AT&T Nokia Lumia 920 Firmware Update Runs Into Issues

AT&T Nokia Lumia 920 Firmware Update Runs Into IssuesEarlier this morning, we did mention on how the Nokia Lumia 920 over at AT&T has received a spanking new firmware update, which would bump up the version to 1308, but it seems that the entire firmware update has hit an undesirable snag. Normally, updates tend to introduce improvements to a particular device, but when it comes to this flagship Windows Phone 8 powered smartphone from the Finnish smartphone manufacturer, things appeared to have gotten worse.

There is a thread over on Reddit that saw Lumia 920 owners share horror stories after installing the new update, as it concerns the handset maintaining a connection to AT&T. It seems that one user has shared his grievances on seeing his device go through the full works where connection possibilities are concerned, starting from no service to LTE with full bars, EDGE and 4G, all in a single spot without moving anywhere. Definitely not a normal occurrence, we do hope to see Nokia fix this particular issue as soon as possible, and for those who have yet to install the latest firmware update, it makes perfect sense to hold it off at the moment.

Google posts Android 42x factory images for Sprint and Verizon Galaxy Nexus models

Many would call the HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus the only true Nexus of its era. Still, Google is willing to treat the CDMA versions as equals, and it just posted factory images with the latest available Jelly Bean builds for those devices. Anyone with a Verizon model can now flash with Android 4.2.2 if their existing OS install ever goes awry; Sprint users aren’t quite on an equal plane, but do get a 4.2.1 image to work from. Relevant driver binaries are also available. Whether you’re a custom ROM creator looking for a starting point or just want a fallback for any risky experiments, the relevant source links should have what you need.

God of War: Ascension 1.03 Update Released

God of War: Ascension 1.03 Update ReleasedWell, we did bring you news on God of War: Ascension sometime last week, and here we are with yet more news that has to do with this best selling title. In fact, there is a legion of champions out there, who have spent plenty of time recently to help out Kratos in his latest single-player journey. With the release of the latest 1.03 update that has been deployed today, it would hopefully help you enjoy the title even more. Do not judge an update by its size – it might be small here, but at least you will be able to gain an added support line at the Trial of Archimedes, in addition to enhancements made to multiplayer customization with a new appearance feature for your Champion, where the development team has called them “Marks”.

The 1.03 update would see the end of each elevator stage have players pick up a measured amount of green health orbs, in addition to a nominal amount of blue magic orbs. It does not matter just which difficulty level did you select to complete it, all are affected, and hopefully in the course of doing so, will address feedback concerning “Trial of Archimedes” while ensuring the level of challenge is preserved.

Pebble 1.9.1 Firmware Update Announced

Pebble 1.9.1 Firmware Update AnnouncedThe Pebble smartwatch can be said to be a labor of love, although waiting for the watch to come into existence is not exactly the best thing to do so far, as history has indicated, where the entire process proved to be excruciatingly slow. Well, after waiting for so long, only to pick up a Pebble watch, it would not be surprising to hear that a handful of Pebble owners are not too pleased to see their new smartwatches go dead after a shutdown.

Hence, it is good to know that there is a new firmware upgrade in town that will ensure that such non-reviving Pebble smart timepieces will be relegated to documentation for future generations, so if you happen to own a rather wonky Pebble smartphone, it would be a good idea to pick up the 1.9.1 firmware update. This particular firmware update will squash the bug which occasionally prevents the microcontroller from reconfiguring itself before the watch is turned off, resulting in the buttons being unresponsive after “waking up”.

Pebble 1.9.1 firmware update arrives to resolve shutdown woes

Pebble update resolves shutdown woes

Some Pebble owners were understandably perturbed when their smartwatches seemingly went dead after a shutdown — that’s not the best first impression of an emerging technology. Some credit is due for a rapid turnaround, however, as the Pebble team just delivered a 1.9.1 firmware upgrade that should tackle the problem. It fixes a bug that occasionally prevented the microcontroller from reconfiguring itself before the watch went dark, leaving the buttons unresponsive on wake and the Pebble more of a paperweight. You’ll still have to swap out for a replacement if your watch has already fallen ill and won’t recover, but the experience should be more reliable for already functional watches from here on out. Let fellow owners know how well the upgrade worked in the comments.

[Thanks, Daniel]

Nintendo 3DS update moves your saves from retail games to downloads

Nintendo 3DS update lets gamers move saves from retail games to downloads

Let’s say you bought a pair of cartridge-based games to go with your Nintendo 3DS, but you’re embracing our all-digital future and want to replace them with downloadable copies. You won’t have to toss all your game progress at the same time: a newly available 3DS firmware update includes a tool to move save files from a retail copy to its downloadable version. The transfer is strictly one-way, though, so there’s no falling back for gaming Luddites. Nintendo offers a bonus if you’re fully in step with the online world, though — background downloads can now start just by closing the lid while the eShop is running. Both elements of the update are simple on the surface, but they could go a long way in helping us ditch a legacy of plastic game libraries.

MacBook EFI Updates Bids Adieu To Battery Issues

macbook air review 03 hero MacBook EFI Updates Bids Adieu To Battery IssuesApple has released a bunch of firmware updates in order to fix a rare issue which plagued systems which rely on excessively used batteries, where it involved the affected device to be unable to boot up. This bunch of EFI firmware updates should bring an end to systems affected that will sometimes see the unexpected shut down or having the machine simply freeze.

Apple has long determined battery health via the number of charge cycles which said battery has gone through. A solitary charge cycle is a sum of partial charges which equates to one full charge, and has claimed that batteries ought to last anywhere from 300 to 1,000 charge cycles. Needless to say, Murphy has struck as a relatively rare issue in select systems resulted in a non-functional machine whenever the system detects that it has already passed the 1,000 charge cycles mark.

A trio of EFI firmware updates for the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and MacBook ought to fix this issue for good, and they can be obtained via the Software Update section, although you can also head towards these links: MacBook SMC Firmware Update 1.5, MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.6 and MacBook Air SMC Update 1.8 and perform the updates manually yourself.

Rough hack converts an Optimus G to a Nexus 4, minus the constant sellouts

Rough hack converts an Optimus G to a Nexus 4, minus the constant sellouts

It’s almost a truism to say that the Nexus 4 is near impossible to buy, at least for those who don’t want to pay a carrier premium. G33k3r, Rohan32 and others at XDA-Developers may just save us from camping at the Google Play storefront through a new software hack. Their work converts an LG Optimus G‘s firmware to that of an 8GB Nexus 4 by swapping every LG-customized software element with a Nexus 4 parallel. The nearly identical hardware makes for a very close rendition, at least if you discount the unavoidable design differences. If anything, the work is almost too faithful: the current hack turns off LTE, caps the internal storage at 8GB and even requires using Nexus 4 firmware for future upgrades. It’s possible to revert to LG’s code if there’s jitters, but it goes without saying that the overall procedure carries more than the usual share of risk when even familiar ROM flashers are warned to be careful. Anyone who throws caution (and the price of an Optimus G) to the wind can find their stock Android experience at the source.
