Flappy Bird Was Ported To The Commodore 64 Because Why Not

Remember when Doom porting to obscure systems was a thing? You were only a true nerd once you had Doom running on your Ti-83. Now it’s Flappy Bird as witnessed by this C64 port. As the product page notes, the game was coded by a Vietnamese developer, .Gears, and later ported to C64 by an indie game dev, Sos. The overnight rise and demise of Flappy Bird only increases the app’s draw.… Read More

Used Electronics Retailer Paying More For Phones With Flappy Bird

Used Electronics Retailer Paying More For Phones With Flappy BirdWhen Flappy Bird’s developer announced he would be taking the game down, suddenly we started seeing listings on eBay second hand iPhone units with the Flappy Bird game installed on them. The phones were being sold for hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars, although eBay soon put an end to that as they claimed it violated the website’s policy. For those who weren’t quick on the draw, it looks like you’ll be stuck with your phone, or maybe not. Thanks to the folks at BGR, they have discovered that website UpgradeSwap is actually willing to pay smartphone owners a little extra if their phones were to come with Flappy Bird preinstalled on them.

Of course don’t expect to get paid a few extra hundred dollars, but you can expect to get an additional $10, $15, or even maybe $20 depending on the condition of your device. For those unfamiliar, UpgradeSwap is essentially similar to websites like Gazelle and uSell where they buy second hand gadgets from people looking to get rid of their older phones or upgrade to a newer one. Now this does not mean that UpgradeSwap will actually sell the phones with Flappy Bird preinstalled as the phones will most likely be factory reseted, but it is a good marketing stunt given how popular the game is at the moment, despite the fact that the game has since been removed from app stores around the world.

Real-Life Flappy Bird Game Looks Fun

As everyone on the internet must have heard by now, Flappy Bird is essentially gone from most app stores, unless of course you are counting the multitude of clones and copycats. Of course there are still ways of playing the game but if you’re looking for a non-mobile and non-digital version of the game, perhaps the use of some cardboard and an Arduino sensor, a couple of motors, and a lot of creativity could result in the real life Flappy Bird game that you can check out in the video above.

This project was put together was Fawn Qiu who decided to attempt to create the game in real life. Using a box, an Arduino sensor, two servo motors, a reed switch and a magnet, she managed to put together her creation. Basically this is Flappy Bird but played in a non-digital sort of way. The motor basically keeps the background and the pipes rotating, and pressing a button would cause the Flappy Bird token to “flap”. It is also able to detect when you hit a pipe or crash, after which the box would close on itself and a little tune would play to let you know that it is game over. We have to say that this is a pretty clever idea, not to mention incredibly cute as well, so if you’d like to see the game in action, check it out in the video above.

Flappy Bird Clones Now Being Booted By Apple And Google

Flappy Bird Clones Now Being Booted By Apple And Google

The entire Flappy Bird episode was amusing to say the least. Created by a Vietnamese developer, this infuriating game achieved global popularity within a few days and even started earning its developer as much as $50,000 in ad revenue every single day. A couple of weeks ago though developer Dong Nguyen said that he would be pulling the game shortly, and he did. Since then a number of Flappy Bird clones have made their way onto the App Store and Google Play Store, some clones on the latter were actually found to be full of malware. According to reports, both Apple and Google have now begun clamping down on apps that have “flappy” in their titles.

Flappy Bert A Sesame Street Parody Of Flappy Bird

Flappy Bert A Sesame Street Parody Of Flappy BirdFlappy Bird fever is not quite over just yet, and here we are with more Flappy Bird news. Sort of, actually. U.S. children’s TV programme Sesame Street happens to have launched a parody of Flappy Bird, which is known as Flappy Bert. Needless to say, this will be Bert from the famous Bert & Ernie duo, where players will need to guide Bert to go through a range of different pipes. This is one of the cuter clones of the game, that is for sure, and it will not be the last of it. In fact, word on the street has it that even Fall Out Boy is working to roll their very own version of Flappy Bird. The American band mentioned on their official website, “Rome wasn’t built in a day, but this game was. We bring you Fall Out Bird…shoutout to the OG Flappy Bird, RIP.” You can view the YouTube video of Fall Out Bird after the jump.

Fake Flappy Bird Apps Run Malware Instead

Fake Flappy Bird Apps Run Malware InsteadIt goes without saying that the Flappy Bird craze is not going to die down anytime soon, and we have even heard of reports that a certain Mr. Nelson is renting out his iPhone that has Flappy Bird installed at a rate of $1 per minute, now how about that? Having said that, it must also be noted that a fair number of Flappy Bird clones and similar looking apps have also been “hatched”, where security firms have discovered that these applications actually run malware as they masquerade as a Flappy Bird clone.

Want To Play Flappy Bird? Rent An iPhone

Want To Play Flappy Bird? Rent An iPhoneNow here is a rather interesting method of making some money – renting out your iPhone to folks who are desperate to get their Flappy Bird fix. Do you think that this is one of those ideas that made you go, “Darn, why didn’t I think of that in the first place?” Listings on eBay that sport a smartphone with Flappy Bird installed are no longer allowed and have been taken down, and this move struck US-based Jeff Nelson with the idea of renting out his iPhone to those who cannot get enough Flappy Bird action. After all, Dong Nguyen, the developer of Flappy Bird, decided to take down Flappy Bird from all the app stores that it is available on for “our own good”, and this did not go down well with some folks who have already become hooked to it.
