Etch-a-Sketch Belt Buckle Lets You Draw Something at Waist Height

The Etch-a-Sketch reminds me of the days when I was a kid and didn’t have the day-to-day worries that I have right now (like how I’m going to find time to write two papers for this class I’m taking when I have to work for the most part of the day, among others.)

So when I saw this Playtime Belt Buckle on Etsy (aka the Etch-a-Sketch Belt Buckle), let me say I did more than just do a double take.

Etch a Sketch Belt Buckle
While I’m not in the market for a new buckle, you might be.

As its name obviously suggests, you can now wear a miniature and fully functional Etch-a-Sketch around your waist. It might be hard to draw stuff while you’re wearing it and it might be weird if someone else were using it to draw stuff while it’s around your waist, but hey, it’s still a pretty cool and funky belt buckle.

The Playtime Belt Buckle is available from iFind Industries’ Etsy shop for $80 (USD). Of course with a hot glue gun and one of these, you could DIY one for a whole lot less money.

CatVengers: A Movie I’d Pay $15 to See

Now before you get all mad at me for saying that I was kind of disappointed in the big noisy mess that was The Avengers, I must mention that I was battling the brain-bending side effects of a new medicine, combined with the headache inducing 3D glasses and an IMAX screen on the day I saw it, so maybe I need to give it another chance when it comes out on Blu-ray. But for now, here’s a film that I’d most definitely go see in the mean time.

catvengers 1

Yes, those are cats – dressed up as Thor, Captain America, Iron Man and The Hulk. Well The Hulk isn’t exactly dressed – hes’ more like a big naked green cat. But that doesn’t make the Cat Avengers any less awesome. I love how Captain (or is it Cattail?) America looks kind of spooked by Thor’s electric hammer. Though I was hoping to see a rat dressed as Loki.

This hilarious digital painting comes from the mind of Alana McCarthy of GeekyPet, and is available as a 10″ x 8″ digital print over on Etsy for about $15(USD). While you’re over there, be sure to check out Alana’s other geeky animal creations, including Batcat, Jabba the Cat and Captain Jean-Mewc Piccat (I made that name up but I thought it fit.)

Mega Man Cutting Board Rocks, Man.

Fans of Mega Man will find this kitchen accessory as hard to resist as taking down Dr. Wily. It’s an awesome cutting board assembled to look just like the classic 8-bit gaming icon.

mega man cutting board 1

Jim Van Winkle of Prairie Oak Studios made this intricate cutting board from a whopping 504 individual blocks of wood. He used walnut, maple, cherry and purpleheart woods to provide the appropriate pixel shading of Mega Man. The 16.5″ x 13.25″ x 1.75″ thick cutting board is food safe, and finished with oils and waxes to protect it from damage, should Fire Man, Ice Man or Stone Man take a shot at you while preparing dinner.

Given its complexity, the Mega Man cutting board isn’t cheap – selling for $230(USD) over on Etsy – but with nearly 2000 individually glued joints, there’s a ton of labor that went into this amazing thing.

Super Mario Spiral Clock: Down the 16-Bit Hole

Every time is Super Mario time with this spiral clock featuring characters and icons from Nintendo’s timeless platformer. You might find it hard to tell the time on this clock because of its pseudo-asymmetrical look. That’s all I see when I look at this thing.

Warp-pipe to Etsy and pay $25 (USD) to get the clock. Seller BackStreet Crafts also sells other geeky clocks and spiral clocks.

Q*bert Pillow Probably Makes Weird Noises When You Sit on It

As retro video games go, Q*bert wins the award for the strangest protagonist and sound effects in my book. If Q*bert was one of your favorite arcade games of the 1980s, then you’ll probably dig these pillows too.

qbert pillow

These pillows are based on the familiar isometric patchwork game board from Q*bert. You’ll notice that Q himself is nowhere to be found, nor are his antagonists – Coily, Ugg and Wrong-Way (yes, I know how to use Wikipedia) though a single square is lit up as if it had already been jumped on. Maybe they already got Q*bert and he fell off the grid, cursing in gibberish all the way.

qbert pillow 2

The 13″ square felt pillows were made by Regan Saunders of Regan’s Brain, and are available in either orange or blue and purple for $55(USD) a piece. So you’ll have to Qollect a whole lot of quarters to pay for a qouple of these for your qouch.

Cthulhu Purse Perfect for Evil Evenings on the Town

I’ve seen lots of Cthulhu-inspired merch over the years, but I can say with 100% certainty that this is the first Cthulhu evening bag that I’ve come across.

cthulhu evening bag

The winged, tentacled demon beast with beady yellow eyes is the perfect fashion accessory for an evening out with friends. It’s funny that its creator, Razorblade Cupcake refers to the plush evening bag as “adorable.” That’s the first time I’ve heard that word used to describe Cthulhu.

So if you’re looking for an accessory to go with your evening wear that you’re sure nobody else will be carrying, head on over to Etsy and grab the Cthulhu evening bag now for $50(USD).

D20 Lamp Will Light up Your Dungeon

This D20 lamp looks like an old world style lamp, but with one major geeky difference. The globe on top is shaped like a D20 die. It’s perfect for those dark, dank corners of your D&D gaming room.
d20 lamp
Stained glass artist Claudia Malmberg made this. She also makes other items that merge stained glass and gaming dice, like clocks, planter, picture frames, and even a D2o bowl for holding all your dice. You can find them all in her Etsy shop Diceydecor.

Sure, you can’t roll a critical hit with it, but it will level up your room. If this lamp is geeky enough for you, it can be yours for $318(USD). It’s pretty neat. And it takes a night light bulb so it should be a nice gentle light to game by.

This Rustic Milk Crate Stereo Goes Hammer [Speakers]

Sleek angular speakers sharp edges and shiny finishes can be nice, but sometimes you need something more rugged and raw, something with a bunch of hammers on it. This one-of-a-kind milk-crate stereo and end table is a good fit for that niche. More »
