Wooden LEGO Minifigs: Because Plastic LEGO People Aren’t Enough

I think LEGO should be a huge part of every kid’s childhood. For one, it’s a toy that develops motor skills and requires kids to think while having fun in the process. Sounds totally win-win to me.

But if you prefer your stuff all natural and biodegradable, then you’ll be pleased to know that someone out there has carved some wooden LEGO-like parts that form a LEGO guy when put together.

Wood Carved Lego

Looks pretty awesome, doesn’t it? This wooden minifig was carved by Thibaut MALET, who hails from France. The entire toy isn’t hinged, though, so you can expect it to have limited flexibility.

The bad news? They’re all sold out already. Thibaut explains that only twenty numbered figures made, so if you were one of the twenty people who were able to buy one, then lucky you.

Litographs Let You Wear Your Favorite Literary Works

Remember the Book Scarves? Well, now you can do more than just wear your favorite story around your neck.

If this campaign on Kickstarter gets, well, kick-started, you might soon be able to wear your favorite work of literature on your shirt. I’m talking about Litographs.

litograph6Printing the entire text of a literary masterpiece on an article of clothing isn’t exactly a new concept, but Litographs managed to take something that has already been done to a different level. Instead of just printing the text on the shirt, they’ve set it so that the cracks and spaces in between reveal an image that’s appropriate for the story.

Check out the gallery below for the first Litographs shirts that are going into production.

Litograph1 175x175
Litograph2 175x175
Litograph3 175x175
Litograph4 175x175
Litograph5 175x175
litograph6 175x175

The project is currently up for funding on Kickstarter, where a minimum pledge of $30(USD) will get you one Litographs shirt of your choice. Contributing $25 more will get you one of Litographs’ prints to hang on your wall.

bar10derIt won’t win any awards for spelling, but the Bar10der can help you prepare ingredients and mix up an assortment of alcoholic beverages which will make you the life of the party.

Think of it as the Swiss knife for bartenders that’s got every tool that you might need to fix up that perfect little cocktail.

The Bar10der is available online in four different colors for $49.99(USD).

Give the Gift of Pepsi and Win Free Drinks on PepsiCo’s Interactive Vending Machine

Months after Coca-Cola rolled out their ‘Open Happiness’ vending machines, Pepsi is following suit. They won’t be giving away free bottles of soda for hugs, although you will be able to give people the gift of Pepsi and play a game to score free drinks.

pepsi interactive vending machine
You can buy drinks for yourself or for a friend. To send a gift to someone, all you have to do is punch in the recipient’s email address and name. The machine will then send them a code, which they can key in on the machine to claim. Of course, that assumes your friend is somewhere near one of these machines as well.

The Pepsi vending machine is also programmed with a game that you can play to win 20-ounce beverage bottles for yourself.

Pretty cool vending machine, but I prefer Coca-Cola’s because, really, what can beat getting free Coke for a hug? What do you think?

The PepsiCo Interactive Vending Machine dispenses Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Sierra Mist Natural, Aquafina and Lipton Green Tea, and can be found at Columbiana Centre (Columbia, SC), Clackamas Town Center (Happy Valley, OR), Oglethorpe Mall (Savannah, GA), Oakwood Mall (Eau Claire, WI) and Park City Center (Lancaster, PA).

Artful Dodger Collects Your Loose Change While You Rock

Apparently, rocking chairs are pretty hot commodities nowadays. Following fast on the heels of the Rocking-Knit chair and the iRock  is the Artful Dodger. Doesn’t sound like something you’d name a rocking chair, but designer Sam LOmingshum (no, that uppercase “O” isn’t a typo) did so with good reason.

You see, the Artful Dodger isn’t just a rocking chair. It also happens to be a thief. Well, sort of.

Artful DodgerIt’s never a good idea to sit and rock on a rocking chair if your pockets are full. If you’ve tried doing so with change in your pockets, then you know what I mean. Sam and his artfully dodgy chair are also well-aware of this fact.

So when you start rocking and your coins start falling out…

Artful Dodger1

…the Artful Dodger will take care of collecting all your loose change. It’s sort of like any automatic piggy bank – for the owner of the chair, that is.

The Seven Deadly Rings

If the Seven Deadly Sins were somehow transformed into rings, then these would be them. Presenting Stephen Webster’s collection of rings that are so sinfully bad that they’re good:

seven deadly rings

A description of the rings:

Envy is, of course, a representation of the green eyed monster lurking under a lush green peridot while for Pride a purple tanzanite is surrounded by a ruff of peacock feathers. Gluttony are wide-open cherry red bejewelled lips with glossy white teeth just waiting to chomp up anything edible. Wrath shows a woman’s hands clutching a chalice of poison.

Greed looks like a pile of gold coins topped with diamonds, while Sloth features an aquamarine set lazily in a plush red cushion. Lastly, Lust is a tangle of arms and legs surrounding a gorgeous, deep blue stone.

They’re extremely limited too, since only seven of each of the seven Deadly Sins rings will be made. Which sin is your favorite?

Man-Eater Game Encourages Urban Commuters to Chomp on Pedestrians

Nobody wants to be called a man-eater. People have been singing about them for years but it’s hardly a compliment to be called one. But a man-eater is what you have to become if you want to top the high-score charts in this urban game aptly called Man-Eater.

Man EaterDaniel Disselkoen played with the man-eater concept and came up with the game for his graduation project at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.

To play, the people in the tram simply have to close one eye and adjust their position relative to that of the man-eater that’s stuck onto the window of the tram. As the vehicle moves, they must then try to ‘eat’ as many pedestrian heads as they can.

Daniel explains the reasoning behind the game: “Why would you look out the window with curiosity when there is no reason to expect anything new?”

Man-Eater is pretty simple but I think it can make people want to look out the window more.

iRock Rocking Chair Charges Your iPad While You Rock

It looks like modded rocking chairs are getting more popular this year. First, it was Damien Ludi and Colin Peillex’s Rocking-Knit chair that knitted while you rocked. And now it’s the iRock.

If you’re not into knitting but love rocking anyways, then maybe the iRock is more up your alley.

irock rocker 1
Using the energy produced by your rocking movement, the iRock charges up your iPad up to 35% for every hour of rocking. It’s also got a pair of speakers built into the headrest and a 25W-per-channel amp.

The chair itself is made from Swedish oak and pine and is available in five colors, including white, black, green, cyan and magenta. The iRock is pretty pricey at $1,300(USD), but what did you expect from a chair with a built-in iPad dock and sound station?

Korea is Flush with Happiness with Their New Toilet-Themed Park

Cartoon characters and movies are common subjects for theme parks. Household objects are a stretch. But toilets? Now this is definitely a first. A new theme park was recently erected in Suwon, South Korea and it celebrates toilets. I think that much is clear from the image of the park that you see here.

Toilet ParkIt’s called the Restroom Cultural Park and serves as Suwon’s tribute to its loo-loving former mayor, Sim Jae-duck. Apparently, Sim’s love for toilets began when he was a wee child, having been born in a toilet himself.

Throughout his term, Sim promoted public facilities while he was in office. He eventually went on to found the World Toilet Association.

Sim might have gone on to the other side (he passed away in 2009), but his legacy and love for toilets will forever be remembered and celebrated with this theme park.

The Chair That Knits While You Rock

Old folks aren’t the only ones who might want to take up knitting. For years, I’ve wanted to learn because I wanted to wear knitted stuff and be able to tell people that I knitted it myself.

Unfortunately, I’m pretty bad at it. But fortunately for me and all the other people who suck at knitting, there’s the Rocking-Knit.

rocking knit
Basically, this rocking chair will do all the knitting for you. And all you have to do is sit and do whatever you want, as long as you keep rocking.

The Rocking-Knit was built by Damien Ludi and Colin Peillex from the University of Art and Design in Lausanne, Switzerland because they just couldn’t bear to see all that geriatric rocking energy go to waste.

The chair itself was created for the University’s Low-Tech Factory design exhibition, and we’re not likely to see it go into production commercially. Regardless, I know a lot of people who’d want to have this chair in their living room to help them get their knitting out of the way while at the same time lounging.
