Samsung GALAXY S 4 unveiling video out now: watch Broadway madness in full!

This week the Samsung GALAXY S 4 was revealed in New York City at the legendary Radio City Music Hall with a barrage of Broadway stars playing roles to show the life-friendly features of the new device. If you’re all about the Broadway-way of presenting a story, this epic set of oddities will be right up your alley – Fosse style go! Of course, on the other hand, if you’ve been to or watched the majority of the press event keynotes from mobile market presenters over the past couple of years and love the Apple way of doing things (rather simple), you’ll find yourself baffled by the intensity.

From start to finish, this presentation by Samsung is at once a now-classic “Unpacked” presentation of company wares and an utterly fanciful mishmash of dance moves and singing. WIth the Samsung GALAXY S 4 the company has presented a set of four everyday life enhancing pillars that we’ve also outlined for you in four distinct articles. Peruse those beasts in the timeline below while you hear the New York-style wildness here and now.

The Samsung GALAXY S 4 has taken the company to a place where they’ve decided to rely on a winning hardware design while moving forward with software features galore. If you’re familiar with the Samsung Galaxy S III, you know that the nature-inspired hardware has been appearing in Galaxy devices across the board ever since the smartphone launched last year. In the success of that device and subsequent Note devices, Samsung has stayed strong with brand-specific software connections such as Group Share and S-Beam, not to mention ChatON and note-taking apps galore.

That little weird kid was there too – don’t forget him! After you’ve seen the video, have a peek at the timeline below for all the information and hands-on action you could possibly handle from the Samsung GALAXY S 4 – and get pumped up for the full review coming on sooner than later!

Samsung GALAXY S 4 official

Today the next generation of Samsung smartphone technology has been revealed in the Samsung GALAXY S 4. This device works with a lovely 5-inch display with Full HD resolution complete with Super AMOLED technology – the first combination of these two elements in the history of the world. With the GALAXY S 4 we’ve got a smartphone that’s working with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean as well as the newest iteration of the company’s own TouchWiz user interface – and the whole amalgamation works at a size that’s both lighter and thinner than the Galaxy S III, too.

screener

This device has a total of 1080 pixels by 1920 pixels across its 5-inch display, this showing a lovely 441 PPI, one of the highest pixel densities in a smartphone on the market today. Depending on the market this device is released in, it’ll be working with one of two processors. One of these processor possibilities is the Samsung Exynos “Octa” SoC clocked at 1.6GHz per core – there’ll also be a Samsung GALAXY S 4 with a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor clocked at 1.9GHz.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The front-facing camera on this device is 2 megapixels strong while the back-facing camera clocks in at 13 megapixels. Both of these cameras work with a collection of features that are outlined in a set of four user experience pillars that Samsung has set up for this device. In the Enjoyment pillar you’ll find the camera outlined in full.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The Samsung GALAXY S 4 works with a body that’s 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm small and just 130g in weight – again, smaller than the GALAXY S III in thinness and lightness. Samsung says it’s stronger than the Galaxy S III as well. Inside you’ll find a 2,600 mAh battery and one of three different internal storage sizes: 16, 32, or 64GB of space. This device also has a microSD card slot that’s able to work with a 64GB card.

Have a peek at the timeline below to see everything – this timeline will expand as our details posts and hands-on experiences are revealed. Stick around all night long to see more!

Live from the Samsung Galaxy S4 event in New York City!

Today we’re at the big event: Samsung’s own New York unveiling of what we must assume will be none other than the Samsung Galaxy S4! This device has been long awaited – right around one year, if you’ve been waiting since the third-generation device – and is sure to bring a wallop of a game-changer to the smartphone environment. This event starts at 7PM EST sharp – don’t be late – stay tuned to SlashGear for the whole show!

28433602_sHHX9L

What you’ll see below is a collection of tips and suggestions for what could be the device we’re going to see in the next couple of hours. If predictions are right, this device will take on a look that’s not all that different from the Samsung Galaxy S III, complete with the nature-themed aesthetics and Android-packing software finesse. This smartphone is set to become the new leader for the manufacturer as well.

The Samsung Galaxy S III lead the pack for Samsung last year with the introduction of the hardware theme that’s run strong through the Samsung Galaxy Note device ecosystem ever since. This collection of moves includes a lovely set of smooth angles and colors from white to blue, black, and sometimes red or brown. While the future may hold non-Android software for Samsung – the distant future- we can be sure that we’ll be sticking with Google’s own mobile OS this week as well.

Have a peek at the timeline below to see recent chatter from the technology and gadget universe surrounding the Galaxy S4 and what it could contain. Meanwhile have a peek at the main news feed here on SlashGear for more information as it appears throughout the night – we’re ready to rock and roll!

Google I/O 2013 sells out in under an hour

This morning (less than an hour ago, in fact) the developer conference known as Google I/O 2013 sold its tickets out in what may be record time. According to last year’s record, the big G sold out all of its tickets – regular and academic – in less than 15 minutes, while the year before that it was, once again, “less than an hour.” This year we’ll have to wait for the official clock from Google to get their view on the situation, but by our watch, the event sold out in 45 minutes.

params-500x500

What you’re going to see at this year’s Google I/O is a rather interesting mix of items that – believe it or not – might be a surprise for the most part. Google has over the past year established its ownership of Motorola and may be bringing a Motorola-made Nexus smartphone to the arena. They’ve released two Nexus tablets over the past year, and may by the time of the conference be ready to release upgrades to those tablets – hardware-wise.

googleio_2012-580x434

Of course by the time the conference pops up (May 15-17th, mind you), we’ll be seeing a new collection of features for Android, likely just a boost to what’s still code-named Jelly Bean. There is a chance, on the other hand, that the next letter in the Android dessert alphabet will be revealed: Key Lime Pie.

Then there’s Google’s Project Glass. Have a peek at our ever-growing Project Glass tag portal for more Glass information than you can handle, and stick around for more as the developer edition of the hardware (aka the Explorer Edition) appears weeks ahead of Google I/O 2013. As the conference has for several years played host to “free” devices for all attendees, we can’t help but cross our fingers for a Glass of our own (even if wishing is hoping against hope.)

Have a peek at our Google I/O tag portal as well and stick to SlashGear like glue until and through then – we’ll be there with bells on!

Register for Google I/O 2013 Now!

And they’re off! Devs, engineers and the simply curious are, right now, pounding away at their keyboards trying to secure themselves a spot at Google’s big I/O event for 2013. The $900 tickets ($300 for a limited number of “academic” passes) are on sale as of 7AM PT / 10AM ET at the source link. Of course, as usual, these babies probably won’t last more than a few minutes so act fast. Though, if you miss out on your chance to attend, you can always live vicariously through us.

Update: Well, that was quick. All those tickets were snatched up in about 50 minutes. So, if you didn’t secure your spot, you’re sadly out of luck. But don’t worry, we’ll be there and will make sure to tell you all about it. With as little gloating as possible, of course.

Facebook Mobile DevCon 2013 revealed: Android and iOS on tap

The 2013 edition of Facebook‘s efforts to bring the developer universe into the social networking fold has been revealed, complete with several different events taking place around the world. The Facebook Mobile Developer Conference 2013 will be taking place on April the 18th in New York, on the 2nd of May in London, and all the way over in Seoul on the 7th of May. This series of events also goes by the name Facebook Mobile DevCon 2013, if you’d like to be short about it.

devcon

This series of events will be host to many different developer-themed keynote speeches and interactive engagements for mobile developers of many kinds. Companies such as GetGlue, EyeEm, Zeebox, and Fab.com will all be in attendance with opportunities to chat and talks of their own with you, the up-and-coming Facebook app developer, about their experiences on the way up the mountain. Also included will be a list of fabulous hot-points as promised by Facebook:

You’ll hear about:

• how to implement our iOS, Android and JS SDKs to drive installs and engagement
• how to best implement Facebook Login to bring trusted, cross-platform identity to your apps
• best practices for using Open Graph to share rich and engaging stories back to Facebook
• how to use Facebook to power engaging social, mobile games
• design tips and product best practices to increase user satisfaction
• the tools, libraries and techniques we at Facebook use to build our own iOS, Android and Mobile Web apps

Each of the three events is a one-day-only engagement in each of the major cities on the map. Each of these events will be “capped-off” with a fabulous and friendly dinner as well as time to speak with Facebook engineers, product managers, and more to speak on your app – or possible future app for Facebook. These engineers and product managers are being promised to, as Facebook says, “review your app and debug any integration issues” you may have – fun stuff!

Facebook also notes the following:

This is a highly technical event – we’ll be deep in product and code – but if you’re at the sharp end of mobile development, we’d love to meet you there.

Sound like your cup of tea? Have a peek at the Mobile DevCon sign-up page and pick your favorite location. Let us know if you’re going, and if you’re feeling cheeky, feel free to let us know what app you’re bringing along to work on!

OUYA holding official unveiling on March 28th in San Francisco

Ouya

We’re getting closer and closer to the launch of the much-hyped OUYA console. The Android-powered gaming machine will start shipping to backers on March 28th and to celebrate the company is having a little shindig in San Francisco that will serve as a proper “unveiling.” The invite just arrived in our inbox and hopefully this will be our chance to see the final hardware ahead of the June retail launch. The startup doesn’t seem to just be pitching this as a massive media event either. The tagline on the invite reads, “there would be no OUYA without you.” And apparently simply “saying thank you isn’t enough.” Aw, shucks, you’re welcome OUYA.

CeBIT 2013 wrap-up

CeBIT 2013 wrapup

As it’d be poor taste to start singing So Long, Farewell from The Sound of Music, we’ll have to settle for a cheery auf wiedersehen and some fond memories of our week in Hannover. Admittedly, this year’s show was hardly a vintage for consumer tech news (something of a trend this year, non?), but we certainly saw a few things that made the trip worthwhile. Dan’s favorite had to be the eye-tracking AR goggles, while Dana had a soft-spot for those Coby tablets. We’re off to load up on chocolate and rindersteak for the flight home — but you can re-live every nail-biting moment of the CeBIT 2013 if you take a trip past the break.

Facebook News Feed Update: it’s all changing – again

If you’ve heard about the Facebook event this week surrounding changes to the social network’s main feed, you’ve likely felt a little tinge of annoyance. It’s not as if we’ve not seen drastic changes to one of the most visited websites in the history of the world before, but as it’s been made clear several times before: people don’t like change in the tools they use every single day. So what can we expect over the next few months now that the Facebook crew is letting loose a brand new collection of features?

change

Down at Facebook central Mark Zuckerberg himself stood in front of a live audience to speak on what’s worked for the massively popular social environment in the past and what would be coming up in the near future for you, I, and everyone around us – Facebook users all. With a commanding lead in the social networking universe – and such an honor on the head of Facebook for several years running – Zuckerberg is no stranger to speaking as a leader in the industry: that much was clear at this week’s event.

zuckclose

According to Zuckerberg, Facebook stands alone: “There’s no other social service like this at scale.” With Facebook’s News Feed, Zuckerberg made it clear that the company’s aim is “to give everyone in the world the best personalized newspaper available.”

suck2

The redesign for News Feed is simple – it doesn’t change an extreme amount, instead opting to bridge the gap between mobile and desktop web browser editions. Zuckerberg noted that “this design reflects the evolving face of your News Feed.” The three things that are coming to the newest version of Facebook as focuses are:

• Rich Stories
• Choice of Feeds
• Mobile Consistency

You’ll find these changes detailed further here on SlashGear throughout the day – stay tuned for features on each! Meanwhile the short story is this: it’s the same Facebook you’re dealing with here: this change is, basically, just a series of tweaks.

mobile

Below you’ll find a timeline of Facebook announcements that’ve gone live this week – have a peek at know the full truth! Be sure to let us know what you think of the changes that are coming down with Facebook in the near future too – are you all about change, or would you rather stick with what works? Or is that all too simple?
