Fujifilm X-T1 Spotted In Japanese Newspaper

Fujifilm X T1 Spotted In Japanese NewspaperPhotographers who are on the lookout for a new camera might be interested to learn that Fujifilm might have a new camera to announce later on this month. According to the rumors, Fujifilm is expected to announce their new Fuji X-T1 camera on the 28th of January 2014, and now thanks to a sighting in the Japanese newspapers, an image of the X-T1 has somehow made its way into publication despite not having been formally announced. The photo does not show much unfortunately and attempts to zoom in have resulted in a rather blurred and pixelated image.

In the meantime for those wondering what sort of specifications we might be able to expect, the rumors have suggested that the camera will be weather sealed for starters, making it a great camera for the outdoors. It has also been rumored to sport a bigger and better EVF compared to previous models, a 16MP APS-C X-Trans sensor II, 8fps with AF tracking shooting, support for UHS-II SD memory card that allows for fast writing speeds, and will be designed to resemble the Fujica ST which is a retro-ish sort of look, something we’re sure old school photographers might remember fondly. Take it with a grain of salt for now but check back with us on the 28th of January for the details!

Fujifilm's Instax Printer Turns Phone Snaps Into Instant Film Photos

This is just like plain old word wrap, except that it works with photos video

If you regularly snap pages of hardcopy text on your smartphone for perusing later, then an Android app being developed by Fujifilm may just tick your literary boxes. Called GT-Layout, it automatically carves up a photo containing text so that each character becomes a separate image. These sub-images can then be reformatted with line breaks to fit your screen area and preferred level of zoom — so you don’t have to pinch and pan so much and there’s no need for OCR. Want to try it? Then you’ll have to wait. GT-Layout is reportedly coming in an update to Fujifilm’s Dropbox client, GT-Document Lite, but there’s no sign of it appearing there just yet.

IRL: Fujifilm X-Pro1, Garmin Edge 200 and Otterbox’s Universal Defender case, revisited

Welcome to IRL, an ongoing feature where we talk about the gadgets, apps and toys we’re using in real life and take a second look at products that already got the formal review treatment.

If we’ve never explained where the idea for IRL came from, now might be as good a time as any. Our own Tim Stevens, a car nut in his own right and a one-time auto editor for Engadget, wanted to test gadgets the way auto mags do vehicles. That is to say, on an ongoing basis, over a long period of time. That mission rings particularly true this week: Jon’s taken hundreds of test shots with Fujifilm’s X-Pro1, Terrence has been commuting with the Garmin Edge 200 cycling monitor and Brian has owned the Otterbox Universal Defender case so long that he’s actually taking back the praise he gave in a prior IRL. All that and more after the break.
