Logitech’s IFA 2013 lineup includes tablet cases, mice and more, we go eyes-on

Logitech

We’ve seen most of Logitech’s latest products by way of press shots, but the company was clearly waiting for IFA to trot out the real deals. We caught the peripheral maker as it was in the process of setting of its booth for the show and got a quick tour of what it’s working on. First up, the company’s giving a little folio love to Android tablet owners, releasing a keyboard case for the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 and protective cases for the 10.1, 8.0 and 7.0. We also got a chance to check out that beefy G602 wireless gaming mouse, which’ll give you around 250 hours of gaming on a charge. Speaking of mice, the Ultrathin Touch Mouse is a pretty nice looking peripheral — one that pairs pretty nicely with its TK820 keyboard. M-Edge Stealth Pro Universal Keyboard Folio

M Edge Stealth Pro Universal Keyboard FolioWhen it comes to keyboard cases for the seemingly ubiquitous tablet, these are dime a dozen. Are there any other models out there which could change the way we look at this particular hardware genre? M-Edge might have the answer in the form of the Stealth Pro Universal Keyboard Folio, which happens to be an extremely slim as well as versatile universal keyboard case. The case itself will play nice with a slew of 7” as well as 10” tablets, where these will include (but are not limited to) the iPad, iPad mini, Google Nexus 7, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, and Kindle Fire HD 7 & 8.9.

If you are interested in picking one up, you will have to wait until September 6th, where it should be made available over at T-Mobile, US Cellular, and medgestore.com, with other retailers (Walmart included) also part of the posse. What makes the Stealth Pro Universal Keyboard Folio so slim is the integration of a slim profile alongside the modularity of a detachable magnetic Bluetooth keyboard which allows you to slide it to any position that you desire. This enables it to achieve unlimited stand modes thanks to M-Edge’s patent-pending GripTrack technology, which is a friction-based solution that delivers infinite viewing and typing positions. HP’s EliteBook Folio Ultrabook getting a 1,600 x 900 screen option in March

We’ll be the first to admit we’ve reviewed an overwhelming number of Windows 8 laptops lately, but perhaps you remember the HP EliteBook Folio? If you don’t, here’s a one-sentence summary: it’s a fantastic machine, with long battery life, fast performance and a generous warranty, but it’s stuck with a fairly low-res 1,366 x 768 display. As it turns out, HP is already working on a better screen. A spokesperson for the company confirmed to us that a 1,600 x 900 option will be offered to US and European customers starting in early March. No word yet on how much that upgrade will cost, but if the pixel count was the main reason you ruled it out the first time around, it might be worth a second look — so long as you’re willing to wait another two months for it, of course.

Twelve South BookBook iPhone Case Review: This Book Is Thick But Useful

iPhones can take plenty of abuse, but they get scratched up pretty quickly, which is one of the reasons why cases are necessary. Unlike some, I prefer to keep my phone in as good condition as possible, so when I inevitably upgrade and resell it, I get maximum value. The BookBook case from Twelve South is an interesting idea, since it combines a protective iPhone case with a wallet.

The BookBook case is nicely designed, and fits the iPhone 4 and 4S well. There are 3 slots for credit cards and ID cards, as well as a small slip pocket for some cash. The best thing about this case is that it keeps your iPhone screen scratch-free. Unless you are very diligent in always storing your iPhone in a pocket with nothing else, it will eventually get scratched up. Thanks to its phone pocket and folding cover, this case stops this from happening. The case can also be put inside a bag or purse without any problems.

Personally, I like my cases minimal and simple, but when I was offered this case for review, it made me wonder if that’s really what I wanted. For me, it’s not the best fit due to its bulk. The book-like cover is a cute idea, but the overall design makes the phone a lot thicker than it needs to be. That said, if you’re looking to travel light, it does combine wallet and phone case, and that’s all some people need when they go out clubbing.

With a list price of $59.99 (USD), the BookBook is one of the more expensive iPhone cases I’ve seen. In fact, it’s close in price to some of the waterproof cases that I’ve been looking at. That said, it’s reasonably priced if you take into account the cost of both a case and a wallet.

The BookBook case is available over at Twelve South in either brown or black leather. You can also find the case At TiG on sale for just $21 right now.

Belkin iPad Mini Cases: A Little Something for Everyone

While I have to admit that I’m on the fence on whether to get the iPad Mini, I’ve been told by a couple of friends that they’d appreciate a smaller iPad because it would be easier to carry around with them everywhere. That being said, if you’re planning on getting one, you’ll need a case to protect it from bumps and scratches in your bag, and Belkin just released a couple of good ones.

Their new line of iPad Mini sleeves and covers feature an array of fabrics, patterns, and features that will go along nicely with Apple’s new mini tablet. They will definitely protect your precious new gadget (and ensure that you’re ready to resell it when the iPad Mini with Retina display is surely launched next year.)

Prices for the casese range from $29.99 to $39.99(USD) and there are currently a total of five different styles and a variety of colors to choose from.
