Holy Crap, Is This Mark Zuckerberg’s Embarrassing Childhood Angelfire Website?

The word on the interwebs today is that this 1999 Angelfire page belongs to one Mark Zuckerberg. Yes, that Mark Zuckerberg, which means this could be the very first website that the hoody that made Facebook ever created. If true, it’s a time machine into the 15-year-old brain of the most powerful man on the Internet. More »

Facebook Home UI pictured in more leaked images

We’ve already seen leaked images of the HTC First smartphone purported to be launching at tomorrow’s Facebook event, as well as what appears to be its APK, and we now have our best look yet at the Facebook-infused UI you can expect on the device. As you can see above in the image from @evleaks (and others at the source link below), the apparent Facebook Home hub doesn’t exactly scream Facebook, although there unsurprisingly appears to be deep Facebook integration throughout. There are only a handful of images though, so there’s still a fair bit that remains unknown. We’d say to check back tomorrow for more, but at the rate these leaks have been turning up we may well get yet another look at what’s in store before then.

We're liveblogging Facebook's Android event tomorrow at 1PM ET!

The term “Facebook Phone” has been used in association with specific devices for over four years, and each time it’s involved phones with tighter integration of the social media network rather than an Facebook-branded device. Tomorrow we’ll be hearing about yet another one of these handsets, though rumor has it that the gadget in question — which may or may not be called the HTC First — will at least fit the description better than ever before, offering a home screen launcher and other Android services dedicated to the Facebook cause. We’re just as curious as you as to what exactly will be shown off in Menlo Park 24 hours from now, and we’ll be there to liveblog the event so you can discover the goods right along with us! Join us at 1PM ET.

Facebook Home Images Leaked Again

Facebook Home Images Leaked AgainIt definitely is an open secret by now that Facebook has plans to roll out a new smartphone, which many has dubbed it to be the “real” Facebook phone, known as the HTC First, in addition to introducing a rich, skinned version of its Android app at tomorrow’s press event. Well, we have seen Facebook Home leaked before, and here we are faced with another decent image that might just give out some pointers unwittingly. A picture, after all, speaks a thousand words, so it is a rather lengthy story that our eyes have met up with here.

It seems that Facebook Home will take the route of minimal aesthetics, while placing plenty of emphasis on full-screen photography. There do seem to be hooks to the primary Facebook functions that are available from most menus, and the entire look seems clean and well thought out. Social networking fans with a penchant and appreciation for design would most probably like what they see tomorrow with Facebook Home, and we keep our fingers crossed that we will, too.

Google+ Now Supports Full Resolution Photo Uploads

Google+ Now Supports Full Resolution Photo Uploads

Google has been working quite hard on Google+, though it has not yet been able to reach the level Facebook or even Twitter has, their social platform does have a considerable user base. It is quite evident that the company wants it to play a pivotal role among all of its services, so naturally Google rolls out a few tweaks every couple of months to enhance and upgrade the user experience. The latest tweak brings full size photo uploads to Google+. Previously, users were not able to post pictures that were wider than 2048 pixels, that limited has now been removed.

A checkbox can be found in the settings menu from where this feature can be enabled, this has to be done otherwise the 2048 pixel limit would still be in place. Do keep in mind that photos that are over this limit will take up space from the 5GB of free storage that Google+ offers to all users. Photo storage below the 2048 pixel limit will not count towards the 5GB free storage. How often do you use Google+ and do you see yourself making use of this new allowance?

Facebook Home software leaked: here’s what tomorrow holds

The Facebook Phone has been leaked again, this time still inside the “HTC first” smartphone, this time in a set of press images that show off how simple your experience is about to be. What we’ve got here is a new look at Android, complete with an ultra-simplified interface that pulls no punches when it comes to customization. This is no “do what you want” space, that’s for sure. NOTE: Join us here on SlashGear for the full final reveal at 10AM PST – we’ll be live in effect at Facebook headquarters for you!

threeup

In the images you’re seeing above and below (picked up by 9to5Google, you’ll see Facebook being pushed to Android in a big way. In the lockscreen photo (below) you’ll see your Facebook profile image as the center lock – we must assume that you’ll be able to log in with several different profiles if you wish, as Android Jelly Bean allows such functionality at its base.

middle

There you’ll also see notifications from your Phone (this means the device will require voice, dousing thoughts of a web-only smartphone) as well as Instagram and Facebook messaging. This device’s lock screen also shows what may be an ever-changing status update above the fold where you see what your friends are up to.

Below you’ll see an image from inside your photo gallery. This interface makes it appear that Facebook’s take on the Android gallery isn’t all that different from what Google presents. Here you’ll still be able to share to whatever apps you’ve got on the device, including Facebook’s news feed and Facebook Messenger.

Finally you’ll see a home screen, this showing how you’ll still be working with Android icons for the most part, but with the addition of three buttons up top. Up above the fold you’ll be seeing “Status”, “Photo”, and “Check In.” It’s obvious that Facebook intends for you to be tapping these three buttons quite often.

While we’re not sure if these three screens show everything there is to see about the Facebook Phone’s user interface modifications of Android Jelly Bean, we can be sure that the HTC first will be boasting said software tomorrow. You’ll want to JOIN US LIVE AT THE MAIN FACEBOOK EVENT tomorrow at 10AM PST to see the whole show – hit up our Facebook tag portal for more!

HTC First pictured ahead of Thursday’s Facebook event

HTC First pictured ahead of Thursday's Facebook event

The mysterious Facebook event is quickly approaching, and as luck would have it, @evleaks is hooking us up with an image of the device that we’ll be introduced to on Thursday, known as the HTC first. If this is indeed accurate, the press render you see above is what was previously known as the HTC Myst (as well as the Opera and Buffy, if you go back in time far enough). We still don’t have any confirmation on specs, but there are whispers that it will feature a program called Facebook Home, which will serve as the phone’s home screen and launcher. While we can’t glean much from the image itself, it at least seems as though the first will offer the same three-button capacitive key layout as most Android devices — this is important to note, as HTC’s last attempt at a Facebook-integrated smartphone featured a unique button specifically for the social media service.

In terms of actual specs, Android Police leaked quite a few: it’s a midrange phone with dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 processor, 1GB RAM, 5MP rear camera, 1.6MP front-facing cam, Sense 4.5 on top of Android 4.1.2 and a 4.3-inch 720p display. We’ll have a lot more info coming your way on Thursday morning, but this is a good taste to get you going in the meantime — if you have a love for smartphones with deep Facebook integration, at least.

First Render Of HTC’s ‘Facebook Phone’ Reportedly Leaks Ahead Of Thursday Event

facebook-phone

The HTC hardware that’s being prepped as the delivery mechanism for Facebook Home, which has lots more potential than the device itself, supposedly leaked in the image above. The render, tweeted by Evleaks, a consistent source of pre-release Android hardware info, doesn’t look like much: it’s destined to be a mid-range device, after all, according to early leaks.

The leak also suggests it’ll be called the HTC First, which sounds like a not-so-great play on the HTC One naming scheme. Previous info had it codenamed the HTC Myst, which at least brought to mind the popular point-and-click adventure game. The name ‘First’ at least evokes the idea that you’ll be the first of your friends to spot all the activity going down on Facebook, but again, don’t expect the hardware to account for any of the ‘wow’ factor of Thursday’s announcement at Facebook HQ.

What we’ve heard about the phone itself so far indicates a modest but capable performer, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 5 megapixel rear camera and a 4.3-inch display capable of 720p HD resolution. It’s so yawn-inducing that if Facebook spends more than two minutes on hardware and specs on Thursday, I might actually nod off. But it’s an example of what Facebook can offer other OEMs, regardless of device specs: the angle of ‘it’ll even run on your broadly aimed pre-paid handsets’ is a good one for FB’s purposes of establishing a much wider, more entrenched mobile platform.

Even if the phone itself does look a little like a cheap iPhone knock-off.

HTC first Facebook phone press photo leaked

Those of you still skeptical about the possibility of an HTC Facebook Phone can toss in the rest of your chips – there’s been a full leak of the so-called “HTC first” this afternoon. This leak includes one extremely clear photo of the device in question from the notoriously accurate @evleaks, leaker of so many devices such as this in this same manner that we’ve simply come to trust the man. This device is one that will be launching with Facebook’s own customized user interface over Android later this week.

It’s also become apparent via this same source that Facebook for Android – the application you’re using right this minute if you’re working with the main Android-based Facebook app – will need to be updated later this week in order to work with the new system. The new system has been once again confirmed to be called “Facebook Home” as well.

For those of you wondering what this device will be like, hardware-wise, we’ve got a bit of a look at that too! Have a peek at the following list, then head back to the post Facebook Home leaked – the HTC Facebook Phone spills its guts. This device will be bringing on some relatively mid-tier specifications and will be aiming at the everyman, if you pardon the expression.

• HTC Myst (code-name)
• 4.3-inch display, 720p
• AT&T 4G LTE
• 1GB RAM
• Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor (MSM8960) (same as Galaxy S III)
• 5 megapixel camera on back
• 1.6 megapixel camera on front
• Sense UI 4.5 (Facebook Home modifications onboard)
• Bluetooth 4.0
• Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean

Don’t forget to check and see if the HTC Facebook Phone belongs in your pocket! We’ll be live in effect at the Facebook event this Thursday – catch SlashGear through our most excellent Facebook tag portal – we’ll have everything you need to be in the know from start to finish!

This Is (Probably) the New Facebook Phone

Facebook has a big event planned Thursday to show off a new homescreen, reportedly, along with a “midtier” (read: cheap) phone. According to well-known tipster evleaks, this is it. It looks pretty boring, sure, but boring is a billion million times better than Facebook’s last gawdawful swing at hardware. Baby steps! [evleaks] More »
