Oppo Find 7 Release Date, News & Rumors

Oppo Find 7 Release Date, News & RumorsChinese manufacturers of smartphones are starting to be a force to be reckoned with, and I am quite sure that in due time, some of them might even be the next Samsung or LG. Don’t laugh at this statement – I am quite sure that there were plenty of naysayers in the past that looked at Samsung when it first rolled out its mobile phones, and never really thought that it would be a world leader one day, let alone in the realm of consumer electronics. Stranger things have definitely happened in the past which could serve as a template for the future. The Oppo Find 7 has been long tipped for a debut at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, so let us take a peek at what this puppy will be able to offer. (more…)

    Motorola Droid ULTRA Review

    Motorola Droid ULTRA Review

Motorola released three new Droids smartphones just a few months ago: the Droid ULTRA, the Droid MAXX and the Droid MINI. The Droid ULTRA is the droid that you’ve been looking for if you want to save a couple of bucks from the Droid MAXX, which has an increased 3500mAh battery. It’s also a phone you might be interested in if you owned the Droid RAZR in the past and you’re looking for the latest and greatest Motorola Droid phone.

The Motorola Droid ULTRA is a mid-ranged Android smartphone as it features a 1.7GHz dual-core processor and a 5-inch 1280 x 720 Super AMOLED display, although Motorola certainly bumps things up with its 10MP main camera. The ULTRA brings back the kevlar to the latest Droid, but this time, Motorola has created a unibody kevlar body for the phone, rather than just feature a kevlar rear.

Motorola certainly has big shoes to fill from its popular Droid RAZRs, but can their new ULTRA live up to the Droid name? There’s only one way to find out and that’s with our official review.

Uber Giveaway: Track With Gero And Enter To Win Cool Health Trackers

gero-giveaway-900x275It is undeniable that wearable technology will change the way we quantify ourselves. Already, trackers of all kinds can gather more data about us than ever before, and this is going to increase. However, data-gathering is not a goal in itself and making sense of the data to provide meaningful and actionable information to the user should always be the end-game. That’s why Ubergizmo and Gero are joining forces to give away health trackers.

It’s very hard, but that’s exactly the goal that GERO LAB has set for itself. They use mathematical models to identify risks of age-related diseases by analyzing data gathered by those devices. They have tracked data from 3000 Fitbit users thus far, and with your participation, they plan to refine and improve their work. You can enter to win one of three cool wearable devices.

    What can you win?

GERO will announce 10 winners and each will be able to win one of those three items:

    1. A Fitbit Force (Activity tracker) (Value: $129.95)

    Samsung Galaxy NX Camera Review

Samsung Galaxy NX Camera ReviewShortly before the first Galaxy Camera came out, we knew that Android cameras were going to land and stay. As cameras get smarter, the complexity of the software stack also becomes too hard to develop for camera makers (which are definitely NOT software-centric folks). Samsung is the company that has the best Android Camera offering today, and with the Galaxy NX, it just took the whole sector to the next level.

Optically, the Galaxy NX is more or less a Samsung NX300, a rather potent interchangeable lens camera that our friend Karsten Lemm has reviewed recently. The user interface is however a powerful Android platform that comes with everything that you can expect from a high-end phone, including a 4G LTE connectivity (you have to provide the subscription, obviously). The combination is the Galaxy NX, a smart camera that you use like a smartphone, but that has the image quality of an enthusiast shooter. I’ve used it for a few weeks, and I will tell you how my experience could map into your own. (more…)

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 Hands-On Review

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 Hands On ReviewHuawei came out swinging at CES 2014 and after a brief presentation of the state of the company’s business, by Colin Gilles (EVP, Huawei), Huawei’s Richard Yu (CEO, Consumer Business Group) introduced the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 to the world with a lively, interesting and humorous presentation. It was nice, but make no mistake about it: Huawei is out to compete with the best, and it was clear that the Mate 2 smartphone has been designed to compete with large phones like the Galaxy Note 3, and that Huawei also threw a few punches to Apple, especially when it comes to the tiny battery capacity of the iPhone 5S.

I feel like the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 has not been designed as an “inspirational” device, and it is not trying to make you happy, be your friend, or try improving aspects of your life that you have no need for. This is a no-nonsense phone which brings a powerful Snapdragon 800 chip and a monster 4050mAh battery which is further optimized with a host of software optimizations. (more…)

Bang and Olufsen Reinvents the Wheel with Beosound Essence Sound System

Bang and Olufsen Reinvents the Wheel with Beosound Essence Sound System
When it comes to consumer electronics design, Bang and Olufsen is one of my favorite companies. The Danish manufacturer has been using the wheel as a key component of its devices’ user interface for decades and the iPod was probably inpired by the wheel of the BM 6000 launched in 1974.

Today, Bang and Olufsen launched Beosound Essence, a wheel-shaped music sound system. In the complete article, watch the presentation delivered today at CES by CEO Tue Mantoni .

Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai Candid On 4K, TV Content & Wearable Tech

Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai Candid On 4K, TV Content & Wearable TechEarlier today, we sat down with Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai and a small group of journalists to catch up with Sony announcements at CES 2014. Many questions were asked, and Mr. Hirai answered as candidly as he could without announcing anything new. Here are the highlights:

    4K adoption & content availability

This is the obvious question that most people want to know: basically “if one buys a 4K TV, what content is available, and how fast will new content arrive? Kazuo Hirai acknowledged that these things “don’t happen overnight” and pointed out that it took years between the apparition of HD (1080p) and its large-scale adoption. We’re basically at the beginning of 4K and it will also take years before it becomes a mass-market.

He didn’t get into details, but my interpretation of this is that mass-market is when 50” 4K TVs cost around $2000 and $2500. I personally believe that 4K will come much quicker than HD did because the world has gone digital and content is already being produced in 4K. In fact, if you look at the upcoming content, most big budget movies will be available in 4K fairly quickly. Now, if each of us will have his/her own appreciation of “when” 4K availability will be good enough, but from the looks of it, this should not be a huge problem in the next 18 months. I anything, the content will come before prices will reach a point where 4K becomes a mass-market product. (more…)
