ZAGGsparq 1220, 3100, and 6000 portable batteries debut

ZAGG has been producing some interesting accessories for tablets and smartphones for a while now. The company is perhaps best known for its line of super-strong protective films for the screens of smartphones and tablets. The company also has a line of external batteries called the ZAGGsparq.

ZAGG has unveiled three new lithium polymer external batteries to help keep your gadgets charged. The new batteries include the ZAGGsparq 1220, 3100, and 6000. The 3100 and 6000 units both feature Hypercharge Technology promising to allow your gadgets charge up to four times faster than using a standard USB charger.

All the batteries have a standard USB port and have built-in prongs for plugging the battery directly into the wall. Having integrated prongs means that you don’t need a USB port to charge the external battery, and you don’t have to keep up with an external power adapter. The difference between the three batteries comes in capacity.

The 1220 has a 1200 mAh 1A power source and sells for $39.99. The 3100 has an internal battery with 3100 mAh of juice and can charge a smartphone fully two times and sells for $69.99. The 6000 has 6000 mAh of power, two USB ports, and sells for $99.99.

Sony announces new slim external batteries for mobile devices

When we’re on the go, we really can’t afford to carry around bulky equipment all the time; our pockets and bags can only hold so much. Sony agrees, which is why they’ve announced a new line of external batteries that are small and super thin. They’re the size of a regular smartphone and come in capacities from 3500 mAh to 7000 mAh.

The external batteries use Sony’s thin “laminate” technology, which involves laminating battery components together in order to cut down on weight and materials. It also results in super-thin batteries. The company’s 7000 mAh model will be just a half-inch thick, and will measure 2.8-inches by 5.1-inches, making it a perfect device to easily slip in and out of a pocket.

Sony is marketing these new external batteries as being roughly the same size as smartphones and tablets, making the two easier to store together. They’ll even have a smaller model that will hold 3500 mAh, as well as small cylinder-shaped 2000 mAh batteries. We’re not sure exactly what size the cylinder batteries will be, but you can be sure that they’ll be pretty small.

If you’re wondering how much juice these batteries will supply to your mobile devices, the iPhone 5 is said to have a 1440 mAh battery and Samsung’s Galaxy S3 has a 2100 mAh battery, so expect to get at least a full charge and then some out of the cheapest external battery models. Sony says the 3500 mAh version can be reused around 500 times and can charge a typical smartphone in about 130 minutes. The batteries can be recharged in 8 hours by USB and 4 hours by a wall outlet.

These external batteries will be available in Japan first starting October 13, with more models to arrive on November 14. Prices will range from 2,300 yen ($30) to 7,000 yen ($90) depending on the capacity. Sony will launch the batteries globally, but launch dates and prices have yet to be determined.

Everpurse iPhone Charger Juices Your Phone in The Comfort of Your Purse

Pretty much anyone who has an iPhone knows that it uses up quite a bit of power. If I’m away from home for most of the day, I absolutely need a juice up. These days, I’ve got a cheap iPhone battery case that does the trick. Everpurse is a more stylish option, with more power but it’s still an external battery.

Everpurse is a small case that has a special pocket into which your iPhone automatically “slides” and hooks itself up to a dock connector. There’s a patent involved, so I’m guessing that this is a pretty unique docking process. Once you’ve done this, your phone starts juicing up. Apparently the battery is enough to charge your iPhone from 0% to 100% twice in one day, so probably something like 3,000 to 5,000 mAh.

Once you get home, you just have to place your Everpurse onto a charging mat. The clutch itself will charge inductively, but it won’t charge your iPhone inductively. It was launched as a Kickstarter campaign and you’ll have to pledge $129 (USD) to get yours. At the time of writing, the project had amassed $127,000, blowing past its $100,000 goal with 25 days left, so it will definitely be produced.

Yellow Jacket iPhone Case Doubles as Stun Gun

Do you live somewhere dangerous? Then this case might solve all of your problems, because as the smartphone mantra goes, “there’s an app for that“. Though in this particular case, it’s not an app but a case. Yep, the Yellow Jacket slides smartly over your iPhone and turns it into a stun gun, to effectively diffuse dangerous situations.

The Yellow Jacket was created by Louisiana resident Seth Froom. It’s supposed to deliver a shock and at the same time, double as an external battery for your iPhone.

If it tickles your fancy, you can head over to the Indiegogo crowdfunding site. A $100 pledge will get you your Yellow Jacket – assuming the project gets funded. Just keep in mind that stun guns aren’t legal in all states and countries, so check with your local laws before ordering one.
