BitQwik brings Evernote a natural language front-end

Evernote power users rejoice: the folks at BitQwik have made a search program that’ll bring your abilities to seek out the notes you want more powerful than ever. With this application for Windows (or Mac, if you’ve got something like Parallels or VM Fusion), you’ll search for keywords, then enter Search Filters with essentially any language you’d like, and search. You can also build your Evernote query piece by piece, adding specifics one after another. You’ll never lose track of your notes again!

The great thing about this application is its ability to work with natural language – that meaning you can type in basically anything and it’ll know what you’re saying. You can ask it to find “notes that have geese in the title” for something simple or you could ask it to “show me notes with JPG attachments that I added last year and are not tagged with robots or Skype.” BitQwik understands it all.

The gigantic list of possibilities listed by BitQwik shows you that you’re able to work with sources, resources, notebooks, recognition types, encryption, and more. What’s interesting about all of this is the fact that it’s all already built-in to Evernote. The Evernote collection of search operators exists – this environment simply makes it easier than it otherwise would be. You no longer have to recognize the following simply to search for what comes after it:

-intitle:school -intitle:breakfast
created:20120301T000000 created:20120331T000000
sourceApplication:hello

Search for all your notes that do not have the words “school” or “breakfast” in the title, that you created in March of 2012, and were made with Evernote Hello.

All of that is made simple with BitQuik, which you can download right this instant over at BitQuik’s website. Make sure you check this out if you’re a heavy OR a light Evernote user, simply because its fun to see how intense you can get with the language recognition.

Evernote 5 for iOS Review

The developers behind Evernote have brought on their cleanest-ever interface for the 5.0 version of the app here in iOS, making it perfect for your brand new iPhone 5, iPad 4th gen, or iPad mini. It’s not limited to those machines, of course, with anyone working with iOS 5.0 (or higher) able to take advantage of the new completely redesigned note-taking beast, complete with classic green accents. It’s the ease in use you’ll notice first here with Evernote 5.0 for iOS, with each of your main sections in a folder and quick-hit buttons for a new note, in-hand scanning, and snapshots too.

Evernote 5.0 brings on a user interface that will make you want to use it more often – a simple concept, to be sure, but not so simple to capture in the real world. The designers behind Evernote 5 have taken it upon themselves to concentrate not so much on the features and abilities of the app, but the usability primarily. Once the usability was made perfect – or perfect as they wanted it to get – they went back and added some features anyway, almost as a bit of a bonus.

Your home screen shows quick access to notes, notebooks, tags, places, and Premium features – now no longer relegated to a web browser. You’ve got your home screen quick buttons up top (or to the side, depending on which device you’re using), and you’ve got a new showcase style inside each section that shows off notes as cards – great for quick previews. Your shared notebook list can be seen easily identifiable (if you’re Premium, that is), with the ones shared with you waiting to be peeked at.

Once you’re gotten past the excellence of not just the interface at the front but the note-taking swiftness as well, you’ll see your tags and places as well. Your places are mapped out using TomTom and Open Street Maps data – and they work fantastically quick. From here, as before, you’re able to see where each of your notes were taken and have quick access to the lot of them.

The iPad version of Evernote 5 has a few unique features that utilize the extra screen real estate you’ve got, with added notebook stack support in Notebooks view and a list of recently viewed, edited, and created notes on your homescreen. Of course the whole app has bug fixes for bugs we didn’t even know existed in the first place and is rather speedy on the whole. Have a peek at this free app right now in the iTunes App Store and also consider upgrading to Premium for extra cloud storage space and some lovely bonus features.

Also have a peek at the timeline below to see many of the other add-ons Evernote has made clear over the past few weeks. This ecosystem is expanding at a great rate!

Evernote 5 now available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

It was just a few days ago that Evernote proudly teased us by saying it’s fifth major release on Cupertino’s mobile platform would be “coming soon,” but the good news is the revamped note-taking application didn’t take too long to officially arrive on iOS. Starting today, Evernote 5 will be available for folks using an iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, bringing with it a completely redesigned experience, a more accessible home screen (with quick access to notes, notebooks and more), as well as new features tailored specifically for Apple’s slate and Premium users. Evernote 5 is up for download now, so those of you looking to try the new app should give the App Store link below a quick tap or download it straight from your device.

Evernote 5 now available on iOS

Just a few days after announcing the beta version of Evernote 5 for Mac, the company is now telling us that Evernote 5 is now available for all iOS users. Evernote 5 for the iPhone, the iPad, and iPod touch has been redesigned and the major functions are now accessible with a tap. The home screen is now divided into two sections – one section for Quick Notes and the other for Views. The company says that the objective was to let a person create a new note or browse to an existing one with equal speed. The Quick Note buttons at the top of the app lets users create a new text note, start a snapshot or digitize physical documents with Page Camera.

Below the Quick Note buttons are the list of views that are designed to help users access their notes easily in the way that works best for them. Evernote 5 for the iPad has been added with a new feature called Recent Notes. It’s basically a horizontal scrolling list that shows the last several notes being viewed, edited and created on the tablet. On top of all the aforementioned features, Evernote 5 for iOS is also faster and more responsive. You can get the app here. There’s still no sign of Evernote 5 for Mac, although the company says that it’s coming really soon.

Evernote 5.0 for iOS: Slicker UI, faster note-taking

Evernote for iOS has been updated, with version 5.0 bringing a new interface for iPhone and iPad, as well as faster note creation and easier navigation through existing notes in the tablet build. The free organization app debuts a refreshed note list, with each note now shown as a card and, on the iPad, support for stacked notebooks and a multi-feature view showing all recently-accessed, edited, and created notes in one simple layout.

Creating new notes is streamlined, too, with a quick-note button on the homescreen of the app. Since iOS doesn’t support desktop widgets, the iOS version of Evernote doesn’t get the widget that Android users enjoy; however, Evernote has brought the buttons for new notes/notebooks to more prominent positions, to cut down on unnecessary taps.

Geotagged notes can now be viewed on a zoomable map, and there’s a new shared  notebook list that shows all of your own shared notes, and those shared to you by others. If you’re an Evernote Premium subscriber, you can see your account status and other details from within v.5 of the app, rather than having to access them via the full site.

As always, there’s support for photo and audio notes, together with OCR-enabled search that can pick out text and handwriting in images. You can also use Evernote with third-party products, such as the Livescribe Sky WiFi smartpen we reviewed recently, or special Moleskine notebooks.

You can download Evernote for iOS from the App Store [iTunes link]; Evernote accounts are free, or you can pay if you want to transfer more data into your account.

Evernote teams with mysms for text messaging storage

If you ever wondered what it’d be like to keep every single bit of communication you had with other people on the web to yourself in an archive, today is your lucky day – so says Evernote. In a team-up move with the folks at mysms, Evernote has become able to store text message conversations inside its archive. With a simple download and activation of mysms you’ll have a connection to Evernote with just a couple of taps.

It’s quite easy to do and backs up your whole text messaging library as it happens in a set of new notes. Each time a conversation continues, that original note is updated. Evernote has made this whole process simple for the folks at mysms to integrate as Evernote’s APIs are both completely open and documented – that means anyone could do this sort of thing, really, but Evernote has officially “given the blessing” in this case.

With mysms you’re able to work with Android phones and tablets, Windows Phones, iPhone, and your desktop as well as inside any sort of web browser. This integration works on certain devices better than others, but iPhone, Android, and Windows Phone are able to save to Evernote with ease.

This app is now part of the Evernote Trunk, a site that brings you the best and brightest in apps connected directly with Evernote in many fun and helpful ways. You’ll also see such gems as Scalar, Found, Cotton Notes, QEver, and Cloud Magic, just to name a few. Have a peek at the timeline below to see a selection of other recent Evernote updates and the apps that aim to bring your Evernote experience to the next level!

Evernote 5 for iOS coming soon: new UI, revised places view, same inability to forget (video)

Evernote 5 for iOS coming soon, new UI, cleaner places view, same inability to forget video

Evernote? More like ever tease. Just this week it was tempting badly organized Mac owners with a beta release of Evernote 5, now the team is back to dangle its 5th version for iOS in front of our noses. The theme here is speed, with the new design putting everything just two taps away — along with quick note buttons right on the home screen. The places view also gets a lick of paint, to help you better pin down those moments of inspiration (or panicked remembering). Other tweaks include a new “recent notes” bar, and — generously — easier access to premium features. Ironically, the creators forgot to give us a release date, leaving us only with “coming very soon” for reassurance. While you wait, however, why not watch the preview video after the break for solace.

Evernote 5 for Mac beta gets launched, brings a ton of new features

Mac users who love using Evernote will be happy to hear that Evernote 5 is here. Although it’s currently in beta for now, the Evernote team is obviously excited and decided to announce it anyway. Last week, Evernote Maketing Head, Andrew Sinkov, teased the new Evernote 5 for Mac, which is a completely redesigned version of the popular note-taking app. Evernote 5 for Mac is expected to be faster, better, smarter, and more accessible for its users.

The first thing that users will immediately notice is its improved interface and new left panel that makes things more accessible  There’s also a new top section called shortcuts for the notebooks that you access frequently. For many Evernote users, this is a dream come true. At the bottom of the shortcuts section is a recent notes section for your recently accessed stuff. Users will also love the redesigned card view on the notes section and yes, all the notes are now compiled in a single view. More after the jump. (more…)

Evernote 5 for Mac beta is now available, offers 100+ new features

A few days ago, Evernote announced the upcoming beta release for Evernote 5 for Mac. This feature brings with it over 100 new features, as well as an updated user interface. Now the application is available for download, with Evernote cautioning users to remember that it is still in beta and might be buggy at times.

Says the announcement, “BETA software is not final, which means that using it comes with some risks. These can range from corruption of your notes to data loss. If you’re not comfortable using beta software, we recommend waiting a bit for the general update to go live.” If you’re willing to take the plunge, however, you’ll find a variety of new features.

New features include an improved Notes List, which offers a single list containing both personal and joined notebooks. There’s a Snippets view for seeing a note’s notebook, as well as its shared status. Also added is a Cards view for browsing notes in the form of nifty little cards. Tossed in, among the myriad of other features, are a handful of shortcuts and changes to increase efficiency.

To get the new Evernote 5 for Mac beta, launch the application, then select “Software Update” from Preferences. In the window that opens, check “Update to beta versions when available.” Follow this up by clicking “Check for Updates Now” in the Evernote menu, then sit back and let the magic happen. Evernote lists a few troubleshooting tips as well, so if you experience problems, hit the link below to check them out.

Evernote 5 for Mac beta is here to keep you on the bleeding edge of hyperorganization

Evernote 5 for Mac is finally here … sort of. At least the beta is here, but that’s totally out now. Of course, you may not wanna jump into the madness of a beta — Evernote’s warning users that they could suffer data corruption, data loss, or other such calamities. Should that be the case, you’ll only have to wait “a bit” for the public release of the final software. Also, if you snagged Evernote via Apple’s App Store, your local notebooks may be endangered by the beta; “if you install the beta, you will lose all of your local notebooks,” Evernote says. Should you be bold enough to participate, instructions are right here.

What does Evernote’s latest release contain, pray tell? Smarter search with TypeAhead, for one, not to mention a more graphics-heavy note interface. The fine folks at Evernote have a full video rundown of new features in Evernote 5, which we’ve dropped below.
