Guy Finds Action Comics #1 in the Wall of His House, Family Squabble Ruins It

David Gonzalez is a construction worker and home remodeler. He’s also one lucky guy. He was fixing up his newest home and found an issue of the extremely rare and valuable Action Comics #1 inside a wall. This was Superman’s first appearance, so it is worth big money.

He bought the house for just $10,100, so he’s going to make a pretty decent profit on the whole deal thanks to this comic, once it sells at auction. However, there is a twist to this tale. When he went to show the comic to his aunt, she grabbed it and they fought over it briefly, the comic was torn on the back page.

That tear changed the quality rating from a 3.0 to a 1.5. That took the value down an estimated $75,000(USD). Still, it is currently listed at $137,000(USD). So he’s still doing pretty good. Great find.

Grid 2 BAC Mono Edition Comes with a Car: Best Pre-order Bundle Ever

One of the better tactics that publishers use to entice gamers to pre-order is by creating special bundles that include real goodies. The notable ones include the PIP-Boy 3000 clock from a Fallout 3 bundle and the loot chest from a Borderlands 2 bundle. But no bundle can compare with the Grid 2 BAC Mono Edition. It comes with an actual car.

grid 2 bac mono ps3 racing game

And not just any car, mind you. The BAC Mono is a street-legal race car. It has a 2.3L 280hp engine and a carbon fiber body, for starters, allowing it to go from 0 to 60mph in just 2.8s, with a top speed of 170mph. The popular British car show Top Gear named it one of their top picks in 2011. It should come as no surprise then that the Guiness World Records hails the bundle as the “Most Expensive Video Game Commercially Available – Special Edition.”

And yet for some reason the car isn’t on the game’s cover. The bundle is a one-time offer and costs £125,000 (~$190,000 USD). In case you were wondering, the car alone costs £96,495 (~$146,000 USD). That means the game on its own will retail for $44,000. Just kidding. The deep-pocketed gearhead who claims the Grid 2 BAC Mono Edition also gets a PS3, a racing outfit (a helmet, a suit and a pair of gloves) and a day at the BAC Mono factory. The buyer will meet with BAC personnel to tour the factory and personalize his new ride.

Ask your assistant’s assistant’s secretary’s butler’s falcon breeder’s son’s geeky friend to contact BAC at sales@bac-mono.com to order the bundle. But just for kicks, check out UK store GAME’s pre-order page for the game as well. The six-figure tag is just sitting there as if it were a pre-order for any other game. Deadpan humor at its finest. Seriously go to the page and get a screenshot of it.

Elecom Scented Touchscreen Cleaners: Ain’t Nobody as Nerdy, My Screen So Fresh So Clean

I’m okay with using a microfiber cloth to clean the display on my gadgets and my computer. But if your nose is sensitive enough that it can smell the oil, dirt and whatever substance is left on your screen, watch out for Elecom’s new touchscreen cleaners. Aside from containing germ-killing ethanol and dirt-scrubbing surfactant, they also have various fragrances.

elecom spray and tissue touchscreen cleaners

The scented cleaners are sold in either small spray-on bottles or equally tiny wet microfiber cloths. But even if you get the spray-on cleaner, Elecom recommends that you spray them on a piece of clean cloth first then apply the cloth to your gadget’s screen instead of spraying the cleaner on your screen directly. Probably because some of the liquid might find its way inside your gadget.

Elecom will make the cleaners available in Japan starting this month. The tissue will sell for ¥640 (~$6  USD) for a pack of 5 tissues while a 7ml bottle of the liquid cleaner will go for ¥1,323 (~$13). If that sounds too expensive to you, there are lots of guides online about mixing your own screen cleaning solution. Maybe you can add a fragrance to those recipes. Or the scent of a new computer. Or booger bits. Whatever floats your boat.

Seashell iPhone Passive Speakers: Shellphone

Thanks to the pathetic speakers on iOS devices, we’ve seen many types of passive speakers come about. A sub-type of these passive speakers are ones that repurpose other items. We’ve seen one made from an old gramophone horn, a trumpet and even a piece of bamboo. WAAM Industries’ Shellphone speaker is a modified seashell.

I really want to hear the sound that’s been amplified through a Shellphone.

Does it also sound like it’s coming from far away? Does it sound like the ocean? Is it as soothing and calming as the sound that you hear when you put a shell up to your ear, the air caressing its cool and smooth walls? Most importantly, does $75 (USD) sound like a fair price to you? Because that’s how much WAAM Industries is asking for one.

Bang & Olufsen Unveil “Entry Level” BeoLab 14 Surround Sound System

When it comes to high-end audio products, Bang & Olufsen make some of the most elegant and expensive devices on the market. Saying “entry-level” for these guys sort of like saying entry-level Ferrari, in that you know just because it’s their cheapest product, it’s still going to be very expensive. Bang & Olufsen have announced a new home theater system called the BeoLab 14.

bang olufsen beolab 14 speakers

The company says that this speaker system uses its high-quality acoustic engineering and components, and while it’s designed specifically to complement Bang & Olufsen televisions, it will work with other TVs as well. The satellite speakers have a distinctive flat, round design, while the subwoofer looks like some sort of fancy vase.

Each of the satellite speakers offers 140 W of power, and the subwoofer has 280 W of dedicated power and an eight-inch downward facing driver. The system can be connected to B&O televisions with a built-in surround sound decoder, or you’ll need to have a receiver that can do the decoding if you don’t have a B&O TV.

You can also select from a variety of colors for the satellite grille cloths, to complement your specific room decor.

Buyers can opt for a 4.1 solution at a price of $3995(USD) or a full 5.1 solution at $4395. The BeoLab 14 will be available in B&O stores around the world this June.

Switchboard Mixes Multiple Internet Connections: With Your Powers Combined, I Am Faster Bandwidth!

I’ve often wished that I could combine the speed of my cable Internet connection with my phone’s data connection to form one supercharged slightly above average connection. If you’ve been wishing for the same thing my wish buddy, take a look at Switchboard. It’s a subscription-based cloud service that will let you tap into multiple Internet connections at once.

connectify switchboard cloud service

The Switchboard service is currently being developed by a company called Connectify. The company claims that its servers can spread the packets that you upload or download across multiple Internet connections. All you have to do is link your computer to these connections; the Switchboard software and Connectify’s servers will do the rest.

Switchboard is actually similar to one of Connectify’s other apps called Dispatch. Dispatch can also send data to and from your computer through multiple Internet connections. The upside to Dispatch is that it doesn’t need to pass through a server. That means you only pay once – just for the client software. But Connectify says that Dispatch is only good for applications or processes that use multiple sockets at once, such as web browsing or peer-to-peer connections. Programs that use single sockets like Netflix and Hulu will gain nothing from Dispatch. Also Dispatch doesn’t have a Mac client, whereas Switchboard will have one.

Pledge at least $60 (USD) on Kickstarter to be one of the first to try out Switchboard. But with great speed comes great expense. Not only is Switchboard a subscription service, its plans also have data caps. The limits range from 10GB to 2TB per month depending on your plan. I’m not saying that’s unreasonable, but now I have another wish: I wish that future computers had this functionality baked in.

Mercedes S-Class Is the First Car without any Incandescent Light Bulbs

These days, it’s not uncommon for automotive manufacturers to use LEDs to replace light bulbs for some of the lights on vehicles. This is particularly common with taillights. However, until now, all of the vehicles out there still use incandescent light bulbs for some needs, particularly in the headlights and interior. Mercedes-Benz has announced that its new S-Class is the first car to use not one single traditional light bulb.

sclass

Everything from the tail lights to the headlights and every light on the interior of the high-end S-Class will use LEDs. Each headlight has 56 individual LEDs, each taillight uses 25 LEDs, and there are about 300 LEDs on the interior of the vehicle.

Another very impressive bit of tech is a suspension system that is able to scan the road ahead and prepare for any coming road imperfections for a smoother ride. The car also has a pair of 12.3-inch displays on the dash giving the vehicle one of the largest dashboard video displays of any car on the road. The left video screen is for vehicle instruments and the right is for the infotainment system.

One detail Mercedes didn’t offer was exactly how much the S-Class will cost. Considering that the vehicle is aiming at people who previously purchased incredibly expensive Maybach luxury cars, the new S-Class will undoubtedly be exceptionally expensive.

Bang & Olufsen intros Beolab 14 surround speakers, considered ‘entry-level’ at $3,995

Bang & Olufsen intros Beolab 14 surround speakers, considered 'entry-level' at $3,995

Bang & Olufsen has been known to occasionally lower the price floor on its line of A/V gear. Continuing in that direction, the company just unveiled its Beolab 14 surround sound speakers, an entry-level offering starting at $3,995 for a 4.1 setup. The rig centers around a petite cylindrical tower that houses a 280-watt amp for its eight-inch down-firing bass driver and connections for up to five individually powered (140 watts) and equalized 2.5-inch satellite speakers. The circular drivers can be wall-mounted or set on stands, and those aluminum enclosures act as heat sinks (in addition to looking dapper). While B&0 anticipates that the soundbars on its existing TVs will act as a center channel, a 5.1 setup will be available for $4,395 if you need an independent middle speaker instead. The Beolab 14 will come in black or white when it launches in June and additional grille clothes will be an extra $99 per set, should you want to change the colors. You can find more details in the press release after the break while you start saving up.

Lamborghini Egoista Concept: Time to Mortgage the Mansion(s)

Continuing its long tradition of creating vehicles that mere mortals can’t even dream of affording, Lamborghini has unveiled the Egoista concept, shown off at a private birthday party to celebrate Lambo’s 50th birthday. The Egoista concept has room for a single wealthy occupant and is powered by a 5.2-liter V10 engine with 600 horsepower. Vroooom!

The styling looks pretty awesome, but on the other hand some are comparing the front end to an N64 controller, even though it is said to be inspired by an Apache helicopter.

Its driver-centric cockpit is made completely of carbon fiber and aluminum, keeping the driver safe and secure – and the vehicle’s weight down. Think of a jet aircraft integrated into a road vehicle.

That’s all you really need to know. You couldn’t afford it anyway. It’s just the stuff of dreams. So daydream about this beautiful beast and then get back to work, so you can spend the next hundred years saving up for it.

Steampunk Nintendo Controller Coffee Table: NESSSS

Here’s a coffee table that would go well with the steampunk NES. It was made by Charles Lushear of Bohemian Workbench using found items. I wouldn’t disagree if you think it’s more junkyard than steampunk, but either way it’s an impressive piece.

The cedar wood tabletop used to be part of a fence, the A and B buttons are antique clock movements and the Start and Select buttons are vintage rifle magazines. But the most intriguing part is the directional pad.

Apparently that piece of metal is a Katanga cross or a handa, a copper cross that was used as a form of currency in the Democratic Republic of Congo from the 19th to the 20th century. Katanga Katanga cross, y’all.

Lushear is selling it on his Etsy shop for $2,600 (USD). That’s a lot of Katanga crosses.
