Ferrari LaFerrari Hybrid: 949 Horses, 1.3 Million Dollars, All Sold Out

The Ferrari Enzo was an amazing car, and Ferrari had to come up with something even more awesome to surpass it. Meet the Ferrari LaFerrari.

The Ferrari LaFerrari was unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and while its name is a bit odd, it is packed with technology to beat any car on the road. It features a 949 hp hybrid powertrain, which is supposed to produce breakneck acceleration. The power comes from a 789-hp 6.3-liter V12 engine mated with a 161-hp electric motor. This bad boy will rev up to 9,250 RPM and produce 664 lb-ft of torque, reaching a top speed of 217 miles per hour.

The LaFerrari is selling for about €1 million (~$1.3 million USD). But before you get out your checkbooks, Ferrari will produce only 499 models of this car, and there are already about 700 standing orders, meaning that this car has completely sold out.

Everyone knew Ferrari was cooking up its first hybrid, and that it would be very quick when it was pegged as an Enzo successor. Still, we didn’t quite expect the sledgehammer that is the LaFerrari. Never mind the very redundant naming scheme: there’s a 789HP V12 mated with 160HP of electric power, the 949HP combination of which takes the supercar to 62MPH in less than 3 seconds and makes it the overall fastest Ferrari to date. There’s a nod to eco-friendliness with relatively low emissions, but the hybrid component mostly powers a KERS system that fills out the few weak points in the torque band. You won’t have the chance to buy the LaFerrari — all 499 units of the €1 million ($1.3 million) flagship are spoken for — but there’s already talk of future hybrids that will run solely on electric power some or all of the time.

Don’t be too forlorn if you have money to burn on a tech-centric Ferrari, though. The Maranello crew is also showing the very first results of its Apple collaboration through an upgraded FF. The four-seater GT now has Siri voice integration and ships with a pair of iPad minis to keep backseaters entertained when the 652HP V12 somehow isn’t exciting enough. Ferrari hasn’t said how much the upgraded FF costs, although we imagine that the iOS-linked costs are drops in the bucket next to the vehicle itself. Chairman Luca di Montezemolo hints that it’s just the start of the Apple relationship, too, as Ferrari will be “more precise” about the union in the months ahead.

Future Ferrari Models Could See iPads Integrated Into Them

Future Ferrari Models Could See iPads Integrated Into ThemThe Ferrari is a sports car whose price tag puts it way out of range for most of us, but if you happen to be one of the few who can afford one, you might be interested to learn that future Ferrari models could feature iPads integrated as part of its in-car entertainment system.  During the unveiling of the car maker’s hybrid model, the LaFerrari, Chairman Luca Cordero Di Montezemolo confirmed that they were in talks with Apple about broadening their partnership on in-car entertainment which could see iPad minis being installed on the passenger seats.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard or have seen Apple products being installed by car manufacturers. Some manufacturers have included options in their vehicle such as Apple’s Siri Eyes Free feature which allows the activation and use of Siri without having to reach for our phone while driving. Some car enthusiasts have also taken it upon themselves to modify their vehicles to embed iPhones or iPads in their cars as part of their entertainment system as well.

Ferrari LaFerrari super exotic goes official in Geneva

Sting, Cher, Stig, some people are so famous or infamous that they don’t need last names. Ferrari apparently thinks it’s new hypercar fits in the same category. The car is called the Ferrari LaFerrari. That may well be the worst name possible for the car (Ferrari The Ferrari?). Thankfully, the only bad part about the LaFerrari is the name.

RIPLEY & RIPLEY

The car has gone official at the Geneva Motor Show today and it is incredibly attractive. We couldn’t say that of some of the Ferrari super high-end sports cars in the past. The car has a mid-mounted, direct injection 6.3-liter V12 engine said to be an evolution of the engine used in the F12berlinetta. The engine is connected to a dual-clutch gearbox and an electric motor.

The LaFerrari has a 120-cell 60 kg lithium-ion battery pack packaged under the seats inside a Kevlar casing. After all, in the event of battery problems you don’t want to literally blow your arse off. The engine has a 9250 RPM redline produces 790 hp on its own. The electric motor adds in another 160 hp for a total of 950.

The beastly V12 also produces 663 pound-foot of torque. One of the important things that Ferrari hasn’t talked about is exactly how much the car weighs, Top Gear believes the LaFerrari could weigh under 1300 kg. All we really need to know is that it offers hugely impressive performance with the ability to hit 62 mph in less than 3 seconds and pass 124 mph in less than seven. This is the first Ferrari production car to be fitted with the automakers HY-KERS it was developed by its Formula One guys. It also reduces emissions for the vehicle by 40% and recaptures kinetic energy lost in breaking and cornering. LaFerrari pricing is unknown, but is sure to be insanely high.

Ferrari F150 details leak from private preview event

It’s no doubt a happy day for fans, who have long been teased by the barest glimpses of the Ferrari Enzo’s successor, codenamed the F150, which has been seen in bits and pieces, sometimes cobbled together, but nothing of the entire car – until today. A private showing event has lead to some detail leaks, including that only 499 card will be made.

Ferrari-Enzo-Replacement-spy-photo-104-626x382

Likewise, the limited run of cars will be available in only three colors. The seats will be molded into it and fixed into place, with adjustable pedals instead to deal with different driver heights. Although not mentioned, as Car and Driver noted, the steering wheel will probably be adjustable as well, so that the fixed seats won’t be a big deal.

The Ferrari F150 will feature a hybrid V12 powertrain, producing a whopping 800 horsepower, with an extra punch of 150 horsepower with the KERS electric-boost system onboard. It’s said the F150 will have a neck-snapping 0-to-62mph time of only 3 seconds, reaching 124mph in seven seconds and topping out at 230mph.

The Geneva Motor Show is coming up, and there’s a chance we could see it revealed there. According to rumors, this will be the fastest Ferrari to hit the Fiorano test track. Of course, this information is subject to change, and might not be correct, as it is coming from individuals who are said to have attended the events, not from any official source.

Ferrari by Logic3 GT1 Bluetooth speaker dock set for CES 2013

The brand known at the moment as “Ferrari by Logic3″ have revealed their next-generation Bluetooth-connected speaker dock, the GT1, ready for action at CES 2013. This machine is a high-powered 2.2.1 speaker system works with an integrated 6.5-inch subwoofer, works with Class HD patented technology for high efficiency delivery of “ultimate power”, as they say, and you’ve got a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) built-in as well. A DSP, in this case, is described as a feature giving you control over the crossover and equalization of the music so you’re able to create a “natural musical tone”.

_0040_250w-hero

Along with that lovely tone you’ve got with this fancy beast, you’ll have extended low frequency response. We’re expecting this speaker to blow us away, essentially, with solid sound that’s unlike any we’ve heard from a comparably priced set. You’ll be able to work with this machine with Android devices, the iPhone, and Windows Phone smartphones as well – anything able to connect with Bluetooth, really.

Text-1

This beast also connects to your new Scuderia FS1 and/or Cavallino GT1 machines from Ferrari by Logic3 to offer added controls you might never have known were possible! There’s a Ferrari by Logic3 app for control of this new system, too. This app works for iOS only and will be available early this year, allowing users to display a clock, set an alarm, control the music on their device (sending it to the speaker dock, of course), and hit up 4 GT car sounds from Ferrari – meant for your alarm, to be sure.

This is just one of a massive barrage of devices you’ll be seeing over the next full week as we head into the biggest set of tech events of the year – the Consumer Electronics Show! Head to the CES 2013 tag to follow SlashGear all around the floor, up, down, and back again until you have so much device coverage, you wont know what to do with yourself.

Ferrari Logic3 Cavallino T350 Headphones: Can’t Drive These Drivers

Mad about Ferraris, but you can’t afford to buy one in your lifetime? If you’re not worried about spending a little bit of cash, check out these Ferrari-branded headphones. The only question that I have is will they perform as well as they are priced?

cavallino over ear headphones

These Ferrari Cavallino T350 headphones were created by Logic3, and are supposed to embody premium performance, thanks to their large 40mm drivers. These cans also have active noise-canceling technology, so you won’t hear much of what’s going on in the outside world when you wear them. The ear cups and headbands are trimmed with leather to ensure comfort. They also have an Apple-compatible 3-button remote and the cord is supposed to be tangle-free, and is trimmed with woven fabric.

The Cavallino T350 Headphones retail for $399(USD). I’m curious about how these stack up with other similarly-priced headphones. Will they blow them away or do you pay a lot just to have the Ferrari name on them?
