Netflix confirms 14 new Arrested Development episodes, the Bluth family returns to screens this May

If you asked Netflix, it’d probably agree there’s more money to be had from the Bluth Family’s banana stand — after all, it did buy the exclusive rights to it. After months of waiting and anticipation, the company has confirmed that the fourth season of Arrested Development will arrive in May. This run of the revived sitcom will consist of 14 episodes in total, all of which will only be streamable from the house of Hastings servers. All we can hope for in the meantime is that, Maeby maybe, just maybe, a certain Gob Bluth will finally get his act together.

Soundmatters foxL DASH7 Bluetooth Speaker Slips into Your Pocket

I’ll admit that I wasn’t sold on the idea of portable Bluetooth speakers until someone actually gave me one and I tried it out for a couple of days. Since then, I use it almost everyday. Soundmatters is adding another portable speaker to their range, the DASH7, as part of their CES 2013 lineup.

The Soundmatters foxL DASH7 is pocket-friendly, so when you don’t use it, you can just stash it in your coat.  It only weighs 200g, stands about 18mm high, and comes with a compact stand for adjusting its angle. It’s also short enough when laid flat to fit in front of a tablet in a stand without blocking the screen.

It’s supposed to provide omni-directional sound when aimed upwards, but directional sound when placed on its stand. It can also connect to the Soundmatters foxLo subwoofer, if you want a little extra low-end thump. It’ll even work as a speakerphone when paired with a compatible smartphone, and has a built in microphone.

The DASH7 will be available in red, white, black and silver between late January and late February 2013. It will retail for $249(USD) but you can pre-order it for $219, and also save $13 on shipping.

Fox Answers Lost iPhone, Sends Text Message

Humans are always trying to push the boundaries and extend technology, even in places where they don’t belong and to species who shouldn’t have to deal with them in the first place. Case in point: Lars and his fox texting experiment.

fox text messagesWhat Norwegian teenager Lars Andreas Bjercke did was download an app that imitated the sound of rabbits in order to attract foxes. Then he left the phone in his yard and let the app do all the work. Sure enough, a fox came around and kept circling the phone for a couple of nights. Eventually, he made off the phone – presumably, never to be seen or heard from again.

But here’s the thing. Lars called the phone later and surprisingly, the fox picked up.

“There was a crackling sound and some noise,” Lars told Verdens Gang.

It gets even weirder, because aside from taking calls, the fox apparently knows how to send messages too.

The next day, Lars’s friend wondered why he had sent him the odd text message. The message was in strange letters and numbers. Lars knew that the sender was the fox.

“jlv I ø\a0ab 34348tu åaugjoi zølbmosdji jsøg ijio sjiw,” it said in the message. Clearly, that’s fox-speak for “4G coverage isn’t very good out here in the woods.”

Google Fiber installations begin, come with a larger TV channel choice in the bargain (video)

Google Fiber installations begin, come with more TV channels in the bargain video

A lot of readers in the two Kansas Cities are about to see the above sign taped to their door, and they’ll be forgiven if it triggers an irrational level of excitement: it’s the confirmation that Google Fiber deployments are at last underway. Starting this week in the Hanover Heights district of Kansas state’s city, Google is extending fiber drops to the homes of early adopters and arranging for in-home appointments to set up whatever internet and IPTV selections they’ve made. The fiber team is also widening its pick of TV channels as a last-minute incentive, offering a slew of Fox sports and movie channels as well as Fuel TV, FX, National Geographic and Speed, among others. While we don’t know how long it will take before the first wave of 1Gbps deployments are wrapped up, it should finally be safe to add “internet service provider” to Google’s increasingly lengthy resume.

Prometheus Blu-ray specs unveiled, arrives with seven hours of extras October 9th (video)

Prometheus Bluray specs unveiled, arrives with seven hours of extras October 9th video

While Ridley Scott’s latest flick is already available on just about every downloadable movie store you could name, Prometheus is still a few weeks away from making its debut on disc and now Fox has officially released all the details. The extras listed in an earlier leak appear to be accurate, with a Second Screen iPad app that promises access to character Peter Weyland’s archives, while much of the 15 minutes or so of deleted and alternative scenes have already been posted on the internet (search around if you absolutely must know what else there is and can’t wait / don’t want to spend the cash). Arriving October 9th, there’s a four disc set with both a Blu-ray 3D edition and bonus extras disc with featurettes for a total of seven hours of bonus materials, while the two disc set trims it to just one Blu-ray and DVD / digital copy. The two disc set is currently selling for $24.99 on Amazon, while the four disc edition bumps the price another $5. A trailer with a peek at some of those extras and the full list of details awaits after the break, but an explanation for why anyone would ever try to touch some weird alien snake is something you’ll have to find on your own.

Fox Broadcast app now available to Xbox Live customers with Dish and FiOS subscriptions

FOX Broadcast app now available to Xbox Live customer with Dish and FiOS subscriptions

Xbox Live frontman Larry Hryb (aka Major Nelson) took to his blog on Tuesday to announce that Dish and Verizon FiOS customers can now download the Fox Broadcast app for Xbox 360 to stream next-day Fox programming. In order to use this free app, you’ll need a paid Xbox Live Gold subscription. In addition to keeping you up to date with recent episodes of Fringe and Family Guy, this new app also includes access to legacy series such as House and 24. Like most things Xbox, the Fox Broadcasting app features Kinect integration, because everything is “better with Kinect,” right?

Fox kicks off its Digital HD initiative by joining Google Play and YouTube, offering movies early

Google Play and YouTube add Fox movies and TV shows, use Prometheus as a lure

Fox embraced a radical thought when it outlined its Digital HD initiative earlier this month: customers are more likely to buy digital movies if the content isn’t artificially delayed and priced to match the releases on conventional discs. The studio is about to see if that gamble on common sense pays off. As of today, you’ll find 600-plus Fox movies ready to buy or rent in HD across every major digital video store in the US, with many downloads cleared to arrive ahead of their physical counterparts at lower prices that reflect a disc-free reality. The media giant has also decided to play nicely with Google after a longstanding absence, putting its movies and TV shows on Google Play Movies and YouTube. Its tentpole movie release Prometheus is unsurprisingly being used as the prime incentive to try Digital HD; the title is available online three weeks before the Blu-ray launch at a more reasonable $15 price. The sci-fi thriller is even Fox’s first movie destined for UltraViolet cloud lockers. Only Americans will have expanded access to movies and TV at first, but it shouldn’t be too long before many countries can be creeped out by Michael Fassbender’s android — including on their Android devices.
