DIY Motorized Couch: Ridin’ Lazy

Back in 2010 Nick Homer and his college buddy Stewart Clyde made headlines because of their silly invention: a remote-controlled motorized couch. Now Nick is working on a comprehensive guide for couch potatoes who have a very slight need for speed.

As with the original ride, Nick’s guide will consist of combining an electric wheelchair base with a loveseat. If you get both of those components used – and you should – the whole thing should cost you only about $150 (USD). Nick claims that his guide will have you napping in motion in just a few hours.

Lie down on your browser and head to Kickstarter. You only need to pledge $2 to gain access to Nick’s online guide, which will include videos, FAQs and recommendations for the supplies.

Lana. Lana! Laaaaana! WHAT? Buy My Shirt.

I am a huge fan of the animated show Archer. I am so incredibly bitter that the fourth season is not on Netflix yet. I started my Archer experience late and blew through the first three seasons in a caffeine-induced binge weekend. I am recording the fifth season, but I refuse to watch until I can see the fourth. I know I could buy digital downloads or Blu-ray, but I am cheap.

ThinkGeek has a new shirt that is perfect for Archer fans. It has a picture of Sterling Archer on the front screaming “LAAAAAAAANA!”

If you have watched the show, you know how this works, “Lana. LANA! LAAAAAAAANA!”, then she replies, ” WHAT?!” to which Archer often simply says “Danger Zone.”  You can pick one up for $19.99 at ThinkGeek.

I always thought it was “LANAAAAAAAAA!”

Friendly wild whale goes to fisherman and says hi waving her fin

The folks from I Want to Fish were about start fishing salmon off the coast of British Columbia when a humpback whale came to their boat to say hi. No, really, she actually came by, said hi waving her fin and left. That’s how awesome whales roll.

What famous celebrities would look like if they had tattoos

What famous celebrities would look like if they had tattoos

Tattoos don’t have the same stigma as they once did but we’re still a bit away from having body art painted on the sleeves of politicians or on the necks of princesses. I wish they were though. These photoshopped images of famous people covered in tattoos are so great that I wish it was real life. How hilarious would it be to see Spock covered in ink? Or to have the regal Jackie O tatted up? It would be awesome.

Jean-Claude Van Damme beats Chuck Norris with a split in space

Remember when Jean-Claude Van Damme really pulled off that impossible stunt by doing the splits with two moving trucks? And then we all laughed when Chuck Norris hilariously beat him with airplanes and CGI? Well, Van Damme just won.

Xbox 360 Controller Dog Leash: Pet Simulator

Instructables Community Manager and avid maker Mike Warren figured out a way to work on his gaming skills while walking his dog. He gutted a broken Xbox 360 controller and turned it into a large but somewhat practical dog leash.

I say the mod is somewhat practical because Mike replaced one of the gamepad’s rumble motors with a poop bag dispenser.

Check out Mike’s Instructables page to see how he did it. An Instructables commenter suggested hacking the controller’s buttons so that they trigger sound effects, or perhaps make your dog’s collar light up.

For the Lonely: DIY Make-out Pillow

The day that a lot of singles dread has now come and gone. While more and more unattached people choose to go out and spend the night with friends when February 14th rolls around, there are still those who stay home and sulk over their singlehood.

Then there are those who choose to have a little fun with the situation, like Instructables user Emily Grace King. After finding a bunch of CPR dummy mouths in a dumpster by her apartment building, Emily was inspired to create the Make-out Pillow.

Staying true to its name, it’s a pillow that lonely people can make out with (ew) if they feel the need to, well, make out. While it looks pretty simple, making the Make-out Pillow requires a bit of work.

You’ll need a sewing machine (yeah, you gotta work for that kiss!), some scissors, thread, embroidery floss, glue, felt or fabric, pullow stuffing, some cardboard, and of course, the CPR dummy mouth.

Want to make one of your very own? Check out Emily’s Instructables page to see how she did it.

Olympic Speed Skating Would Be a Lot Better if It Was Like Mario Kart

After two weeks of hearing about sports you’ve never cared to follow in the past four years, you’ve probably wondered why the short track skaters don’t just … you know … throw a blue shell at the end? And here we can see what would happen if they did.

You’ve Tweeted ‘Em, Now Eat(ed?) ‘Em: Mashtags Social Media-Inspired Snacks

Here’s another way to capitalize on social media: make snack foods inspired by social media elements like emoticons and hashtags. That’s what Birds Eye Foods UK did with their latest offering called Mashtags.

It’s essentially a potato snack with its chips (can you still call them chips?) in the shame of smiley faces, asterisks, at symbols, hearts, and of course, hashtags.

Birds Eye brand manager Pete Johnson explained: “Social media is all about conversation and we’re confident Mashtags will resonate across various groups of people. We’re constantly looking for ways to innovate and inspire consumers and hope that Mashtags will get people talking around the table and help to make mealtimes more enjoyable.”

It’s a fun idea, but it feels like a novelty at best. What do you think?
