Has civilization got you down? Ever wanted to leave this culture behind and start over? Now you can. Producers have issued a casting call for Utopia, a new reality show that is pretty much exactly what you think it is—15 strangers, picked to live on a farm and build their own society from scratch.
SunViewer posted this amazing photo by Vladimir Scheglov, taken on January 19 at the Kupol mine in the Chukotka region of Russia, just after a Coronal Mass Ejection hit Earth to produce some beautiful northern lights. He’s like "whatevs, I will just chillax and look cute here."
Magic: The Gathering fans have something to get excited about now. It looks like Fox is adapting the game into a film. According to THR, “20th Century Fox has closed a deal to acquire the screen rights to the hugely popular fantasy card game from Hasbro and will develop the property with an eye to launch a massive franchise on the scale of Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings.”
More good news is that it’s going to have some hands-on involvement from Wizards of the Coast president Greg Leeds and Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner. So that should be a good thing, though I can’t help but have the feeling that this could be just another terrible game franchise adaptation. Anyone who has been around the block knows what I mean.
Fox producer Simon Kinberg, who worked on both the X-Men and Fantastic Four universes, will work closely with Hasbro in developing the franchise, so hopefully that will help.

Fox has recently announced that they will be developing a new mobile game which will be based on the extremely popular TV series, Family Guy. This particular title is set to be released some time next year, and Fox will be partnering with mobile game developer TinyCo. I guess it is a good thing that the folks over at TinyCo have just picked up around $20 million in funding, as that ought to help them continue their work without any worries about not having enough money. The Family Guy mobile game will not be a game with just Family Guy characters thrown into the mix, but rather, it will come with its very own story line.
It remains to be seen as to just how much of the material will be inspired by the 200 plus episodes of Family Guy that have already been shown off on TV. When you think about it, next year would mark the 15th anniversary of the show, so perhaps this Family Guy mobile game is being worked upon so that it can celebrate this particular milestone. Needless to say, the game itself will be set in the town of Quahog, where all of the beloved characters will feature in it. Will Brian Griffin, the family pet, make it into the game? After all, he was he was killed off from the show recently. Only time will tell. One thing’s for sure, such a game might not seem as though it deserves the Kazuyo experience.

Hulu offers a few fall premieres from Fox, ABC and NBC online before they air
Posted in: Today's ChiliIt’s pumpkin spice latte season, and that can only mean one thing: fall TV premieres are right around the corner. Thankfully, Hulu (like several other providers, if you have cable or satellite just take a look at your video on-demand menu) is once again letting you get the jump on your water cooler gossip by offering an early look at a few new and returning shows from ABC, NBC and Fox in advance of their television air dates. So, if you’ve been suffering from severe withdrawal from The Mindy Project (now with 100% more James Franco) or been intrigued by the overripe nostalgia of The Goldbergs, you’re in luck. Also available on Hulu right now are new episodes of Back in the Game, Trophy Wife, Ironside and Welcome to the Family. To get into the spirit of premiere season, follow the source link below.

Fox Sports 1 comes to ‘all major distributors’ Saturday, mobile app on hold
Posted in: Today's ChiliSaturday morning at 6AM Speed TV turns out the lights for the last time as Fox replaces it with a new 24-hour sports channel: Fox Sports 1 (FYI: Fuel TV will become Fox Sports 2, and FXX launches September 2nd as the new home of Always Sunny, The League and Totally Biased). Why? Because every network needs its own sports channel to fill out the package, like Disney / ABC including ESPN and Comcast / NBC Universal’s NBC Sports. Negotiations this week wrapped up last-minute deals with holdouts DirecTV, Dish and Time Warner Cable, ensuring the channel will be available on all “major” distributors (about 90 million homes) across the country. What isn’t quite ready for prime time is the accompanying Fox Sports Go app, its attempt at a TV Everywhere experience akin to WatchESPN and NBC Sports Live Extra. Rep Chris Bellitti tells Variety that “one of the most complex TV Everywhere apps ever created” just needs a little tweaking before it arrives on the web, iOS and Android. It will have live streaming video, plus scores, news and more for sports fans. You can check after the break for a list of the content FS1 will carry — UFC: Shogun vs. Sonnen caps Day 1 — and a preview trailer, or hit the link below to doublecheck its channel on local providers.

What good is an EV racing league like Formula E if there’s no way to watch it? Not much, which is why the FIA has reached a deal making Fox Sports the official Formula E broadcaster. The agreement gives Fox a US exclusive for TV coverage as well as a mixture of exclusive and non-exclusive rights (including online content) in over 80 regions. We won’t know if Fox is truly ready for the job until the first Formula E race begins in September 2014, but it won’t be hard to tune in.

When Avatar hit theaters in 2009 it was notable not only for its incredible computer rendered special effects and record breaking box office returns, but also as a touchstone for a resurgence of 3D movies. Now 20th Century Fox and director James Cameron have announced plans to build out a quadrilogy of Avatar movies. Screenwriters Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Shane Salerno and Josh Friedman are all on board to collaborate on the screenplays for movies 2, 3 and 4, which will be produced by Cameron and Jon Landau’s Lightstorm Entertainment. Avatar 2 is scheduled to hit theaters in December 2016, with the other movies following in 2017 and 2018. WETA remains on hand to produce the special effects, we’ll see what advancements in technology (Jim’s in love with high framerates but The Hobbit didn’t garner a universally positive response) allow them to create this time around and if audiences come out in similar numbers — hopefully the 3D Blu-ray (or whatever format is around) doesn’t take so long to arrive at retail this time.

Apparently it’s the season for issues between networks and pay-TV distributors, as Dish Network customers in 36 networks are missing some of their local channels as of late last night. Dish and Raycom Media has failed to reach an agreement, so stations the network owns including ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, CW and MyNetworkTV stations in 36 markets stretching from Cincinnati to Honolulu have gone dark. There’s a full list after the break of which ones, and as usual both sides are claiming the other is to blame for not wanting to reach a fair agreement. Your guess is as good as ours as to when the tiff will be resolved, however so far, unlike CBS vs. Time Warner Cable neither side is suggesting Aereo as a replacement.
