Samsung Gear Glass Google Glass Competitor Rumored

Samsung Gear Glass Google Glass Competitor Rumored

Wearable tech is without a doubt the next frontier in technology and Google has been riding that wave for quite some time now. Google Glass has already been rolled out to a select few Explorers who are putting it through its paces before the anticipated public release next year. There appears to be a lot of interest in this product, which puts the digital world in the user’s line of sight. Google Glass will obviously have to battle with competitors, Recon Jet has already beaten it to the market, but a latest rumor suggests that Samsung might be developing its own Glass rival.

The rumor comes from Eldar Murtazin, who has a varied track record. Earlier this year he predicted that Tizen was dead, Samsung responded that its homegrown OS isn’t going away anywhere. Murtazin says that Samsung is developing its “own version” of Google Glass which is likely to be released in April or May 2014 under the Gear Glass brand. Last month Samsung released the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, so it won’t come as a surprise if it carries the Gear brand over to other wearable devices. The Glass bit of its moniker might trouble Google, but then again, its not like Samsung has officially confirmed that it is indeed working on a Google Glass rival.

Samsung’s First Galaxy Gear Spot Looks a Whole Lot Like an iPhone Ad

Sure, tech ads repeat the same tropes over and over and over. But as The Week points out, Samsung’s first ad for Galaxy Gear is strikingly similar to Apple’s first ad for the iPhone.

    Samsung Galaxy Gear Ad Released

If there’s one other thing that Samsung is known for, it would be their ability to put out great ads. The South Korean tech giant has recently released an ad for its smartwatch, the Samsung Galaxy Gear. The basically draws upon the numerous smartwatches that have made an appearance on film, television, and even cartoons, essentially likening their product to what’s been shown in the past, with the title reading, “A Long Time Coming”, as if to suggest that they were the ones who finally made fiction, a reality. It is admittedly a pretty clever ad although we’re not sure if it will be enough to convince consumers to purchase the device.

While the Galaxy Gear is a decent attempt by Samsung, some niggling issues have left many wondering if the device is more novel than functional. One of the drawbacks is its battery life which only lasts a day and no one really likes having to charge their watch on a daily basis, do they? The fact that the Galaxy Gear is not compatible with all devices out of the box is an issue as well, although Samsung is working on bringing more support for it in the future. In any case if you have a minute to spare, check out the Galaxy Gear ad in the video above.

Samsung Looking Into Making Galaxy Gear Compatible With Smart TVs

Samsung Looking Into Making Galaxy Gear Compatible With Smart TVs

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Gear smartwatch last month in Berlin, Germany. Right now, the device is only fully compatible with the Galaxy Note 3. Support for older Samsung devices is expected to come later this month after the official Android 4.3 update is rolled out. The company apparently does not want to limit the smartwatch’s functionality as a companion to its mobile devices only. Ryan Bidan, director of product marketing at Samsung, says that the company is looking into the possibility of making Galaxy Gear compatible with its smart TVs, as well as other networked electronic devices.

The company is leaning towards developers to find a solution. Samsung’s first ever developers’ conference takes place later this month in San Francisco. Bidan believes that some solutions regarding the compatibility of Galaxy Gear with smart TVs might be seen at the event. Given its small display, the smartwatch itself won’t be a good option to play content on. Though it can work very nicely as a controller for electronic devices. If Galaxy Gear gains the ability to hook up to a smart TV, users would be able to use it to easily change channels, adjust volume and more. Their watch would essentially act as a remote that they can carry with themselves easily. Users may also be able to receive notifications about programming on the smartwatch itself. There can be various applications and uses of Galaxy Gear particularly with smart TVs, we’ll just have to wait and see how long they take to materialize.

T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 And Galaxy Gear Available Now

T Mobile Galaxy Note 3 And Galaxy Gear Available Now

T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 and Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch are now available through the carrier’s website. T-Mobile’s retail stores should also start offering both devices today. Magenta has beaten both AT&T and Sprint to the punch. Both carriers will be rolling out the products tomorrow. Current and prospective Galaxy Note 3 and smartwatch customers can now hit up the carrier’s website or its retail stores to get their latest Samsung fix.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear smartwatch were announced last month at the company’s Unpacked event in Berlin, Germany. At this point in time, Galaxy Note 3 is the only smartphone, rather phablet, that is compatible with the smartwatch. Samsung will release a software update later this month which will bring support for older devices. T-Mobile customers will have to part with $708 if they wish to purchase the Galaxy Note 3 upfront, or they can put $199 down and make 24 equal monthly payments of $21. Qualifying customers will have the luxury of putting no money down, and making up for it by making 24 equal monthly payments of $29.50. There are no contracts or subsidies being offered for the smartwatch. Samsung Galaxy Gear will set customers back $299.99, it is sold separately and there’s no compulsion on the customers to buy it along with their new Galaxy Note.

Review: Samsung’s Galaxy Gear Smart Watch Needs to Go Back to School

The Galaxy Gear is an impressive push in mobile technology, but the execution — both on the hardware and software side — isn’t enough to justify the $300 price tag.

Samsung Galaxy Gear Will Support Galaxy S3 And Galaxy Note 2 As Well

Samsung Galaxy Gear Will Support Galaxy S3 And Galaxy Note 2 As WellDuring IFA 2013 in Berlin, Samsung announced a smartwatch of the company’s making called the Samsung Galaxy Gear, a device which would presumably be compatible with devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Samsung Galaxy S4, which is unsurprising given that the Galaxy S4 is Samsung’s flagship handset of 2013. In any case we’re sure some Samsung customers are wondering if support for older devices will be added as well, and the good news is that yes, Samsung will be adding compatibility support with the Galaxy Gear with older devices like the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2.

However it should be noted that at the launch of the device, compatibility will only be with the Galaxy Note 3. Samsung is expected to issue an update in the future which would add support to the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, and Galaxy Note 2, although users of these devices might be in for a wait, at least until the end of the year which is when Samsung hopes to issue the updates by. We’re not sure if limiting the support of device compatibility is a great way to kick off a brand new product, but what do you guys think?

AT&T Galaxy Note 3 And Galaxy Gear Will Be Released On October 4th

AT&T has finally provided a concrete release date for the Galaxy Note 3 as well as the Galaxy Gear smartwatch. Both devices were unveiled earlier this month at the Samsung Unpacked event in Berlin. When it first started taking pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 3, AT&T only said that the release can be expected around October 1st. Through a tweet, the carrier has confirmed that both devices will be available for purchase online and through its retail stores on October 4th.

AT&T’s release date coincides with that of Sprint and beats Verizon’s by almost one week. T-Mobile is said to begin shipping both Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear on October 1st. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 can be purchased from AT&T for $299 up front, coupled with a two year contract. With the AT&T Next plan, the cost comes down to $35 per month. Off contract, the phablet can be purchased for $749.99. Samsung Galaxy Gear is available from AT&T for $299, no contract plans are provided. At this point in time, only the Galaxy Note 3 has the required software support to make it compatible with the smartwatch. Samsung will release a firmware update for older devices in the coming weeks to make the Galaxy Gear compatible with them.

Android 4.3 Release In Canada For Galaxy S4, S3 And Note 2 Slated For November

Android 4.3 Release In Canada For Galaxy S4, S3 And Note 2 Slated For November

At its Unpacked event earlier this month, Samsung announced that it will release the Android 4.3 update for Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 2 in October. The update will bring features that Google has added, it will also bring the required Bluetooth LE stack that is needed to connect these devices to Samsung’s new Galaxy Gear smartwatch. Customers in Canada might have to wait a bit longer than everyone else, according to a report by MobileSyrup, Samsung Canada has confirmed that Android 4.3 release across the border will take place in November.

This was reportedly confirmed by Vice President of Enterprise Business Division at Samsung Canada, Paul Brannan, during a presentation at the Canadian Wireless Trade Show.  Apparently it is working with Google and local carriers to ensure a smooth rollout of Android 4.3, so its likely that it might happen in November. Samsung has taken a big decision by deciding that it will release Android 4.3 for Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2 in one swoop. However, the update is absolutely essential in a sense that its required by customers with these devices if they want to use a Galaxy Gear smartwatch. Galaxy S4 users might already be in luck, it was discovered yesterday that basic Galaxy Gear functions already work with Galaxy S4.
