A Very Special Post-CES Gadgets Podcast

gadgets-podcast-ces

You’ll have to forgive us if we sound slightly exhausted. We have returned from a long, adventurous week at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show and are now in a state of recovery.

Still, we found time to chat about our experience on this week’s TC Gadgets Podcast so that those of you who couldn’t make it to the show can get a taste of the biggest gadgets show in the world. Hopefully, you followed along with our coverage of the show, where we went 3D printer shopping with Martha Stewart and checked out one-wheeled skateboards and ushered in a new era of hardware startup competitions with CES Hardware Battlefield.

We discuss all this and more on this week’s episode of the TC Gadgets Podcast, featuring John Biggs, Matt Burns, Jordan Crook, and Darrell Etherington.

Enjoy!

This week, we have a special TechCrunch Gadgets podcast, in that it’s actually CrunchWeek in audio form. CES happened this past week, and so the news we focused on in general happened to be about gadgets.

Check out our personal favorites from the show, which include Qualcomm’s mobile processor advancements, the ever-improving Oculus Rift virtual reality gaming headset, and some of our own Hardware Battlefield contestants as we chat poolside at our decently appointed Las Vegas hotel.

Tune in and hear Greg Kumparak, Jordan Crook and Darrell Etherington reflect on the week that was, and the gadgets that will be.

This Week On The TC Gadgets Podcast: Our Favorites For 2013

gadgets131220-banner

It’s the most reflective and introspective time of the year, so this week on the TechCrunch Gadgets Podcast we take a look back at the year that was and offer up our favorite gadgets.

John likes a lot of stuff, including the treadmill desk that has become a permanent fixture on the Gadgets cast, and some more broadly transformative gadgets, too. Predictably, I like Apple stuff, and also predictably, Matt Burns likes some kind of reciprocating saw or tool or whatever.

Some of the devices that come to mind can be found in our team gift guide, or on one of the other various gift guides we’ve been gifting you all season long.

So have a listen to this week’s episode of the TechCrunch John Biggs Treadmill Deskcast, featuring John Biggs in the title role, Darrell Etherington, and Matt Burns.

We invite you to enjoy our weekly podcasts every Friday at 3 p.m. Eastern and noon Pacific. And feel free to check out the TechCrunch Gadgets Flipboard magazine right here.

And as we open our homes to friends and loved ones over the holidays, it’s worth looking at the next generation of home automation gadgets.

Thanksgiving is around the corner, which means that the Holiday season is actually upon us. And you know what that means? Electronics makers are literally spewing gadgets at us in time for gift-giving season.

The Xbox One is on its way, with a launch date of November 22. But will the new model wow you the same way older generations of the Xbox did?

Meanwhile, Google released the Nexus 5 with KitKat, which the boys are calling the best and most efficient Android phone available. And finally, we can’t help but notice that HTC has gone a little cray-cray with this whole Gramohorn audio amplifier.

Helping you finish up this chilly Friday, we discuss all this and more on this week’s episode of the TC Gadgets Podcast, featuring John Biggs, Matt Burns, Jordan Crook, and Darrell Etherington.

This Week On The TC Gadgets Podcast: Apple’s New iPad Air And Traveling With Gadgets

gadgets130412

Guten Tag, and welcome to a very special (Saturday) edition of the TechCrunch Gadgets Podcast.

This week, Apple unveiled the iPad Air, the thinnest, lightest, and most powerful iPad yet. But is it an upgrade worth your cash? Is it light enough to truly become a one-handed device, as MG Siegler suggests?

Plus, as the gadgeteers are traveling through Berlin for Disrupt Europe, we thought it worthwhile to discuss how to travel abroad with your favorite gadgets.

It’s a podcast for the ages, featuring John Biggs, Matt Burns, Jordan Crook, and Greg Kumparak.

Enjoy!

This Week On The TC Gadgets Podcast: Windows 8.1, The Kindle Fire HDX, And Curved Display Smartphones

That’s right. It’s Gadgets Podcast time once again, and all I can say is TGIF.

Here are some of our topics this week:

Who’s already upgraded to Windows 8.1? John had no trouble with it but Matt seems to be lost.

Meanwhile, we’ve been testing out the new Amazon Kindle Fire HDX, and we all pretty much agree that it’s a fine media-centric tablet and a perfect gift for a mother-in-law.

And finally, we discuss the newest trend in smartphones: a curved display. (Here’s Nokia’s concept for a bending display smartphone, which is many years away from commercialization, and also completely different from the curved displays we’re seeing out of Samsung and LG).

Oh, and we’ll be launching our holiday gift guide in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for that.

We chat about all this and more in this week’s episode of the TC Gadgets Podcast, featuring John Biggs, Matt Burns and Jordan Crook.

Enjoy!

This Week On The TC Gadgets Podcast: BlackBerry, FitBit Force, The New iMac, And Pokemon?

pokemon

Is BlackBerry co-founder really mulling over buying back the company he founded, now called BlackBerry instead of RIM, a company which has recently lost most of its design team and talent and… well, dignity? Is the new iMac the most amazingly awesome thing Apple has ever done in the history of Apple? What’s the deal with that new FitBit Force smartwatch, fitness tracker thing? Do we care?

And, in news that doesn’t belong on TechCrunch, what’s our excitement level on a scale of one to ten now that new Pokemon is coming out?

We discuss all this and more in this week’s episode of the TC Gadgets Podcast, featuring John Biggs, Matt Burns, Jordan Crook, Darrell Etherington, and Natasha Lomas.

Enjoy!

Meanwhile, BlackBerry continues to be in shambles, with BBM for Android and iOS delayed and the Z30 reportedly not going on sale in the company’s home country of Canada on Rogers.

We discuss all this and more in this week’s episode of the TC Gadgets Podcast, featuring John Biggs, Matt Burns, Jordan Crook, Chris Velazco, Darrell Etherington, and a special guest appearance by Chris Nesi.
