Sprint’s Galaxy Note 3 Receives Android 4.4 KitKat Update

Sprints Galaxy Note 3 Receives Android 4.4 KitKat UpdateIf there’s one drawback to carriers in the US is that they typically require manufacturers to pass them handset updates to be certified and approved first before being released. This is an additional step in the updating process which explains why those living in the US sometimes receive their updates later than everyone else. Then again, better late than never, right? The good news is that if you’re a Sprint subscriber with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, you might be pleased to learn that Sprint has announced that the Android 4.4 KitKat update will be making its way onto your devices.

The update weighs in at around 503.6MB so you might want to download this update over a WiFi network rather than use your data plan, lest you burn through your data cap too quickly. The update will introduce some changes, some of which are expected from Android 4.4 KitKit, along with music album art of the lock screen, launcher selection in the settings menu, camera shortcut on lock screen, improvements made to the TouchWiz UI, and prevention pop-up removal. We expect that there might be some updates directly related to Sprint, but for the most part this is about bringing Android 4.4 KitKat to the phone. If you haven’t received your update yet, don’t worry as we’re sure it’s busy making its rounds, but if you have, let us know in the comments below on how the update is treating you!

Galaxy Note 3 Receives Update That Fixes Third Party Accessories

Galaxy Note 3 Receives Update That Fixes Third Party AccessoriesWe’re sure that many Samsung Galaxy Note 3 were pleased when Samsung officially rolled out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for their phones. However we can only imagine that their happiness was quickly turned into one of annoyance as many Galaxy Note 3 owners discovered that the update had caused issues with third-party accessories. One of the examples was with third-party S View cases which when closed, no longer enabled the special screen to appear. Samsung has since acknowledged the issue and promised that a fix would be arriving and sure enough it has. According to reports, Samsung has begun rolling out a software fix that will do away with this bug.

As it stands, it seems that the update is only available in Russia and Poland at the moment and we can only assume it will be soon before it starts to make its way into other markets. For those in the US and bought their phones via carriers, chances are you might have to wait a little longer as the update might require carrier approval before being pushed out to the masses, but hopefully the update will begin making its rounds within the next few days/weeks. Apart from fixing third party accessories, the update will also correct the issue of apps not being able to write to external storage, so this is definitely an update that Galaxy Note 3 owners will want to keep an eye out for.

Samsung Wants Apple’s Logo Hidden During The Olympics

Samsung Wants Apples Logo Hidden During The OlympicsIn the past we have seen embarrassing tweets and posts from celebrities who were paid to endorse a particular phone brand, but ending up tweeting that promotion from another device instead. Perhaps learning from many such mishaps, Samsung has reportedly told all Olympians to hide the Apple logo from their iPhones if they were to use it to record events during the open ceremonies. As you guys are aware, the Winter Olympics are upon us and in light of that, Samsung has decided to take it as a great opportunity to spread the word about their products.

According to reports, Samsung has apparently given every Olympian taking part in the games a free Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and because of that, they are asking Olympians to hide the Apple logo from their iPhones. These guidelines were revealed when members of the Swiss Olympic team found them inserted into the gift bags. What do you guys think? Do you feel that it is unreasonable for Samsung to ask that the Olympians hide the Apple logos from their iPhones? Also, do you think that Samsung’s guidelines will be enforced? Or will we be seeing Olympians openly use their iPhones to start recording the ceremonies anyway?

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Gets A Swarovski Makeover

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Gets A Swarovski MakeoverThe Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is currently one of the more high-profile phablets available in the market today. Given that Samsung was the one who sort of kickstarted the trend of phablets, it is not surprising that they are ones leading the market as well. That being said, Samsung attempted something different with the Galaxy Note 3, which was instead of turning to glossy plastic for the back of the phone, they decided to go with a faux stitched leather backing instead, which we guess made it feel more “premium”, at least compared to simple glossy plastic.

For those who think that maybe the Note 3 could use some jazzing up, you might be interested to learn that Samsung will be launching limited-edition Galaxy Note 3 handsets whose backs have been adorned with Swarovski crystals. The handsets will be launched at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York and will see 3 different iterations of the Note 3: Crystal Bermuda Blue, Crystal Metallica Light Gold, and Crystal Metallic Silver. Pricing and availability of these limited edition Galaxy Note 3 devices remain unknown, but presumably they will not come cheap. So, any takers?

Samsung Admits Galaxy Note 3 KitKat Update Might Have Caused Issues With Accessories

gn3_case_slim_armor_view-smooth_black-640x3861Earlier we had reported that the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3 on AT&T’s network had been leaked. Well if you were thinking about getting your hands on the update you might want to hold off from doing so just yet. According to previous reports, there were complaints from several users who claimed that after updating to Android 4.4 KitKat, several accessories for their Galaxy Note 3 handset had stopped working. One of the notable examples was with the S-View cases which no longer triggered a special screen when closed. However at that time, Samsung advised users to purchase the official case rather than third party ones instead of acknowledging that there could be an issue with the update.

Now Samsung has done a 180 and come forward and admitted that there could be some software issues with the latest update that has affected third party accessories. In a statement Samsung released, “We have currently identified a software compatibility issue with the Galaxy Note 3 update to Android 4.4 (KitKat) and select 3rd party accessories. A software update will be available shortly. We are committed to offering a diverse and reliable mobile experience for all customers, providing continued support and solutions for any issues that arise with product updates for both Samsung manufactured and third-party accessories.” So there you have it, if you were thinking about updating to the latest Android, at least hold off from doing so until the fix has been issued.
