Wearable Solar Clothes Harness the Sun’s Energy as You Go

When the Sun comes out, it’s time to slather on the sunblock. It’s also time to put on your Wearable Solar outfit – because while it’s not the most conservative looking clothing, it’s definitely one of the most functional, avant garde pieces you can wear.

The Wearable Solar project is headed by Christiaan Holland and Pauline van Dongen. With their team of researchers, they’ve created flexible solar cells that can be sewn into clothing and worn.

These cells essentially turn its wearer into a living, breathing power plant of sorts.

The Wearable Solar suit was designed not only with functionality in mind. No one would want to walk around in such a bulky suit all day, so the shoulder flaps easily fold in to hide the panels when the wearer is done soaking up the sun for the day.

Whoever said you can’t be fashionable but still be eco-friendly obviously hasn’t heard of the Wearable Solar.

Meat The Crazy Dresses Made Out Of Food

Unless you have been hiding under a huge rock for the last few years you will know that, in 2010, Lady Gaga shocked the world when she wore a dress made entirely from meat at the MTV Video Music Awards. This got me thinking, although I’m not sure it should have, about whether there may be any other crazy clothing items out there made from food. It turns out that there is. So take a look, there are some absolute crackers.

Kate Moss to design mobile accessory range: ‘My phone’s as much a part of my look as my bag or shoes’

Kate Moss launches mobile accessory range, says her phone is 'as much a part of my look as my bag or shoes'

British model, high-street fashion dabbler and, er, Glastonbury attendee Kate Moss is working on an exclusive collection of phone accessories for UK retailer Carphone Warehouse. Quoted in a press release that doesn’t describe or feature any products from the range, she says she’ll be treating the partnership “like any other fashion collaboration,” and was apparently heavily involved in the design process. Although there’s no word on what the accessories will be, we’d assume an iPhone case of some sort is a given. Carphone Warehouse promises a full range of products when the line launches later this summer, and we’re looking forward to comparing the fruits of the partnership against the high-end phone peripherals that are already being peddling to well-heeled UK phone owners.

Summer Oxford Shirt Has a Hidden Cleaning Cloth on the Inside

Smudged screens are one of my biggest pet peeves. Unfortunately, they’re virtually unavoidable when you have a smartphone because every tap or swipe on the screen will put greasy fingerprints on it.

For that reason, I carry a microfabric cloth with me wherever I go. If you can’t be bothered to do that, then you might want to consider switching out your regular shirts for these Summer Oxford button-downs. (Sorry girls, guys only!)

Aside from giving you a stylish and dapper look, the shirts have a not-so-dirty little secret microsuede patch on the inside that can be used to wipe away smudges on your smartphone’s screen. Heck, you can even use it to wipe down your tablet, if those darned smudges are bugging you that much.

Aside from the hidden microsuede patch, the shirt also has a pocket lined with bright fabric that you can inverted so it’ll look like a spiffy pocket square. Neat-o.

The shirts are made by VoyVoy Clothing and sell for $98(USD) each.

Japanese Sailor School Swimsuit Adds Class To Any Beach

Japanese Schoolgirl Sailor SwimsuitThe Sailor School Swimsuit from Japan’s SchoolFiction turns any summertime siesta into an amusing expose of anime expression… not that there’s anything wrong with that.

LEGO Stilettos: Better Than Stepping on LEGO with Your Bare Feet

Whoever said LEGO was for boys obviously hasn’t seen the LEGO purse (which I’d like to buy, if only they weren’t so expensive!) and these LEGO stilettos or stiLEGOs, for short.

lego stillettos

This colorful pair of footwear was made by artist Finn Stone, who took a pair of boring stilettos and stuck multi-colored LEGO bricks all over them.

It’s a great conversation starter and a pair you can actually wear, if you dare.

Finn’s not selling the pair he made, but you can make your own pair with some LEGO bricks and some super glue. Though you might have a hard time finding a shoe as big as this one:

When It Comes To Your Hair You Can Chalk It Up

Hair Style Colored With Hair ChalkA fun way to temporarily color your hair is with chalk pastels. You can
buy pastels that are sold specifically for hair, or you can use the
chalk pastels sold in art stores. They are much the same. Just make sure
that you don’t mix them up with oil pastels or your hair color won’t be
so temporary and a whole lot messier.

These Gaze-Sensitive Garments Move When They're Looked At

Staring at another person’s clothing is generally considered rude—in fact, the mere concept of gaze has its own history and critical literature. But in this particular case, it’s recommended: These two dresses, by Montreal designer Ying Gao, aren’t really complete unless someone is staring at them.

It’ll Take Months to Get a Bride Out of This Lego Wedding Dress

It'll Take Months to Get a Bride Out of This Lego Wedding Dress

Japanese artist Rie Hosokai, of Daisy Balloon, created this amazing piece of high Lego fashion for Tokyo’s "Piece of Peace" charity exhibit at the Parco Museum. Structurally it’s simply stunning (albeit a bit Disney Princessy). The construction, contour and shape are based on Hosokai’s balloon dress. As an item of haute couture, it’s not so utilitarian. But as an avant-garde work-of-Lego-art it’s simply stunning.

Taking X-Rays Of Women In Corsets Was A Haunting Use Of New Technology

Taking X-Rays Of Women In Corsets Was A Haunting Use Of New Technology

Any tech that allows humans a new type of insight is inevitably turned on ourselves. We want to know what else we can find out from peering in on our bodies or minds in a new way. Of course, x-ray machines were pretty much used from the start for that purpose, but it’s amazing to see these 1908 photos examining how a fashion trend was impacting health.
