Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 Receives Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Update

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 Receives Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean UpdateSo, you are a proud owner of the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 (granted, the Galaxy Ace series did not really do all that well compared to the Galaxy S range). Well, today is a good day despite having fallen for a fair number of April Fool’s jokes and gags, considering how the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 is about to be bumped up to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean as the operating system of choice. As long as your smartphone bears the model number GT-i8160, you are good to go.

It was a couple of months ago when an unofficial version of a Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 leaked out, so do not be surprised if some of those with more intestinal fortitude than the average Android smartphone user have already installed the unofficial version, and enjoying all the benefits of Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean for more than a month how. The update is said to come Over The Air (OTA), so patience is the name of the game. Otherwise, you can always take the KIES route.

Samsung rolling Jelly Bean out across most of its smartphone, tablet lineup ‘soon’

Samsung Jelly Bean

Now that Samsung has commenced beaming Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean OTA toward deserving Galaxy S III customers, it’s announced a raft of other devices set to receive the buttery OS in the near future. On the list are the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and 10.1, Galaxy Note 10.1, Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, Galaxy S Advance, Galaxy S II LTE, Galaxy Music, Galaxy Chat, Galaxy Ace 2, Galaxy Beam, Galaxy Ace Plus, Galaxy mini II and Galaxy S Duos. That should bring a bit of extra speed and smoothness to those devices, along with Google Now for search and Samsung’s own flourishes from the latest TouchWiz UX. As for the rest of us, there’s more than one way to skin a Smartphone — or avoid skinning one, as the case may be.

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 reportedly headed to Virgin Mobile in Canada

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 reportedly headed to Virgin Mobile in Canada

Since being unveiled a long, long time ago, the Galaxy Ace 2 has seen its younger S III brother grab all the praising headlines — oh, and we can say the same about its other bodacious, note-friendly sibling. Still, we have a feeling some Canadian Virgin Mobile customers would welcome one of Sammy’s lesser-specced family members with open arms hands. Well, according to MobileSyrup, the Ace 2 is exactly what folks using the prepaid carrier can expect come this holiday season, making the trip across the Atlantic with a rumored contract-free price tag of somewhere between $200 to $250. To give you a quick refresh, this Gingerbread handset boasts a 3.8-inch, WVGA display, a humble dual-core, 800MHz CPU alongside 768MB of RAM, 4GB of built-in storage and a decent 1,500mAh battery. We should be hearing more detailed info in the coming weeks, but while we wait for that, you could always revise our hands-on meeting with the Ace 2.

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 and S Advance jumps straight to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean?

It seems that a Bulgarian did call the local Samsung chapter and enquired whether the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 and S Advance smartphones would be on the receiving end of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich anytime soon, and the answer that he received was definitely not an orthodox one. In fact, he was told that there was no Ice Cream Sandwich update coming, but wait for it; there will be a jump to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean right away, meaning the Ice Cream Sandwich goodness will be bypassed.

Do you think that this particular claim holds any water, or is it just a miscommunication over at Samsung Bulgaria? Granted, of all places, Bulgaria is not on most people’s radars when it comes to discovering new information about ROM updates, but I guess that stranger things have happened. We will still keep a keen eye out on the global availability of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean from Samsung for the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 and S Advance, so do check back with us from time to time.

Samsung Galaxy Beam, Galaxy Ace 2 resurface, get proper launches in Singapore and Taiwan

Samsung Galaxy Beam, Galaxy Ace 2 resurface, get proper launches in Singapore and Taiwan

Samsung has been quiet on the subject of its second-generation Galaxy Beam and the Galaxy Ace 2 ever since they showed together in Barcelona this February, but the two just reemerged as close buddies for an initial launch in East Asia. The Galaxy Beam receives the grandest introduction, as it’s coming to Singapore on July 7th followed by a more nebulous mid-July release for Taiwan residents. Those craving tiny, dual-core TouchWiz will have no choice but to flock to Singapore and pick up an Ace 2 at the end of the month. There’s no word on where else they’ll go on their respective world tours, although the cash outlay is strictly in the middle of the pack: we’re looking at S$648 or NT$16,900 ($513 or $566) off-contract for a Galaxy Beam, while its more diminutive cousin carries a S$438 ($352) price tag on similar terms.
