TechCrunch Disrupt starts on Monday, so that’s on all our minds for this week’s TC Gadgets Podcast. Hardware Alley showcases gadget startups on September 11, and if you’re still looking for hardware fixes there have been plenty this week, including Microsoft acquiring Nokia’s devices wing, and Samsung’s new Galaxy Gear smartwatch.

The Ubuntu Edge may have been the most successful crowdfunding campaign in history, but that doesn’t mean it made its goal. Meanwhile, yet another smartwatch joined the fray this week, coaxing John’s money out of his wallet by being just a tad “smarter” than the rest. Makerbot released a scanner this week called the Digitizer, which lets you scan objects to then print them, but we’re not sure we’re down with the high price tag. And last, but certainly not least, we all pretty much agree that a gold iPhone will make its way into the world come September 10.

Nokia has apparently reinvented zoom with the newest addition to the Lumia family, the Windows Phone 8-powered Lumia 1020, with a 41-megapixel PureView camera. It lets you zoom after the fact and still see ultra high resolution detail and sharpness. Meanwhile, Microsoft underwent a huge reorganization moving most of the company’s high-ranking leadership into new positions.
