Flipboard Updated To Version 2.0, Adds Pinterest-like Features

Flipboard Updated To Version 2.0, Adds Pinterest like FeaturesHey Flipboard users, do you hate juggling various social media platforms? Well Flipboard has announced a new update to their popular app, bringing it up to version 2.0 in what the company calls its “most ambitious thing” (via Mashable) they have ever done. For those unfamiliar with Flipboard, it is an app that allows users to subscribe to various news feeds and content, and to a certain extent acts as an RSS reader, albeit a very beautiful, magazine-like one. However in its version 2.0 update, Flipboard will be adding a Pinterest Pinboard-like “Magazine” feature, search, notifications, and even sees integration with Etsy for those on the lookout for unique handcrafted items. Those who own the app will be able to update it via the iTunes App Store, and for those who do not have it, the app is free for download, so what are you waiting for?

Flipboard Goes Big, Launches Support For 10-Inch Android Tablets

flipboard

Flipboard has just launched its social magazine app to support Android tablets, including the Nexus 10, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy Tab line.

Flipboard is an app that aggregates your RSS info, social networks, etc. to create a beautiful, flippable magazine. In fact, the app won Best Touch Interface at the 2011 Crunchies. But making sure that interface creates the same experience across all platforms has proven tough, as Flipboard didn’t migrate over to Android at all until June of this year.

Since then, the app’s been available across the entire iOS ecosystem and Android smartphones, and the Kindle Fire and Nook tablets. But today marks a complete expansion into Android.

This is as big as Flipboard’s ever had to go in terms of optimization. But according to the release, Flipboard worked directly with Samsung to optimize page layouts for the wider screen of some Android devices. Users of these larger Android tablets will see larger story excerpts.

It’s unclear whether or not Flipboard will head to Windows Phone next. That seems the logical next step in terms of platform expansion, though there’s no indication that the company has any such plans. Then again, anything can happen. Flipboard may even throw a curve ball and hit BB10 when it finally launches.

Flipboard for iOS adds new Books section from Apple’s iBookstore

Flipboard users, especially on iOS, will be happy to know that their favorite social magazine application is welcoming a new category today. It is simply called Books and it’s powered by 25 new sections containing the most popular books from Apple’s iBookstore. Yes, you heard that right. Flipboard and Apple are now working together to bring books into the app. The new Books section is essentially like browsing in a bookstore, right from your Flipboard.

That means that iOS users can now browse for books inside the Flipboard app. They cannot, however, read the entire book there. The books from iBookstore are optimized for Flipboard. The pages are clean and white, offering enough well-lighted space for comfortable reading. Apart from the book summary and image from the publisher, there are also links that lead directly to Apple’s iBookstore. The new Books section is available beginning today via the local Flipboard Content Guides. For now, the new feature is only available on iOS.
