Loccit Puts All Your Social Networking Activities in Print

I used to keep a diary until I realized that I was just copying down events and things I said about my day from my social media accounts. Not that I share personal details or too much information online. However, I have realized that it’s easier to sum up my day in 140 characters than spend about 30 minutes a day to write it all down.

Loccit

Compiling everything and printing a modern diary sounds like hard work, though, which is why I find the concept of Loccit so appealing. It’s an online service that lets you print and bind your posts and updates from various social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Loccit ships to Europe and the US, although the prices aren’t going to be so friendly to your wallet: a hardback diary costs £14.99 (~$25 USD), and each page after the twentieth will cost 20 pence (about 32 cents.)

What do you think of the concept? Would you want all your online memories printed out, or are they best left “in the cloud?”

Fun’s ‘We Are Young’ Covered By Old Computer Parts

As much as I wanted to not enjoy Fun’s “We Are Young“, I have come to admit that it’s quite the popular song and I should just let the kids have their popular music and I’ll tap my finger to it every so often. How popular is We Are Young? Well, popular enough for someone to go through the trouble of having their old tech collecting dust in their garage have a crack at the song.

The video above features some hard disks, an HP Scanjet 3C and a Yamaha CX-5 working together to create quite the rendition of Fun’s We Are Young. With only three pieces of tech, the sounds they all produce are nearly spot on to the original song, with the hard drives being the most impressive to me as hearing a hard drive click usually means a terrible weekend for me and my computer.

Seeing as the video also has a skull in the background when the HP Scanjet 3C is jamming out, we feel it was a wasted opportunity to have a little fun with that and possibly have it perform some of the lead vocals. Old computer tech along with pieces of the human anatomy is the perfect recipe for a hit video.

A Proposal in an iPad Box: Better than a Tablet?

I got a ton of presents this Christmas, and I hope you did, too. There were some I liked, some I didn’t, and some that I absolutely loved. But regardless of the actual gift in the box, it’s the thought that counts, so I guess I can say that I loved everything I got. What about you?

There were some unexpected presents, for sure, but I’m sure the person who got the most unexpected gift of all was the recipient of Redditor rad_rob.

iPadThe box you see above was gifted to his girlfriend. And while it’s the box for an iPad, it doesn’t actually contain an iPad inside. Instead, it holds something that’s more like the key to her future – and his as well, if everything works out.

Yep, that’s right: rad_rob wrapped up his proposal and an engagement ring in an iPad box and you’d be surprised at the lengths he went through to get it right. You can check out the gallery below to see exactly what he did.

iPad3 175x175
iPad2 175x175
iPad5 175x175
iPad4 175x175

Good luck, Rob – I hope you got an “I Do!” and not a “Where’s my iPad?”

Someone’s Going to Get a $20,000 Flash Mob Wedding Proposal Soon

If you were eyeing that flash mob wedding that was up for sale on Gilt, then too bad, because it looks like someone already beat you to it.

News about the 20-grand proposal offer first made its rounds on the interwebs about a week ago. It obviously caught someone’s eye because it is now marked as ‘sold out.’

flash mob wedding proposalThe offer included providing the proposer with up to 30 dancers to pose as dinner guests, who will be guided by an ‘award-winning’ photographer. A professional videographer to capture the entire event on tape (and for YouTube) will also be available at the proposer’s disposal. Of course, it also included a gourmet five-course tasting menu and wine pairings at New York’s Artisanal Fromagerie and Bistro for the happy couple. I’m not sure if the flash mob itself gets anything to eat.

There’s also a specified date for the proposal: December 12th. So whoever bought it better have that ring ready, because the twelfth is coming very soon.

Foldify App Lets Everyone Be a Papercraft Artist

While there are a lot of free downloadable foldable papercraft templates online – we’ve actually featured a few of them – I’m sure many of you wished you could create custom ones yourself. Your wish has been granted. Or it will be when Foldify is released.

foldify app papercraft

Launching as an iPad exclusive, Foldify makes it easy to create custom papercraft, from coming up with the shape of your boxy creation, adding color and parts to actually printing it. The only thing it can’t help you with is with the quality of your art. Thankfully you won’t need to waste cardboard because you can practice and re-do your papercraft on the app as often as you like.

There’s no word on the price of Foldify, but developer Pixle has submitted it to the iTunes App Store and expects it to be released on December 13, 2012. In the meantime you can check out more examples of Foldify creations on its Facebook page.

3D-Printed Gun Fires off Six Shots Before Going Kaput

Everyone’s going crazy over 3D printing these days, and understandably so. The concept seems like it’s something from the pages of a sci-fi book, and now researchers have managed to turn it into a reality.

3D Printed GunThe coolest thing about 3D printing is that the sky is really the limit. You can now ‘manufacture’ toys, gadgets, and even weapons from 3D scans, patterns, and of course, a good 3D printer. It’s impressive stuff, but when it comes to the last bit, it’s also pretty scary.

A couple of amateur gunsmiths came together and had a some gun parts printed so that they could put together a fully-functional AR-15 semi-automatic rifle. They tested out the 3D-printed lower receiver recently and results were pretty good at first – that is, until they got to their sixth shot.

Note that the receiver was the only 3D-printed part used in the test; all others used were actual gun parts.

What do you think?

iPad Foosball Table: He Shoots, He Scores

I’ve always enjoyed a good game of foosball – but full-size foosball tables are pretty expensive so I’ve never had one in my house. Here’s a fun way to play foosball with your pals for the low low price of $100 (plus an iPad.)

ipad foosball

Created by New Potato Technologies, the iPad Foosball table plays just like an actual foosball table, but with virtual players on the screen of your iPad. It works along with an iOS game called Classic Match Foosball, and the 2-axis control levers work just like the real deal. Here’s a little video footage of the game in action:

You can get your hands on the Classic Match iPad Foosball Table over at New Potato Technologies for $99.99(USD). It’s compatible with all iPads with the 30-pin dock connector, so if you’ve got the iPad 4, you’ll just have to head down to the local pub if you want to play foosball. Or you could just buy one of these.

Pochtomat: Package Vending Machine Eliminates Need for Surly Postal Workers

People seem to be coming up with all sorts of bizarre ways to get people’s packages to them. First, there was Cardrops, which is a start-up that delivers your stuff to your car trunk instead of your home. And now there’s Pochtomat, which isn’t really a delivery service since you have to go pick up your package yourself.

Pochtomat“Wait a minute,” you might say. “That doesn’t make the Pochtomat much different from the post office.” Well, that’s where you’re wrong, because the packages are left off in the Pochtomat at a railway station near you.

The most unusual thing? The Pochtomat is actually a vending machine that gives you your stuff after you key in confirmation on the touchscreen controls, eliminating the need for humans to handle the menial task of handing you a parcel. You’ll be sent a text message or email informing you that your package is already at the Pochtomat you chose to have it delivered to. It’ll only be there for three days before it’ll be shipped off to a warehouse, so it’s best that you don’t delay when claiming it.

The Pochtomat has already been installed in 17 railway stations in Russia, with installations planned in more stations.
