Street Fighter Chess Set: Ryu’s Fist to Sagat’s Face, Check

Although most of us never go past mashing buttons in fighting games, the truth is the genre is all about tactics and strategy, reading your opponent and coming up with the right move at the right time. Or so I’ve heard. I’m still button-mashing. The point is Street Fighter and chess are not that different. Or maybe they are. I don’t know. Admitting I suck confuses me.

As part of its cashing-in celebration of the fabled fighting game’s 25th anniversary, Capcom is offering a limited edition chess set featuring the game’s characters as the pieces. The busts are made from silver and pewter colored resin, while the board is made of smoked and sandblasted glass. The game board also doubles as the storage for the pieces.

Ryu and M. Bison are the kings, Chun-Li and Juri are the queens, Ken, Guile, Balrog and Vega are bishops, E. Honda, Blanka, Rolento & Akuma are the knights, Dhalsim, Zangief, Sagat and Seth are the rooks, and Ryu’s fist and the Shadaloo winged skull are the pawns. I get that Capcom was going for the timeless and classy look here, but I wish they’d also release a variant where the pieces are appropriately colored.

Capcom sold 10 of these at the San Diego Comic Con for $400 (USD), but don’t worry, they have 4,990 more. You can pre-order the Street Fighter chess set at the Capcom store for $300.

Rare Star Wars Poster Looks Stupid, Worth Thousands

There are a lot of rare Star Wars collectibles that are worth money, but usually they are toys and costumes and the like. Some obscure items like this 1978 promotional poster you see here are also worth a lot for some reason. The poster shows C-3PO and R2-D2 carrying musical instruments. It basically looks ridiculous, but despite that, it’s expected to sell for between $5,000 and $8,000 at auction.

star wars concertThe poster was created to promote The Star Wars Symphonic Suite by composer John Williams. So why is it worth so much? Well, it’s rare to begin with and it is also signed by George Lucas. Plus it was designed by John Alvin, who made some of the best movie posters ever made like Blade Runner, E.T., and Gremlins for example.

If you have the money and like the poster, now is your chance to own it. Head on over to Paul Fraser Collectibles for more information on the auction.

Portal 2 Jumpsuit Won’t Look Stupid On You. Okay it Probably Will.

Although the Portal gun is quite hard to replicate, it’s balanced out by the fact that Chell’s costume is an ordinary jumpsuit. Thanks to NECA, now you don’t even need to make your own jumpsuit. Scientists have already noted that the jumpsuit will look stupid on you, but they should also note that you don’t care.

portal 2 neca jumpsuit

NECA released the jumpsuit along with a variety of Portal 2 gear, which included a pair of socks that look like Chell’s long-fall boots, Atlas’ Portal gun and a stand for the gun. That’s how you know you have a hot product, when you can sell the stand separately. Be grateful there’s no official Portal 2 hanger for the jumpsuit.

I spotted the jumpsuit at ThinkGeek, but the store is already out of stock and won’t have more until October. Fortunately Big Bad Toy Store still has some as of this writing and for the same price of $100 (USD). You’ll also have to pre-order it from BBTS but at least you’ll get the jumpsuit by August.

Focal Locus Desk & Chair Set Won’t Allow You to Sit or Stand, But I Still Want One

I’ve seen all kinds of office chairs and desks, but I’m pretty sure the Locus series by Focal is the first one that I’ve encountered that encourages people to be in a position halfway between standing up and sitting down. It seems silly at first, but I can actually see myself being comfortable on it. Too bad I can also see myself not being able to afford it.

focal locus desk chair

The Locus desk is made of aluminum, hardwood laminate and polymer. The surface can be inclined up to 18º and the legs can be raised and lowered. But the quirk of the Locus lies in the seat, which as you can see is a bit like a bar stool, except it has a long base that tilts up. The seat itself is not fixed to the base and can be moved up to 10º side to side. The idea is that your butt to be barely on the cushion and your legs stretched out with your feet leaning on the tip of the base.

Aside from the lack of back support, the biggest downside to the Locus line is the price tag. Focal is selling the seat for $500 (USD) and the desk for $950. These are already discounted introductory prices; the regular price will be $650 for the seat and $1150 for the desk. If you’re ready to stand down and sit up, head to Focal’s website to pre-order.

Shoe Pillow Lets You Wear Shoes Under Your Head

I love shoes. Shoes with heels, shoes without heels, shoes with straps, shoes without straps, and so on and so forth. But despite my immense love for footwear, I can spare little to no love for this $1,200 shoe-inspired throw pillow.

Shoe Throw PillowThe pillow presents a patchwork design of various men’s shoes in different styles and colors. Each of these throw pillows are sown by hand with a suede backing and buffed to a shiny finish with loads of was and polish.

It might be of more value to view “The Little Shoes” throw pillow as a work of art than a usable and comfortable throw pillow, since each one is signed by the artist and comes wrapped in a vintage silk scarf.

It’s also more of art than a practical choice for a throw pillow, given its $1,200 price tag. In the event that you want one for yourself, you can get it online at Yellow Velvet. Or you could choose to wear your shoes on your feet.
