Samsung released evolution kit in Korea for the first time in the world, which upgrades 2012 year type smart TVs to the latest version once attached into the back of a Samsung Smart TV. This pocket sized kit (SEK-1000) keeps the hardware enhancements, such as CPU, memory and GPU up to the level of the latest Smart.
Just when you thought that things could not get any better with the Smart TV in your living room, along comes Samsung Electronics with the announcement of its 2013 Evolution Kit that has been made available in its home country, South Korea. The Evolution Kit will allow Samsung Smart TVs purchased last year to be able to enjoy the latest Smart TV features and technologies, which is basically an upgrade to bring it up to par with 2013 technology, all without having to purchase a spanking new TV.
Upon installation of the Evolution Kit, you will be able to enjoy simplified content discovery, more natural ways to control the TV and faster speeds thanks to Samsung’s 2013 Smart TV features such as Smart Hub, S Recommendation with Voice Interaction, enhanced Smart Interaction and a new quad-core processor. This is a novel idea, but I believe that most of the time, improvements that end users will see would most probably remain on the software and firmware side of things rather than the hardware. What do you think of the Samsung Evolution Kit – will other manufacturers follow in Samsung’s footsteps and do the same thing as well? Do bear in mind that the Samsung Evolution Kit will play nice with certain 2012 Samsung Smart models only, including the ES7000 and ES8000.

At CES 2013, Samsung announced its Evolution Kit that would upgrade your 2012 Smart TV into a 2013 Smart TV as it’ll have an improved CPU, memory and GPU which allows you to experience faster speeds in a number of ways. The announcement of the Evolution Kit came without a release date or a price, both of which were confirmed today at a media event in New York City.
The Samsung Evolution Kit will be launched in May and will retail for $299.99, which is a bit pricey, but considering it’ll save you the trouble of spending over $1000 to upgrade your 2012 Samsung Smart TV, then we can see how it might be priced just right as it can add additional years to your current HDTV.
The Evolution Kit not only allows 2012 Smart TVs to receive an updated 2013 Smart Hub, but it will also come with a Samsung Smart Touch remote which also allows you to interact with your Smart TV in a number of ways such as voice and gesture controls. Samsung’s Smart Remote alone would probably cost over $100, so that $299.99 price point for the Evolution Kit is starting to look a little bit better.
