Fujitsu’s Arrows V F-04E launches with 4.7-inch display, fingerprint scanner, lust for ramen

When Mr. Fujitsu was designing the Arrows V F-04E for NTT DoCoMo’s winter lineup, he probably wrote “ALL THE FEATURES” and knocked-off early. That might explain the pile of tech nestled beneath that 4.7-inch, 1,280 x 720 display — including 64GB Storage, a 13.1-megapixel camera, NFC, 2,420mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner. The Tegra 3-powered handset also comes with Fujitsu’s Human Centric Engine, which, like all J-Phones, promises a few quasi sci-fi features like calibrating the display to be comfortable for your age. It’s also water-and-dust resistant and you’ll be able to watch 1-Seg broadcasts while on the Bullet Train — the perfect combination to make westerners feel jealous.

Sharp ships its first phone with an IGZO display on November 29th, ushers in a low-power LCD era

Sharp Aquos Phone Zeta SH-02E

The gray clouds of Sharp’s gloomy earnings are about to get a silver lining: NTT DoCoMo is at last launching Sharp’s new flagship phone, the breathlessly worded Aquos Phone Zeta SH-02E, on November 29th. When it arrives, the SH-02E will be its* first smartphone to carry an IGZO-based display and show us just how well the high-brightness, low-energy invention fares in a 4.9-inch, 720p LCD. There’s no known fixed pricing, although it’s likely the Android 4.0 device will be sitting at the very top of its Japanese carrier’s range through its Snapdragon S4 Pro, 16-megapixel camera and LTE data. Not fully convinced of IGZO’s worth? Fujitsu’s more conventional Arrows V F-04E is arriving a day earlier with a regular LCD and a Tegra 3, although we’d say that it’s worth waiting the extra 24 hours to be a technology vanguard.

Update: While the SH-02E was the first phone announced with an IGZO LCD screen, it’s been beaten to the market by ASUS’ Padfone 2, which is also rocking the new technology.

Fujitsu Develops World’s First Super-Wide-Angle 3D Laser Radar with a Horizontal and Vertical Range of 140 Degrees

Fujitsu Laboratories Limited today announced that it has developed a super-wide-angle 3D laser radar with more than double the range (140 degrees both horizontally and vertically) of conventional radars.
Ultrasonic wave sensors are already in commercial use in systems that support vehicle parking, for example, to assist drivers when the car is backing into a parking space. However, the detection range is narrow, and multiple sensors were required to widen the area of visibility around a car. …

Fujitsu Stylistic Q572 arrives at the FCC

Folks over at the FCC have had the recent pleasure of looking through the Fujitsu Stylistic Q572, making sure that it will meet all kinds of criteria set by the body before being declared as safe, good and ready to hit the US market in due time. Just a refresher, the Fujitsu Stylistic Q572 is a 10” tablet that will target the business and enterprise markets, shipping with the much anticipated Windows 8 operating system, sporting an AMD Z-60 Hondo processor underneath the hood.

There is still no word on pricing or availability, but since it has already received the nod of approval by the FCC, you know for sure it is primed and ready to rock and roll Stateside. The AMD Z-60 1GHz dual-core processor ought to provide enough processing muscle to get it going, accompanied by a Radeon HD 6250 graphics chipset for HD video and 3D graphics acceleration. It measures 10.8″ x 6.9″ x 0.55″ and tips the scales at approximately 1.5 pounds, sporting a dual-digitizer, letting you use a digital pen or your fingers if you want to use the touchscreen display.

Other hardware specifications include a USB 3.0 port, a USB 2.0 port, HDMI, Ethernet, and an SDXC memory card reader, not to mention Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. Want some portable data connectivity without being at the mercy of an available WiFi hotspot? Not a problem – there is a SIM card slot for that.

Fujitsu unveils Floral Kiss laptops – designed for women, by women

Computers are computers and can be used by both men and women alike, but apparently Fujitsu thinks that there is a distinction and has recently announced a range of laptops that was designed for women, by women. Dubbed the Floral Kiss these laptops have apparently been designed for women in mind not just in terms of more feminine colors, but in terms of the design of the laptop itself where the flip latch which opens the display has been created with long fingernails taken into consideration. Fujitsu’s Windows 8 range for Japan includes eyeball-controlled Esprimo FH98/JD all-in-one

Fujitsu's Windows 8 range for Japan includes eyeballcontrolled Esprimo FH98JD allinone

In addition to its gender-obsessed Floral Kiss range, Fujitsu has announced a gabble of Windows 8 form factors for its Japanese clientele. One of the more curious additions is the Esprimo FH98/JD all-in-one PC, which lets you pan across Microsoft’s new UI using the very same eye-tracking technology we played with at CEATEC. There’s also a slightly refreshed version of the 14-inch FMV Lifebook UH75 last seen running Windows 7 at CeBIT, which persists in its claim to be the “world’s thinnest Ultrabook” at 15.6mm. Two more Lifebooks make similar promises in their respective non-Ultrabook weight categories — the 13.3-inch SH76/J and the 15.6-inch AH78/JA, which both stretch to around 20mm at their thickest points. At the back of the convoy comes the 10-inch waterproof Arrows Tab Wi-Fi, which was already draped in Windows 8 colors when we went hands-on a few weeks back. It’s mostly academic unless you’ll be in Japan after October 26th, but the source link has plenty more pics and specs.

Fujitsu Esprimo X913-T multitouch Windows 8 AIO packs ultrasonics

Fujitsu’s Windows 8 touchscreen strategy isn’t solely centered on tablets; the company also has a 23-inch all-in-one PC, the Esprimo X913-T, which uses ultrasonics to figure out if you’re paying attention. The desktop offers Intel Core i3-3220T or Core i5-3470T processors and up to 16GB of memory, as well as a 1920 x 1080 display with 10-point multitouch for navigating through Windows 8′s Live Tile UI.

Storage is courtesy of up to a 750GB 5,400rpm HDD, or alternatively a 320GB 7,200rpm drive or 128GB SSD, with Intel HD graphics. Connectivity includes audio in, audio out, four USB 3.0, two USB 2.0, DVI, and gigabit ethernet, with WiFi an option along with a webcam and microphones.

As for the ultrasonics, Fujitsu has equipped the Esprimo X913-T with a sensor that uses reflected soundwaves to figure out if there’s someone in front of the screen. Then, like Samsung Smart Stay on the Galaxy S III, the display stays active even if nobody touches the keyboard, mouse, or touchscreen, but automatically locks when the user moves away. Facial recognition with the webcam can speed up the unlocking process too.

The 23-inch display is posable, and can be laid completely flat for those times you want to pretend you have a SUR40 multitouch table. No word on pricing at this stage, but Fujitsu says the Esprimo X913-T will go on sale from Windows 8′s launch next week.
