Samsung Sells 38 Million Galaxy Note Devices

Samsung Sells 38 Million Galaxy Note Devices

The first Samsung Galaxy Note was launched back in 2011. Its unusual display size lead many to believe that it might perform well, but the device has actually crafted a niche of its own. Just last week the company unveiled Galaxy Note 3, its third phablet, with a host of new improvements and features. At a press conference, Samsung co-CEO JK Shin revealed that the company has sold 38 million units of the Galaxy Note 1 and Galaxy Note 2 around the world.

He predicted that they’ll be able to sell over 10 million units of the new phablet. Shin also said that the company believes Galaxy Note 3 will outdo all of its predecessors. Shin also defended the $299 price tag of Galaxy Gear, its much rumored smartwatch. The device was unveiled alongside Galaxy Note 3 on September 4th. Shin says that the price is appropriate, adding that “it provides a lot of functions.” Both devices will be released in the U.S. over the coming weeks. The Galaxy Note 3 has a full HD 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.3GHz processor with 3GB of RAM and USB 3.0. The company says that it is the first smartphone to ship with Android 4.3 pre-installed. Most major U.S. carriers have already revealed their Galaxy Note 3 release dates.

Snapchat Micro App For Galaxy Gear Revealed

Snapchat Micro App For Galaxy Gear Revealed

Last week Samsung announced a number of new products, the Galaxy Gear smartwatch was one of them. Samsung finally unveiled its much rumored smartwatch, which costs about $299 in the U.S. Initially, there will be 70 apps available for this device. Snapchat has already revealed its offering for the Galaxy Gear. Called Snapchat Micro, the app allows users to send snaps to their friends directly from their smartwatch.

The app lets users take pictures through the Galaxy Gear’s 1.4 megapixel camera. Once they’ve snapped a picture, users can then select the time that they want their picture to appear on the recipients device, select the recipients and then hit send. If the users wants to add a caption to their picture or add a drawing, Snapchat Micro app will automatically open up the picture on its counterpart on the user’s smartphone. Right now the Galaxy Gear smartwatch is only compatible with Galaxy Note 3, Samsung’s latest phablet, which was also unveiled last week. Samsung says that the Android 4.3 update for Galaxy S4 will bring compatibility to the smartphone as well, the update is expected to be released in October. Even Spiegel, the founder of Snapchat, says that Snapchat Micro is an experiment that they’re really excited about. Snapchat Releases Snapchat Micro, An App For The Galaxy Gear Smartwatch

Screen Shot 2013-09-09 at 9.48.31 AM

Remember the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch unveiled a week ago?

Snapchat certainly does, and the ephemeral messaging app has released an app specifically for the wrist-worn gadget. Called Snapchat Micro, the app lets users send snaps directly from their wrists.

Users can take a picture with the Galaxy Gear’s 1.4-megapixel camera, which is capable of taking 10-second 720p videos. Perfect for Snapchat’s 10-second video limit, AMIRITE?

Within the Snapchat Micro app, users can take a picture, choose a time limit, and decide which friends to send the image to. If you’d like to add a drawing or a caption, the snap will automatically be open on your Galaxy Note phone waiting for your creative additions.

“Our team is constantly looking at ways to reduce the time between our experience of a moment and our ability to share it,” said Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel. “The Snapchat Micro app is an experiment we’re really excited about.”

Snapchat is one of around 70 apps that will be available on the Galaxy Gear smartwatch at launch.

Verizon's Galaxy Note and Gear "Bundle" Saves You Zero Dollars

The Samsung Galaxy Gear is finally on the market, and gosh darn is it ‘spensive. Verizon just started offering a bundle with the Gear and the Note 3 that is $600 on contract. But the bundle isn’t about saving money; it’s about saving suckers from buying a toy they can’t play with.

I Actually Really Want a Smartwatch

I Actually Really Want a Smartwatch

I think smartwatches are a really neat idea. It’s been made clear to me—on Twitter, in the office, on the internet at large—that a lot of people disagree. With a burning passion. Let me try to explain to you why you are all wrong.

Qualcomm Toq Hands-On: This Is Tons Better Than the Galaxy Gear

Disregarding my opinion that smartwatches (unless they’re the Pebble, or something as intuitive and elegantly-executed) can all be tossed in a skip and set on fire, I’m actually really impressed after a brief play with the Qualcomm Toq (pronounced “talk,” not “toc.” Dubbed “the anti-Galaxy Gear” (by us), such is the stripped-down nature of what’s crammed inside the 1.5-inch display, it’s more of a pimped-out watch than Dick Tracy phonewatch. And that’s a good thing, before you ask.

Samsung Galaxy Gear Hits The FCC

Samsung Galaxy Gear Hits The FCCYes, we have seen a few devices arrive at the FCC recently, including the alleged Nexus 5, not to mention the alleged low cost Moto X smartphone. Having said that, the recently unveiled Samsung Galaxy Gear (which we managed to get a fair amount of hands-on time with it) has also paid a visit to the FCC, where it depicts the Samsung SM-V700 (that would be the Galaxy Gear’s model number) getting all the necessary paperwork approved by the FCC, which would mean it is about to hit retail shelves very, very soon. Heck, with the announced deadline of an end of September rollout for the Galaxy Gear, it had best get its act together, otherwise it might end up as egg on Samsung’s face.

The FCC documents did not reveal any more additional details concerning the Samsung Galaxy Gear that we already know. Still, it was revealed that Bluetooth connectivity will be part of this puppy, but other than that, it does not seem as though there would be other wireless connectivity options, although we would not rule out any last minute surprises. Will you be picking up the Samsung Galaxy Gear when it finally arrives at a store near you?

Photoshop Contest: Put a Galaxy Gear Into an Iconic Historical Image

Photoshop Contest: Put a Galaxy Gear Into an Iconic Historical Image

Time may just be a social construct, but it’s one of the rare bits of humanity that will more or less always remain constant. However, the same cannot be said for our timepieces that no longer tell time—our ever-evolving watches.

Wait, What? No! Samsung’s Smartwatch Has a Leather Case, Too?!

Wait, What? No! Samsung’s Smartwatch Has a Leather Case, Too?!

There are plenty of reasons to be skeptical about the latest round of touchscreen timepieces like the Galaxy Gear, not the least of which being the fact that you’ll apparently even be able to get a faux-leather stitched case for it. Guh. WHO WOULD DO THIS???
