Now, we don’t know for sure what the PM23100 that just made its way through the FCC is, but we’d put pretty good odds on it being Verizon’s Windows Phone 8X. Only a couple of hours after what appears to be the AT&T-bound 8X was given the thumbs up by regulators, yet another HTC Windows Phone appeared, with an incredibly similar model number, CDMA radios and compatibility with Big Red’s 700MHz LTE. Knowing that it’s an HTC Windows Phone and that it packs NFC really doesn’t leave too many possibilities. The one pleasant surprise, it’s also compatible with GSM frequencies 850 and 1900,, so you’ll be able to roam the globe with just the swap of a SIM. We all know for sure that Microsoft will be rolling out their very own Surface tablet device in due time (at the end of this month, actually) which will run on the Windows RT operating system. Well, before any piece of consumer electronics are released in the US, they will first need to receive relevant approval from the FCC – and it seems that this is just what happened with the Microsoft Surface tablet via a post on the FCC website that depicted uploaded documents which parade a “tablet PC” of sorts that was running on Windows RT. Of course, this is by no means confirmation that it is the Microsoft Surface tablet itself, considering how the tablet is known as “Model 1516″ in its FCC filing, and the world is not aware of any other Windows RT tablets coming to the market other than the Surface.

“Model 1516″ will also come with Bluetooth and 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity, in addition to a stand and a keyboard peripheral which will be membrane-based. All in all, patience is the operative keyword here as it is just three weeks or so before the Microsoft Surface launches, and we do look forward to the end of October with anticipation.

Another day, another smartphone hits the FCC, where this time around it would be the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE that has undergone testing over by the folks over at the FCC. This spanking new FCC filing does seem towards North America as the destination of choice, where a particular version of the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE has been cleared, where we know that it will come with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system in tow, not to mention AT&T-friendly 700MHz LTE frequencies. Throw in AWS support and you can also introduce it to LTE providers in Canada alongside future T-Mobile, or should we say MetroPCS, deployments.

Other than that, AWS-based 3G, 850MHz and 1,900MHz approvals for North American HSPA providers are also part of the deal. It goes without saying that the Ascend P1 LTE looks set to cater for a wide range of mobile providers if it ever makes its way across the pond, and Huawei is certainly not one who puts all of their eggs in a single basket where the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE is concerned.

It would seem as though the good people over at the FCC will have an overwhelming number of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablets on their hands to play around with, as two variants of Samsung’s latest tablet, the SPH-P500 and the SCH-i915 have made their way to the FCC. These will feature LTE support and will make their way to Sprint and Verizon Wireless, respectively. The Galaxy Tab 2 is known to be powered by a Texas Instrument processor, but so far unverified benchmarks of both did appear online before, pointing towards the possibility of a speedier Snapdragon S4 processor being thrown into the mix this time around.

Not only that, it seems that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for Sprint and US Cellular has also decided to join in the party, where it is called the SPH-L900 and SCH-R950, respectively, sporting dual-mode support. Is your wallet or bank account primed up to pick up either one of these?

On the same day that Dish’s new satellite broadband service kicks off, partner Hughes is upgrading its own offering with even faster speeds. HughesNet Gen4 offers downloads of up to 15 Mbps to the 19 million (or so) Americans who can’t get high-speed fixed-line broadband services. $50 a month will get customers 10 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload with a 20GB data cap, while $80 a month offers a 30GB limit and 2 Mbps upload — but for high-rolling hermits, $100 a month gets you the full 15 Mbps down, 2 Mbps up and a 40GB allowance.
