Formula One Speaker Dock looks too good to be used

f1-speaker-dockThere are iPhone speaker docks, and then there are iPhone speaker docks. The $8,500 Formula One Speaker Dock would definitely fall into the latter category, where the entire iPhone speaker dock has been made from a material that is not easily found – that is, using the exhaust manifold of a Formula One race car that is no longer in used. This particular iPhone speaker dock has been specially crafted in Modena, Italy, which is the city which many have already touted to be the cradle of Italian race car innovation.

It uses either left or right manifold of a retired eight-cylinder F1 engine of your choice, where among them would include a 1978 Cosworth DFV, 2006 Renault RS26, and 2007 Ferrari 056, among others. Within the openings of the manifold’s four headpipes, there will be neodymium magnets, a couple of silk-dome, 70-watt tweeters and two PPM-cone, 70-watt mid-range speakers each in order to deliver clear highs and mids. At the end of the manifold’s collector tube, you will find a doped-paper cone 140-watt active subwoofer that is being driven by a high-density flux ferrite which will pump out booming bass. This particular iPhone speaker dock will play nice only with iPhones and iPods with 30-pin connectors.

McLaren MP4-12C: The Street Legal Car with Formula 1 Tech

I have to admit that the McLaren F1 was a masterpiece in engineering, and it looked pretty awesome too. Though it took McLaren almost a decade before unveiling their production car that was wholly designed and built by the company.

The McLaren MP4-12C has a carbon fiber composite chassis and it is powered by a mid-mounted McLaren M838T 3.8L V8 engine, which has twin turbos. It produces 616HP and the car uses Formula 1-sourced tech to make it that much faster than other sports cars. It uses something called brake steer, which means that when the inside rear wheel is braked in fast corners, there’s a system to reduce understeer.

Like all supercars, the MP4-12C isn’t cheap. You’ll have to shell out at least $239,400(USD) to get yours.

Of Course Formula One Drivers Stay Fit With a Car-Shaped Exercise Machine

Professional race drivers spend hours in a car battling excessive G-forces, and so require just as much training and physical fitness as an athlete running up and down a field. Sony axing Liverpool game studio, ends Psygnosis 28year history

Sony has confirmed that it’s shuttering Studio Liverpool, more famously known as Psygnosis. The publisher was founded in 1984 and is responsible for a legion of best-selling titles including Lemmings, Colony Wars, Destruction Derby, Wipeout and the Formula One games. In a statement, the company said that after a review of its “commercially viable” projects, it’s focusing on projects in other parts of the business — after slashing the studio’s remit in a cost-cutting exercise in 2010. The facility is also the location of the company’s European Quality Assurance team, which will reportedly remain in operation.
