Sprint starts rolling out Ice Cream Sandwich update to HTC EVO 3D

It’s official: we can finally add Sprint’s three-dimensional EVO to that endeavoring list of slabs running Ice Cream Sandwich. According to multiple tipsters, and promptly confirmed by The Now Network’s legitimate support page, Google’s ICS assortment is now being delivered OTA — a wee bit earlier than expected, no less — to the now-discontinued HTC EVO 3D. As we could imagine, the tasty software update brings previously known features to the 4.3-inch device, including folders, improved browser, resizable widgets and the crowd-pleasing Face Unlock method. Needless to say, Sprint certainly took its sweet time to dish out the long-awaited 4.0 nuggets — but better late than never, right?

HTC EVO 3D and EVO Design 4G getting Ice Cream Sandwich by early August

HTC EVO 3DHTC EVO 3D and EVO Design 4G owners who haven’t bothered with custom ROMs should be glad to know that they will be getting the second latest version of Android very soon. According to an official announcement from Sprint, the two Android phones will be receiving Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich sometime in early August – which hopefully translates to less than a month away. While it’s not Jelly Bean, I guess it’s better than being stuck on Gingerbread.

The update to Ice Cream Sandwich will introduce a bunch of new features for the phone including a brand new UI, Face Unlock, a redesigned camera app, Google Chrome, an improved keyboard, an updated Gmail app, and more. Let’s hope Sprint and HTC can deliver the goods next month. Stay tuend for more details.

HTC EVO 3D receives Android 4.0 update in EMEA, Sprint’s update imminent?

Heads up HTC EVO 3D users, it looks like the Android 4.0 update for your phone has started to roll out. Unfortunately it appears that this rollout is only targeted at the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) regions, so if you’re living outside those regions, you’re probably out of luck at least for now. Oddly enough Sprint’s version of the update is still missing, despite being promised for a June release last time we checked. Perhaps the EMEA could get it first before Sprint does – after all there are a couple of days left before the month of June is over, so Sprint still has time to make good on the June release. That being said, if you can’t wait for the official release (if and when it ever heads stateside), there are alternatives such as this leaked Android 4.0 ROM, although it does require that the user have some knowledge when it comes to rooting and flashing their devices. Either that or you guys can wait patiently for the update, which we will be sure to inform you when it does arrive!
