Wolfram Alpha lets you stalk yourself on Facebook, reminds you how much info you're sharing

You know Facebook’s got dirt on you, it’s one of modern life’s unavoidable trade offs. Now though, thanks to Wolfram Alpha, you can data-mine yourself — something its creator has been doing for years — and get a true sense of exactly what the social network knows about you. You’ll first have to head over to the computational knowledge engine, then search “Facebook report.” Follow the prompts to give the app permission etc, and you’ll be rewarded with a detailed breakdown. The data shows information about your interactions, friends, most popular photos, most common demographics and more. For example, you might discover that you know someone in the Philippines, have a clutch of non-connected friends weirdly in the same location, or that you mom is your top post commenter. Though you probably knew that last part already. Paranoid or curious? Jump on the source link to get started.

Revised market forecast chops $1B from Facebook revenue in 2012

Things haven’t exactly gone swimmingly for Facebook post IPO. The company has seen the value of its stock decline, and according to a new revised forecast published by the market research firm eMarketer; Facebook is going to make a lot less money this year than previously expected. The market research firm has slashed $1 billion from the 2012 Facebook revenue forecast.

I wonder if this revised market forecast will affect Facebook’s stock price. The revised forecast expects Facebook to break $5 billion in revenue this year with $4.2 billion of that revenue expected to come from advertising. The remainder of the revenue will come from payments and other sources. That is a decline of $1 billion from the market forecast the company published in February, before the Facebook IPO.

While eMarketer is predicting significantly less revenue for Facebook this year, the social network is still expected to see his ad revenues grow significantly for 2012 compared to previous years. According to the research firm, ad revenues will grow 34% this year compared to 2011. The company also expects Facebook’s ad revenues to grow 29% next year.

Interestingly, eMarketer’s new revenue forecast doesn’t take into account mobile advertising. Facebook’s ability to generate revenue as more users go strictly to mobile devices for access has been questioned by many investors. Forbes reports that many felt eMarketer’s original estimates were on the high side and its revised prediction of around $5 billion in revenue for 2012 is more in line with predictions made by other analysts.

AT&T U-verse delivers a Facebook app for TVs

AT&T Uverse delivers a Facebook app for TVs

While AT&T’s U-verse TV service announced increased support for second screen apps earlier this year and enhanced its own app for iPad with sharing features recently, it’s just delivered a new app that brings Facebook to the TV screen. The customized interface brings in user’s status feed, friends list and photos, where they can comment or leave standard messages to the service. There’s also naturally a tie-in allowing them to share information and updates about the shows they’re watching on the IPTV service directly through the app. According to the press release (included after the break) it can handle up to ten different accounts on a single receiver, so they don’t all have to post updates to one unlucky members account. Despite seeing many made-for-TV-screens social networking apps we haven’t found one that was definitely easier to use than keeping that kind of info on a second screen phone, tablet or PC, but we’ll wait to hear from U-Verse subscribers about how well this effort is working.

AT&T U-Verse customers can now get Facebook TV app

In some areas, fans of TV can get access to their favorite shows via AT&T U-Verse. Sadly, my area isn’t one of the served U-Verse areas so from outside using satellite or small-town cable networks, U-Verse sounds very interesting. Customers not only the get TV shows via a cable box, AT&T also allows access via other devices such as the Xbox 360.

AT&T has announced a new TV app for U-Verse customers that will allow you to keep up with family and friends right from your TV. AT&T now has an app for Facebook on TV that will allow you to check out Facebook while you’re watching your favorite TV programs. The app allows users to view newsfeed, friends lists, and photos.

The app also allows the user to post status updates and share information about TV shows they’re watching. Users can also interact with friends and you a friends timeline, photos, and status updates. For homes with multiple people using Facebook, the app supports multiple accounts.

U-Verse customers can add 10 different accounts on a single receiver. Obviously, you’ll need a Facebook account and high-speed Internet access via U-Verse to be to access Facebook. It looks like AT&T is hoping that this Facebook app will help users promote U-Verse two local friends via social networking.
