Multi-purpose Glowing Block Chair Brings Tetris To Mind

I know that we are well into 2013 now, but there is this interesting Media Block Chair that was paraded at Digital Content Expo 2012 by TeamLab, where it has been described as this, “The Media Block Chair is a block-shaped object with three protruding sides and three indented sides. Protruding sides communicate information to indented sides. If a protruding side of a red block is connected to a blue receiving block, the blue block receives the red and becomes purple. Or, if a yellow block is placed on top of a purple block, the yellow turns to green. In this way, multiple blocks can be connected and colors change. ”

When functioning as a standalone piece of high-tech furniture, it would come in the form of a shining cube-shaped multi-purpose block which will double up as an illuminating showpiece in your living room, but when you want to get all Tetris with your living room or office, you can opt to connect blocks together by fitting protrusions into the respective indentations, where this will open up different possibilities such as the use of it as a bench, display furniture, or partition. Really, the sky’s the limit when it comes to your creativity (and budget, I would suppose).

I just hope that this awesome design becomes a reality, because I can’t get enough Invaders. I’m betting the chair would cost you more than a working Space Invaders arcade cabinet, but I think it would be worth it.

X-Wing Fighter Coffee Table: Stay on Target!

Alright kid, let’s blow this thing and go home… Check out this awesome X-Wing Fighter coffee table made from wood and glass. It looks stunning and it took Sean Regan and Aubrey Cohen 6 months to make it, carving it from a few hunks of wood.

I love how dimensional it is, because the top half and bottom half hold the glass between them. That makes it look pretty sweet and also keeps it sturdy. You can try to make one yourself if you want, but I doubt it will look half as good.

If you were to pay for it, at a cost of about $14 an hour, this would cost in the neighborhood of $60,500. You could probably buy a real X-Wing Fighter for that – at least a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Canapé Cactus Couch & Ottoman: Is It Getting Prickly in Here?

While they might have different upholstery, most sofas and couches look pretty similar. From time to time, though, you come across something very different. This cactus couch is definitely unusual, because cacti usually don’t make good sitting places.

The Canapé Cactus Couch was part of the Isn’t It Romantic exhibition at MAKK in Köln, Germany. The Paris-based Italian designer Maurizio Galante made up a variety of prickly-printed sofas, couches, and ottomans. But rather than using actual cacti, these succulents are printed on “bio-elastic” fabric.

The exhibition runs until April 21, 2013. If he ever ends up selling them, I’m betting they’d be much more comfortable than actual cacti.
