Crytek Warface Free-to-Play FPS Launches: If It’s Free, It’s for Me

I’m a big fan of all of Crytek’s FPS video games. The thing I don’t like about buying new video games is that they can get a little expensive at about $60 each. Crytek has announced that its new and free to play FPS video game is now available called Warface. That’s right, a free to play Crytek quality videogame for PC gamers.

Crytek says that Warface has AAA production values and all of the quality expected from the studio even though it’s free. The game is playable directly in PC browsers and has both cooperative and competitive game modes. The game also has four soldier classes and places a special emphasis on teamwork.

Despite the game being free, Crytek also promises that the game will be constantly updated to provide fresh challenges. The game is now available in North America, Europe, and Turkey. It’s also available localized in English, French, German, and Turkish languages. Support for additional languages is coming in future.

Of course, nothing is completely free, and you can expect there to be many upgrades and add-ons available for a fee. Let’s hope the game isn’t one of those “pay to win” situations.

Scale FPS Lets You Change Sizes of Objects: Honey, I Shrunk or Blew up the Things!

First-person shooters have come a long way from simple shooting and jumping. And shooting. While conventional shooters are still popular, in recent years we’ve seen first-person shooter games with different kinds of shooting. There are games that let you shoot portals, a game that lets you shoot pictures and even a game that lets you shoot clones of yourself. Now we have Scale, a game where you shoot rays that enlarge or shrink objects.

Scale is a game for Windows, OS X and Linux. It’s currently being made by indie developer CubeHeart. The game puts you in an open world and has you manipulating the sizes of objects to solve puzzles and progress. As you’ll see in the video below you can even shrink an entire level. The basic constraint is that you have to “suck the size” out of one object before you can enlarge another.

Perhaps the only thing about Scale that’s crazier than its mechanic is its story. You play a “young physics savant” named Penny Prince, who invented the size-changing gun. Unfortunately she accidentally destroyed the East Coast, leading to the demise of 9,322,591 people (yep, CubeHeart specified that). Also someone took her cat. But with your help Penny may be able to redeem herself and find her cat.

Help CubeHeart enlarge its funding by pledging for Scale on Kickstarter. A pledge of at least $10 (USD) gets you a DRM-free copy of the game as a reward.

Fan Made Titanfall Titan Mech Action Figure: That Was Fast

Titanfall is an upcoming online multiplayer FPS for the Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC. It seems to be one of the better launch titles for the Xbox One, putting an emphasis on agility and speed while rockin’ some sweet-looking mecha. A Japanese custom toy maker appears to have the same strengths. He managed to make a replica of the game’s giant robot, even though the game isn’t out yet.

I could very well be mistaken, but I’m guessing the toy maker uses the moniker nammkkyys. What I gleaned from his blog is that he based his replica on the publicly available trailers and images of Titanfall, as well as the large Titan bust that was shown at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. What makes his feat even more impressive is that he made it from scratch; it’s not a mod of an existing action figure. I think he took a few liberties here and there, but overall he did a great job. The action figure is about 9.5″ tall, which by the toy maker’s estimate makes it a 1/30 scale replica.

Check out nammkkyys’ blog for more images of the impressive Titan action figure. Be sure to check his previous posts to see his work in progress images; those will give you a better idea of his skill and dedication. Seeing as Respawn Entertainment i.e. Titanfall’s developer itself was the one who spread the word about nammkkyys’ work, I wouldn’t be surprised if he scores a free copy of the game for his work.

Bungie to offer Destiny beta access as early pre-order perk

Destiny

We’ve all seen the demo, but none of us have actually played Destiny, Bungie and publisher Activision’s forthcoming first-person-shooter / MMO-like effort. But starting today, Destiny‘s persistent open world will begin opening up… to gamers that buy in early, that is. A limited amount of pre-orders placed now at select retailers will garner gamers beta access to Destiny, which is scheduled to launch early next year on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. If you happened to jump the gun and plunk down for a copy before today, don’t worry, as your order automatically reserves you a spot for the beta. Depending on your method of purchase, redemption codes will either be emailed directly or printed out at the time of purchase, so hold off on trashing those receipts. You can find the full details of the program and a new trailer just after the break.

If Going to a Party Was Like Playing a Video Game

Let’s face it, for some gamers going to a party is harder than playing a video game. And for partiers, playing video games is harder than partying. So what if we combined the two worlds and made a video game just for partying? It’d be a lot tougher than you think. Balancing getting drunk, meeting people, hanging with your friends, finding someone to hook up with and having a good time… without making mistakes. More »
