Hands-On: PS4 Review

Hands On: PS4 Review

Me, playing with the PS4 during E3

The PlayStation 4 will ship later this year and since many people may pre-order it based on pre-release information available on the web (like I did), I thought that posting a hands-on review based on the experience gathered from the initial launch and from on our “hands-on” experience of the console at E3 would make sense. By now, most of the PS4-related information is expected to remain unchanged until the public availability, and basically you’re not going to get to know much more (besides launch titles) until the retail units arrive, so here is everything that we do know about PS4. Let’s see if it is for you. (more…)

    Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Review

    Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Review

Samsung released its latest Galaxy S Android smartphone earlier this year, the Samsung Galaxy S4, which since then has sold like hotcakes as it’s been released globally. One thing we didn’t expect was for there to be an additional version of the Galaxy S4 released shortly after its release that would allow the device to become extremely durable as it has been made to be water and dust-resistant and has a IP67 certification.

If you’re the kind of person who finds themselves in an environment that requires to outfit your smartphone with a special case in order to survive through the day, we’re sure you’ve been keeping an eye on the Galaxy S4 Active as other Android devices that offer water and dust resistance tend to not have the most earth-shattering specs. Samsung has already caught the attention of many with its Galaxy S4, so let’s see if making it resistant to water and dust makes it an even more valuable device. (more…)

Hands On: Samsung Curved OLED TV Review

Samsung announced today they would be bringing its 55-inch Curved OLED TV (Model# KN55S9C) to the U.S. market, which was previously only made available in Korean markets, for a MSRP of $8999. As the name suggest, the Curved OLED TV uses the the same floating design that was introduced earlier this year at CES, which gives the viewer the feeling content is “floating.” We were given some time to get some “hands-on” time with the Curved OLED TV, or rather, we stared at the TV for a couple of minutes, so let’s get into why this is a TV you’d consider buying. Yesterday, Stained Glass Labs, the first incubator/accelerator focused on Glass and wearable Technologies announced the Glazed Conference, a 3-day event that will gather the world’s top tier investors, press, developers and entrepreneurs to engage the Silicon Valley in conversation around  wearable technology.

    Are More Cores, Better?

Are More Cores, Better?Earlier today, tech media outlets were buzzing because Qualcomm’s VP Anand Chandrasekher presented a deck of slides (to a media group in Taiwan) that included a very specific message: among the things that are “dumb”, “Eight-core CPUs” make it to the top of the list.

This comes in the context of Qualcomm being under pressure from the press, and sometimes for the public, to release an “8-core” processor. Why? Basically because “8>4” – if you listen to the common wisdom. Samsung for example, has had ample marketing success with its Exynos Octa 5 “8-core” processor launched at CES 2013. Mediatek is another company that is getting a lot of attention lately because it claims that it will be the first company to launch what they call a “true 8-core” processor for mobiles (official product page).
