Star Wars mosaics by UK artist Douglas Bagnall.

Each of his LEGO mosaics is made using thousands of individual 1×1 pixel blocks to create the image. The R2-D2 mosaic measures 30″x40″ and the stormtrooper is 30″x30″. Based on the 5/16″ square size of a single LEGO brick, that means that R2-D2 was made out of 12,288 bricks, and the stormtrooper was made from 9,216 bricks. Holy crap, that’s a lot of LEGO  – assuming my math is correct.

They’re certainly not inexpensive, with R2-D2 selling for £1,840.00 (~$3019 USD) and the stormtrooper going for £1,380.00 (~$2265 USD.) But when you think of all the work that went into making them, it softens the blow a little bit.

3D Printed Ark of the Covenant: Raiders of the Lost Tech

Raiders of the Lost Ark is still one of my favorite movies of all time, and at the center of that film was the quest for the mysterious lost Ark of the Covenant. Now, you can own your own miniature version of the Ark, intricately crafted using 3D printing technology.

3d printed ark covenant

This mini version of the Ark was created using a 3D printer, and is made from 10-karat gold-plated stainless steel. It’s amazingly detailed, with every little nook and cranny down to the winged creatures on the top. It was made by Canadian artist Matthew C. of Geomatrix Studio, and measures 7.8″(L) x 4″(W) x 3.4″(H).

Due to the gold-plating, it’s very expensive, selling for $3400 Canadian Dollars (~$3514 USD). However, Matthew will also take special orders for the Ark in Antique Bronze or stainless steel, with prices starting at $800 Canadian (~$805 USD). That’s still way less expensive and dangerous than traveling around the world on a quest against a bunch of hateful Nazis. Speaking of which, I wonder if this thing would melt the faces off of evil action figures.

Video Game Pasta Bowl: Spaghetti Invaders?

If you know me, you know two of my greatest loves are video games and carbs. Now, I can enjoy these two pleasant pastimes simultaneously, thanks to this video game inspired pasta bowl.

space invaders pasta bowl 1

Clay artist Keith Phillips of Mudstuffing created this wheel-thrown stoneware pasta bowl and embellished it with screenprinted images of Space Invaders and an Atari 2600 joystick. Notice how the largest invader is trapped under a big glass dome? Why wasn’t that a weapon in the original game? It sure seems more humane than blowing them away with a laser cannon.

So if you like your spaghetti served with a side of Space Invaders, head on over to Etsy now, where you can grab this video game pasta bowl for $42(USD).

USB Bracelet: Never Lose a Flash Drive Again

If there’s one thing that I’ve lost a lot of over the years, it’s USB flash drives. From people just taking them, to just losing them because of their diminutive size, USB drives need to be replaced at rapid rate. However, if you had a USB drive hidden in your bracelet, you’d probably be less likely to misplace it.

This USB drive is hidden inside a nice-looking bracelet made out of braided leather. It’s definitely a stylish way to tote around your storage. They come in black, brown and beige, and the 4mm braided leather cord will ensure that it’s nice and comfortable, no matter where you take it.

Star Wars Corsets: May the Force Be With Your Cinched-Up Waist

Nothing helps accentuate a woman’s curves more than corsets. Recently, more and more geek-themed corsets are getting made to the delight of hot female nerds and non-nerds everywhere. Alien and Doctor Who have had their turns with the Facehugger corset and TARDIS corset, respectively.

Now it’s time for the force of the Star Wars corsets to be reckoned with.

Star Wars CorsetsHalloween will certainly be over by the time you get these corsets in the mail, but who ever said they were only for Halloween? Bring them out for cosplays, lace up for parties and other special occasions, and wear them whenever you want to feel pretty and geeky at the same time.

The Boba Fett corset on the right can also be for a Rogue-themed costume if you’re planning to cosplay some X-Men at your next con.

These corsets (and a whole lot of other designs) are available from the Damsel in this Dress Etsy shop.

Felt Star Wars Creations: Stitch Wars

As you know, it’s pretty hard for us to pass up fun Star Wars items around these parts, so when I saw these quirky felt Star Wars plushes over on Etsy, I had to oblige and post them.

felt jawa r2 d2

They’re made by E. Binard, and they’re some of the cutest Star Wars creations I’ve seen. You can choose from a felt Jawa, R2-D2 or Yoda, but I personally dig the hand-stitched AT-AT and Millennium Falcon. I bet that it could even make the Kessel Run in under twelve parsecs.

The felt Admiral Ackbar is pretty nifty too – though the fishhead will constantly be reminding you that whatever you’re planning on doing is a trap.

Prices for these handmade Star Wars felt creations range from $40 to $195 (USD) depending on the size and complexity of the design. Check them all out over on E. Binard’s Etsy shop.

Iron Man Stained Glass: World’s Most Fragile Superhero

Tony Stark is only as tough as he is because of his Iron Man armor. That’s why it’s made out of space age material, not glass. If you want to see the Iron Man armor made from glass, here it is. Sneeze wrong and it all shatters like Tony Stark’s sobriety.
Iron Man stained glass
This piece of glass shows off Iron Man’s armor in amazing detail. Seeing the light hit the armor just makes Iron man seem… holy somehow. This amazing piece of stained glass art comes from artist R. Evan Daniels of Martian Glass Works, who says that it’s the most complicated work he’s created yet.

It has 334 pieces of glass and took over 100 hours to build. It measures 9.5 square feet, so he will need to build a special crate just to ship it to you. That is, if you have the $4,500(USD) necessary to bring it home. Tony Stark should be able to afford that with no problem.

Vintage Campers Make Happy Campers out of Every Bird

These days, the conventional and traditional birdhouse might not be enough for our avian friends who want their homes to get an upgrade.

Wood-worker Jumahl was happy to oblige and he designed what looks to be a vintage camper for birds.

Bird CampersDon’t they look grand? They’re not just for aesthetics either, because the miniature aluminum door also acts as a deterrent to squirrels. They’re available in a variety of colors, but it looks like bird lovers have snatched up most of them, leaving only the turquoise ones in stock.

The vintage camper bird houses feature a slide out bottom for easy cleaning and they’re constructed from durable and stable marine grade plywood so they’ll last longer in the great outdoors.

They’re priced at $60(USD) and are available from  Jumahl’s Etsy shop.
