The Fujitsu Stylistic Q552 Windows tablet is a successor to the previously released Stylistic Q550. Available in a 32GB or a 64GB of storage space, the new tablet features a 10-inch IPS display with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution, a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N2600 Cedar Trail processor, an Intel GMA 3600 graphics, a 2GB RAM and an SDcard slot. The gadget also provides several connectivity options such as USB 2.0, HDMI and Bluetooth 4.0. Other specs include a front-facing camera for Skype video calls and a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera. Too bad, there is no info on pricing or availability at this moment. [Liliputing]
When it comes to the tablet market, the two main operating systems would be Android from Google and iOS from Apple. Microsoft’s Windows? Well, let us say that it has yet to make an impact, although the upcoming Microsoft Surface tablet does seem to throw the race wide open yet again. However, in the mean time, we will just have to be placated with Windows 7 running on tablets. Case in point, the Fujitsu Stylistic Q552 which will see off last year’s model, the Stylistic Q550, by sporting an Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, the Intel GMA 3600 graphics chipset that does HD video playback, a 1280 x 800 pixel IPS display with a 160 degree viewing angle, a capacitive touchscreen display, and an active digitizer and digital pen.
Budget-permitting, you will be able to select from either a 32GB or 64GB solid state drive, where the Q552 will be accompanied by 2GB RAM, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, USB 2.0 support, an HDMI connector, and an SD memory card slot. Want to carry out video calls on Skype with this? Not a problem, thanks to the front-facing VGA camera and a 3-megapixel camera with auto-focus located right on the back.

While there are a number of ways to make existing smartphones more accessible for the elderly, there are very few on the market designed specifically with them in mind. There’s devices like the Jitterbug, but they’re not particularly “smart.” Fujitsu’s latest entrant in its RakuRaku line, however, is loaded with friendly features and hardware designed specifically with the elderly in mind — and it runs Android. When it lands in Japan this August it’ll sport a customized UI with large text and oversized virtual buttons. Even the few physical buttons are large and easy to operate for those whose agility may be waning. The screen is even able to distinguish between accidental touches and purposeful taps. To see the device in action check out the video after the break.

Fujitsu intros RakuRaku accessible smartphone for the elderly originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 17 Jul 2012 20:53:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds.
Japanese electronics firm Fujitsu unveiled a new smartphone yesterday designed for elderly users, featuring a unique touchscreen and Android user interface that’s been simplified. Called the F-12D from Fujitsu’s RakuRaku product line where “rakuraku” can be translated from Japanese to mean “easy” or “comfortable,” the company will primarily be aiming to target Japan’s aging population with this particular model.
Fujitsu said that it had worked directly with Google to design a phone that would prevent elderly users from becoming overwhelmed or confused while using it. The simplified user interface features larger text and buttons and only vertical scrolling to make everything as easy as possible.
The touchscreen has also been given a makeover and was specifically made for first-time users who aren’t yet used to the technology. Tests by Fujitsu revealed that many elderly users experienced difficulty and frustration trying to use a typical touchscreen on any other smartphone, which is why the touchscreen on the F-12D has been built to give way a little when pressed, which resembles the feeling of pressing down on an actual button.
Fujitsu admitted it was eager to bring the phone to foreign markets in the future. It will be available for sale in Japan in early August under NTT DoCoMo, Japan’s biggest operator.

NICT and Fujitsu Develop Indoor Guidance Technology for the Blind Using Ultra Wide Band Positioning, Smartphones
Posted in: Today's ChiliNICT and Fujitsu are working together to develop a real-time indoor guidance system for the blind. As GPS cannot be used to get positional data indoors, the system uses a smartphone and ultra wide band (UWB) transmission technology to get accurate real-time position information.
Impulse radio UWB technology uses extremely short nanosecond long pulses to get positioning information. Base stations are used to track the position of the user and their target point, with positioning accuracy within …

Fujitsu has today unveiled two new laptops in its range. The first is a laptop and tablet hybrid dubbed the Stylistic Q702, while the second is a convertible laptop (remember those?) called the LifeBook T902. The Stylistic Q702 is constructed from a magnesium shell that weighs around 850 grams, doubling as a laptop when inserted into the keyboard dock which also provides extra battery life.
It’s on the large side at 11.6-inches, but features an LED backlit 1366×768 display and a Core i3 or i5 Ivy Bridge processor. 4GB of RAM comes as standard with the tablet, and you can configure the hard drive up to a 256GB SSD. Graphics are handled by the integrated Intel HD 4000 GPU, and there’s USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports as well as HDMI output and an SD card slot. Once you dock the tablet into the keyboard, you get an extra 4-cell battery as well as an Ethernet jack and VGA output.
The LifeBook T902, meanwhile, features a 13.3-inch 1600×900 display with Gorilla Glass. Inside is an Intel Ivy Bridge Core i5 or Core i7 processor, and up to 16GB of RAM. The default hard drive is a 320GB offering, although you can configure up to a 256GB SSD. The laptop includes two USB 3.0 ports and a single USB 2.0 port, HDMI output, VGA, Ethernet, an SD card slot, and the option for 3G or 4G connectivity depending on the market. A 1080p webcam can also be configured, with battery rated for around 7 hours and 40 minutes.
The Stylistic Q702 and LifeBook T902 should both be available sometime in the third quarter, with the Q702 starting from $1,099 and the T902 at $1,899. Both will be running Windows 7 when they ship, but can be upgraded to Windows 8 without any issues.

Fujitsu does tablet hybrids now
Posted in: Today's ChiliYes, we do know that Fujitsu has introduced a build-it yourself PC service recently, and here we are with word that the Japanese company has unveiled another two more convertible tablet PCs to the masses, where they are known as the Stylistic Q702 and the Lifebook T902 with the latter being seen as above. These are not exactly mainstream consumer electronics devices, as they have been optimized for vertical markets – which will include healthcare and education sectors. First announced at Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference in Toronto, Canada, they will roll out with Windows 7 as the operating system of choice, although you can be sure that the next generation Windows 8 operating system will run just fine, too. Fujitsu unveils the Stylistic Q702 hybrid tablet and the LifeBook T902 convertible laptop
Posted in: Today's ChiliBack at Computex last month we saw dozens of Windows 8-ready Ultrabooks on display: sliding-ones, touchscreen ones, foldable ones. Curiously, though, there were virtually none aimed at businesses — you know, one of Microsoft’s key customer groups. Today, though, Fujitsu is unveiling not one, but two devices aimed at the corporate crowd: the Stylistic Q702 laptop/tablet hybrid and the LifeBook T902, a convertible laptop.
Starting with the Q702, it’s an 11.6-inch tablet that works with an optional keyboard dock and also supports pen input. Yes, that’s a form factor we know all too well at this point, but this one at least manages to differentiate itself with business-friendly features like TPM, Intel Anti-Theft technology, Computrace support and built-in WWAN and LTE connectivity (so far, we know AT&T, Verizon and Sprint will be on board). Under the hood, it runs Ivy Bridge processors (Core i3 or i5) with 4GB of RAM and an SSD with up to 128GB of storage space. As you’d expect of an 11.6-inch Windows tablet, the resolution is 1,366 x 768, though Fujitsu also added Gorilla Glass coating and ratcheted the brightness up to 400 nits. On its own, the 1.88-pound tablet is rated for 4.5 hours of runtime (the dock adds an extra 5.5). Speaking of which, in addition to a built-in battery, the dock adds two USB 2.0 / 3.0 ports, Ethernet jack and VGA.
Moving on, the LifeBook T902 replaces this guy with a higher-res 13-inch Gorilla Glass display (1,600 x 900 this time) and is powered by Ivy Bridge processors (i5 and i7 chips, to be precise). Inside that 4.1-pound body you can cram up to 16GB of RAM, along with optional WWAN or LTE radios. It’s also home to a modular bay, which you can use to add a spare battery or hard drive, or maybe even an optical drive. Fujitsu rates the battery life at up to 11 hours, but that’s assuming you go ahead and buy that second battery. Here, too, you’ll find security features like TPM and Computrace support, but unlike the Q702 tablet it adds a fingerprint sensor and IT-friendly vPro chips.
The Q702 and T902 will both ship with Windows 7, but are naturally upgradeable to Win8. Look for both to arrive sometime in the third quarter, with the Q702 hybrid starting at $1,099 and the T902 going for $1,899 and up. Full PR after the break, along with a press shot of the convertible.

Although most big PC companies seem to be against the whole building your own custom computer idea, with the exception of allowing you to customize a couple of features that they have pre-selected, Fujitsu has decided to go against that notion with its new Hands-on Custom PC Assembly Service.
