Ken Block’s Gymkhana 5 has Ford Fiesta tearing up a real San Francisco

The video you’re about to partake in has the driving showman known as Ken Block taking a few fine minutes out of his day to rip up some blocked-off main roads of a major metropolitan area. Right across a major suspension bridge and down into the guts of San Francisco goes Block in his video Gymkhana 5. With his own Ford Fiesta Hybrid Function Hoonage Vehicle (HFHV), Block displays some on-point jumps, drifts, and one whole heck of a lot of speedy driving.

You’ll find that this 650 horsepower vehicle that Block drives is more than ready to cruise at unheard-of speeds through the city streets in a collection of ways only otherwise possible in a video game. You’ve got GoPro cameras mounted in the car and on the car, stationary cameras at hundreds of locations along the roadway, and a helicopter cam as well, of course.

Once again note that these roads were completely blocked off when this driving was taking place, and that without express permission from the city, none of this would have been even remotely possible. The San Francisco Bay area has never seen something as wild as this on four wheels – and splattered with Monster green and a heavy push for DC shoes, too!

GM and Ford hope to build first “robot” car

All right, so everyone in the industry, no matter which industry it is, wants to play the role of being a pioneer, and in other words, being first. GM (General Motors) and Ford, very much pioneers in their own right, are right now in a rather tight race to roll out the first “robot” car in the world – which would actually be self-driving robot cars. Which of the two do you think will be able to work out their vision in due time? Only time will tell, and folks might want to place their bets as well with the local bookie on everything tech.

Ford and General Motors did mention that they have far more than just a passing interest in semi-autonomous technology, and both automakers did invest plenty of money to make sure that this particular vision of theirs might one day, launch, too. This robot car is said to rely on an integrated sensor that will monitor lane and traffic markings, making adjustments to the speed automatically as well so that it is capable of matching the flow of the traffic. Auto experts do think that such a feature will help mankind achieve easier transportation easier, not to mention see a reduction in US fatalities.

2013 Shelby GT350 gets new options and colors

Shelby American has announced changes in available options for the 2013 Shelby GT350. One key change is that Shelby American will be limiting the production of the 2013 GT350 to only 350 units constructed at its Las Vegas facility. Buyers of the 2013 model year car will get a lot more color options to choose from.

Shelby American is now offering the GT350 in all colors available from Ford on the Mustang. In 2011, the first year for the GT350, the car was only available in white with blue stripes. In 2012, the car was available in red, blue, and a black/gold version and a convertible option was added. For 2013, users can pick from nine different colors.

Buyers will also get an option on stripe color between satin black and gloss white. Buyers of white or silver GT350s will also have the option to choose azure blue metallic stripes. Buyers can also start from a 2013 Mustang that uses the glass roof option, and choose Recaro seats, and a modified custom rear valance. The 2013 Shelby GT350 is far from cheap starting at $26,995 for naturally aspirated version, and $33,995 for supercharged version. That dollar amount is for the conversion only. Buyers have to provide the car at approximately another $34,000 depending on options.

Ford introduces new technologies to address traffic, parking stress, and other mobility challenges

In a move to address traffic jams and other mobility-related challenges that come with urbanization, Ford is introducing new technologies that aims to help future drivers. The company’s new technologies can be summarized into four core parts – Workload Estimation, Biometric Seat, Perpendicular Parking, and Traffic Jam Assist. Traffic Jam Assist is an intelligent driving technology that reportedly uses radar and camera technology to help a vehicle keep pace with other vehicles in traffic and provide automated steering control to stay in the current lane, hence, reducing driver stress. 2013 Ford Taurus gets EPA certified best in class fuel economy

It seems like every time you drive by the gas station, prices are going up. That means fuel economy is one of the biggest concerns of most people when they’re shopping for a new vehicle. It used to be when buying a new car if you wanted lots of fuel efficiency; you had to buy something small. That’s no longer the case with larger midsized vehicles such as the 2013 Ford Taurus that get excellent fuel economy.

Ford is talking about the 2013 Taurus, and the fact that it has EPA certified fuel economy with its new 2-liter EcoBoost engine of 32 mpg. The 32 mpg rating makes the new Taurus the most fuel-efficient vehicle in its class. That 2-liter EcoBoost engine is more fuel-efficient than the V6 versions of the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry while offering comparable power output.

All three available engines in the Taurus are rated for 25 mpg or higher. Other available engines include the base, 3.5-liter V6 engine and the Taurus SHO engine. The SHO uses the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 producing 365 HP and 350 pound-foot of torque. Even the powerful SHO engine can deliver 25 mpg on highway. Ford is also using electric power-assisted steering and aggressive deceleration fuel shutoff along with other tech to make the cars more efficient. The 2013 Taurus will hit dealer showrooms this summer.
