The idea behind this video is pretty simple, it’s a laser igniting black flash paper to spark fire inside a bottle. But the execution of it is just mesmerizing. The Wicked Laser 100mW Spyder III Krypton burns through the paper in a pyro domino effect and the flame just explodes inside the bottle. You get to see it broken down in slow motion too. Lasers. Fire. Slow motion. Always a good combination. [World Scott via Laughing Squid] More »
The Breakdown of a Fire Hydrant

Fire Facial Treatment ‘Burns’ Wrinkles off – and Maybe Your Face – in the Process
Posted in: Today's ChiliNow here’s another weird beauty treatment that might just overshadow Kim Kardashian’s gruesome-looking blood facials. No blood is going to be drawn or injected when these facials are done, although your face will be covered with a towel and set on fire in the middle of the whole process.
I kid you not. It’s called the Huǒ liáo treatment and it’s currently gaining a lot of traction in China. The procedure involves covering the victim’s person’s face, legs, and other treatment areas with a towel soaked in alcohol and a ‘special elixir.’ It is then set ablaze for a few seconds before it dies out.
According to the people behind it, the burning process stimulates the skin and treats dullness, sagging, and wrinkles. It doesn’t look like the safest or sanest thing to do, but then again, when have women been sane when it comes to beauty?

The Country Fire Authority of Victoria (CFA), Australia, is blaming Apple Maps inaccurate mapping issues in its FireReady app. Officials are stuck with using Apple Maps for FireReady on iPhones and iPads. A large number of towns including Macedon are located incorrectly, due to inaccuracies in the app. This makes the job of finding the exact location of bushfires very difficult.
To shed some context, there is a Google Maps, but iPhone/iPad Apps that query iOS for geographical location have to use Apple Maps. The alternative may be to use the Google Maps API over the web, but that would require substantial changes in the app. (more…)

Sometimes it’s fun to challenge ourselves. I’m in Aspen covering the Winter X Games, so I’ve got ice on the brain. I’ve never made an ice luge before, but I started thinking, “How could I make one in my hotel room with basically no tools?” More »
