Samsung, a company that has for the longest time churned out their fair share of consumer electronics for the world in addition to hot selling smartphones, are back this time around with a couple of sizes under the same name – the Samsung Galaxy Mega. They sure as heck were not kidding with the release of the Samsung Galaxy Mega. This particular smartphone is said to come with the portability and convenience of a smartphone, in addition to having the power, multitasking capabilities and extensive viewing experience of a tablet. Yes sir, we are referring to the proverbial “best of both worlds” here, where you will be able to choose from 5.8” and 6.3” displays.
Regardless of which screen size you decided to settle on its High Definition LCD display will obviously boast of landscape mode support, which delivers an exceptional widescreen view for a wide range of applications that range from web browsing to video, and SNS. Despite the rather large footprint, you can be sure that the Samsung Galaxy Mega is not going to be heavy on your pockets, since it is touted to be incredibly light and thin, delivering extreme portability and easy, convenient mobile phone use.
There is the ‘Group Play’ mode that enables easy content sharing for up to 8 different devices on the same Wi-Fi network, while ‘Samsung WatchON’ is capable of transforming it into an IR remote controller, letting you enjoy a richer TV experience. ‘Samsung Link’ itself makes life a cinch, as you easily stream photos, videos, notes, or music to your TV, tablet or computer. The presence of ‘S Translator’ delivers instant translation, whether it relies on text or voice translation on different applications including email, and ChatON.
Expect the Galaxy Mega to offer a range of applications such as email, messages, ‘MyFiles,’ ‘S Memo,’ and ‘S Planner’, among others, where it will also sport an 8-megapixel camera at the back and a 1.9-megapixel shooter in front, coupled with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean as the operating system of choice and a dual core processor. No word on pricing, but the Samsung Galaxy Mega will be available worldwide from next month onwards.

We knew Samsung was planning more devices, but we didn’t expect the arrival of two Galaxy Mega smartphones at the same time. Both are apparently headed to Europe some time next month, continuing to prove that Samsung are willing to test out any screen-size. The 6.3-inch model has an ‘HD display’ (we’re chasing the precise resolution, though it’s likely 720p) alongside a dual-core 1.7GHz processor, Android 4.2 and an 8-megapixel camera. Software features like Air View, Multi Windows, Pop-up Play will make sure you have plenty to do on that giant screen. The Galaxy Mega arrives somewhere between Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy Note II, although we’re hoping it’ll be priced slightly more humbly than either neighbor. The Galaxy Mega 6.3 houses LTE and HSPA radios, while you’ll get GPS and GLONASS to aid any location-based antics. There’s a 3,200mAh battery and internal storage that can be expanded by microSD up to 64GB, with 8 or 16 gigs (there’s two models) built-in to begin with.
The HSPA-only Galaxy Mega 5.8 reduces the size — and pretty much all the other specs. The resolution drops down to qHD (960 x 540), while it packs a lesser 1.4GHz dual-core processor. It has the same 8-megapixel camera, while the smaller, er, Mega, will arrive in only one size — an 8GB model. No word on pricing for either yet, but the Ubergizmo team has already got the chance to handle the Korean manufacturer’s 6.3-inch goliath. Take a look at their first impressions at the More Coverage link.
Update: Samsung has confirmed to us that the resolution on the 6.3-inch model is in fact 1280 x 720.

Last week we reported that according to the rumor mill, Samsung could be working on new Galaxy phones with the Mega moniker, suggesting that we could be looking at phones around the size of the Galaxy Note or even bigger. We had earlier learnt of the specs of the Galaxy Mega 6.3, and now thanks to SamMobile, they claim to have gotten information about the specs of the Galaxy Mega 5.8, one of the two Galaxy Mega phones that Samsung is rumored to be working on. According to the specs, the Galaxy Mega will sport a 5.8” qHD display (obviously), and will sport a 1.4GHz dual-core processor with 1.5GB of RAM, an 8MP camera, a 2MP front-facing camera and will most likely see a launch with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board.
We have to admit that the specs of the Galaxy Mega 5.8 are a little odd. Considering that even the smaller sized Galaxy S4 has Full HD specs, should these new phones be given the same treatment as well? Plus with quad-core being the rage these days, a dual-core chipset does seem a little 2011/2012. However if we had to speculate, perhaps Samsung is looking to keep costs down while promoting devices with larger displays, which we guess will get consumers used to larger screened phones and might encourage them to upgrade to the higher-end Galaxy Note 3 if and when it is released. No word on when the Galaxy Mega series of phones will be released, but take this with a grain of salt for now and we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled.
