If you’re over the age of 12, you probably wondered why the hell Pixar ever made Cars 2. And then when you heard about Planes, you probably wondered who in the world would go see a Pixar-less Disney movie that sounds like the direct to DVD cousin of Cars. Merchandising is not an excuse for crap! The formula is simple, really: any vehicle-related movie made by Disney or Pixar is a must not watch. Funny or Die pokes fun of Disney’s Jay Leno-like vehicle obsession by showing just how many vehicle-related movies they have in the pipeline.

It’s with a tear in my eye that I share this little snippet with you – our own Drew Olanoff, who now works at Yahoo! with most of the rest of Palo Alto, talking to Conan O’Brien about Google Glass. Drew (the Drewster we called him) runs through some of the cooler features including how to make a call, how to find directions, and, in the end, how to go with grace and dignity.

I don’t know why this keeps happening to people. Maybe because some people just don’t do their research first before handing over their money?

Regardless, this story should be a cautionary tale to most people who buy gadgets from unauthorized and unverified merchants online.

An Australian woman wanted to buy two (presumably unlocked) iPhones, so instead of going to an Apple store, she went on Gumtree and posted an ad in the classifieds. Another woman answered her ad, and they reached an agreement.

They met at a nearby McDonald’s, where the first woman handed AU$1,500 (~ $1,300 USD) to the seller. The latter, in turn, handed her two iPhone boxes were each supposed to contain one brand-new iPhone. Instead, when the buyer got home and opened the boxes, she found an actual apple inside. As in, the fruit.

Despite her stupidity, I feel bad for her and hope she’ll figure out a way to get her money back. But until then, those two apples are probably the most expensive ones she’s ever bought in her lifetime.

Apparently, Netflix pulled Star Trek III: The Search for Spock from its instant streaming service. The company has had much criticism over errors in the way it’s streaming movies, especially the subtitles. Specifically, they pulled The Search for Spock to correct the Vulcan and Klingon subtitles.

Apparently, the film had been streaming with English dubbing over the alien languages, but the service will reinstate the original audio and supplement it with English subtitles. But not the ones from the original DVDs – Netflix will use their own subtitles instead, ensuring the accuracy of the Klingon-to-English and Vulcan-to-English translations. I think they must be finished correcting them already, because I am able to pull up the movie on Netflix, though I don’t have the time to watch it right now.

This seems pretty stupid. The subtitles are already on the DVDs. I guess the folks at Netflix have some spare time on their hands.
