Simpsons Flash Drives: USB D.Oh

If you’re like me, you’re probably starting to amass a collection of flash drives that’s as big as that stack of AOL CDs you had back in the 1990s. But fans of The Simpsons will have to run out immediately and add to their flash drive collection with these fun new storage devices from USBTribe.

The officially-licensed series of keychain flash drives includes big-headed versions of Marge, Lisa, Bart and Homer, cast out of soft rubber. While they only store 8GB of data each, you’re not buying these for the capacity anyhow. In case you’re wondering where the drive is stored, it’s in the head of each of the characters, though I assume that the Homer one is a bit more forgetful than most memory devices.

Simpsons collectors can grab them now over at USBTribe for €19.90 (~$25 USD) each. Now where’s my Ned Flanders and Krusty the Clown drives?

LaCie unveils stealthy PetiteKey USB flash drive

LaCie has unveiled its newest key-shaped flash drive, the PetiteKey. This USB drive is 30-percent smaller than its predecessor, the iamaKey, making it easier to carry on a key ring. In addition to being stealthy, the drive also offers Private-Public encryption to keep files safe and one year of Wuala Secure Cloud Storage.

The PetiteKey offers several features, including being waterproof up to 100-meters, something that’s perhaps most convenient for those times your keys find their way into the washing machine. The connector is scratch-resistant, a necessary feature due to both the drive’s cap-free end and its perilous life on a key ring. The PetiteKey offers USB 2.0 connectivity.

Bundled with the PetiteKey are two extra services: Private-Public, and Wuala Secure Cloud Storage. Private-Public is encryption software allowing users to protect their files with AES 256-bit security and a password. Wuala Secure Cloud Storage is included for one-year, and provides an online account for users to store their data.

The drive is available in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB capacities, and is priced at $14.99, $22.99, and $39.99. You can pick up the USB drive from LaCie’s online store, or via one of the company’s partners. LaCie is a manufacturer of storage devices, and operates in the Americas, Europe, and Asia.

LaCie’s New Waterproof USB Key Is Smaller Than Your House Key

The problem with little USB jump drives is that no matter how many you own, you’ve never got one when you need it. You could’ve have sworn you tossed one in your bag, but when it’s time to pass files around, it’s not there. That’s why we’re tempted to keep LaCie’s new PetiteKey dangling from our keychains. Outdated USB Collector concept

I am quite sure that you would have collected your fair share of USB flash drives by now, attending many press conferences and roadshows where prospectus and flyers now come in the digital format instead of on some high quality paper. Well, designers Lee Seungmin and Jin Juhyun decided that this particular collection of USB flash drives could be put to better use – by coming up with the concept that they have dubbed the Outdated USB Collector. The whole idea of the Outdated USB Collector is this – you use your old USB flash drives and dock them onto this concept, and they will use their collective storage space as one. By far a better idea compared to throwing away those 1GB and 2GB USB flash drives, don’t you think so? Of course, we do wonder what you are going to do with that 64MB USB flash drive of yours…

In front of the Outdated USB Collector, there will be a LCD display that is constantly updated, showing you just how much free storage space there is left. Should you run out of available memory, all you need to do is plug in a different USB flash drive (of larger capacity, obviously), and the situation should be settled.

USB Bracelet: Never Lose a Flash Drive Again

If there’s one thing that I’ve lost a lot of over the years, it’s USB flash drives. From people just taking them, to just losing them because of their diminutive size, USB drives need to be replaced at rapid rate. However, if you had a USB drive hidden in your bracelet, you’d probably be less likely to misplace it.

PSY Flash Drive Stores Data to the Beat of Gangnam Style

PSY’s Gangnam Style has taken over the world. It’s currently the third most-viewed video ever on YouTube and it has spawned countless memes and video parodies to date. And wouldn’t you know? Fueling the craze even further is the fact that PSY now has a USB drive designed and fashioned to his image.

Gangnam Style USB2

I think it’s safe to say that his viral hit has just taken him on a whole, new level. How many other artists can say that some folks made a flash drive that looked like them after just one huge hit? I’d say only a handful of them could.

They can’t dance and they can’t sing, but they certainly capture the true look and essence of PSY. At least, in my opinion.

These flash drives are available from USBGeek in 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB capacities. The drives are priced from $17 to $35, depending on the capacity you get.

Decapitated Teddy Bear USB Drive Loses His Head for Your Data

This Teddy Bear USB Drive is as cute and adorable as flash drives can get. Heck, they’re so fluffy and doe-eyed that kids would mistake them for toys and grab them from your desk.

When they do, I suggest that you get the USB back though because aside from possibly containing your confidential data, it also has the potential to break their hearts and scar them forever.

I think the picture says it all. Dear Teddy, headless? Oh, the sheer horror of having to comfort the kid when he accidentally (or purposefully) pulls Teddy’s head off. That said, this flash drive is probably best for storing back-up files or other data that wouldn’t require you to bring it to an actual office. For obvious reasons.

Headless Teddy Bear USB Drive1

On a side note, it’s totally appropriate for Halloween. The Headless Teddy Bear USB Drive is priced from $22 to $38 (USD), depending on the storage capacity. 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB drives are available.

Stab Your PC with a Butterfly Knife USB Drive

USB ports will immediately surrender when you threaten them with Benchmade’s Bali-USB drive. Not only does it look like a balisong – aka butterfly knife – you can also flip and twirl it around, minus the risk of being stabbed.

The drive is modeled after Benchmade’s 62 Bali-Song knife. Aside from the blade being swapped out, the USB drive is also made of plastic instead of steel, probably to make it cheaper. Here’s a demo video by YouTuber WHbluelife:

BladeOps is selling the 4GB model of the Bali-USB flash drive for the wallet-slashing price of $30 (USD).

iTwin SecureBox gives Dropbox users hardware encryption

iTwin has been around for a while now, and it provides users with a simple file-sharing solution through a pair of USB flash drive. Today, the company introduced support for Dropbox by announcing iTwin SecureBox. This will provide hardware encryption for Dropbox users so that their data stays safe in the cloud.

The best part about this new feature is that it’s all software-based, so there’s no need to go out and buy an additional set of iTwin USB dongles if you already have some — they’ll work with the SecureBox update. All you do is plug the dongle in and link it to your Dropbox account. You’re all set from there on out.

Once everything is in place, the SecureBox software generates a unique key that’s stored on both halves of the iTwin dongle. A window will pop up into which you can dump sensitive files, and they will become encrypted automatically with the option to add a password for added security. Once that’s done, the files will be put safely in your Dropbox volume.

After the initial setup process, the two halves of the USB dongle can be separated and act independently. So, you’ll be able to send encrypted files to your Dropbox account from two different locations if need be. Obviously, this in itself poses as a security risk, since either of the dongles could become lost, so just practice extreme caution and always remember where your iTwin dongles are at all times. For more info on iTwin itself, read our full review.

Let’s Hope These Eraser Flash Drives Don’t Erase Your Data

I’ve seen USB flash drives crammed into all sorts of things over the years, but there’s something just so wrong it’s right about these flash drives stuck inside of pink rubber erasers.

eraser flash drive

They’re made by Etsy seller JustJest, and neatly mounted inside of those iconic Pink Pearl erasers we all used in school at some point or another. As I mentioned in the headline, my only concern would be that actually rubbing the eraser on paper would eventually wear it down to the circuitry inside and start messing with your actual data. Of course, you probably wouldn’t ever use it as an eraser. And it’s not likely that you’ll get too much use out of it as a storage device either, since it only comes in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB versions.

Still, it’s a cool design, and I’d own one just to see what people said when I pulled it out to use it. The 2GB version is selling for $20(USD) right now, while you’ll need to contact JustJest for other memory sizes.
