Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 U.S. Release Date is April 11

Android tablet fans will have a new tablet to choose from starting tomorrow when the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet hits stores in the U.S. As the name suggests, the tablet has an eight-inch screen with a native resolution of 1280 x 800. The tablet runs the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system.

The Galaxy Note 8.0 uses a 1.6 GHz Samsung Exynos Quad-core processor and has 2 GB of RAM. The tablet comes with 16GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot for up to 64GB of additional storage. The tablet also has integrated dual-band 802.11/b/g/n Wi-Fi and a 4600 mAh battery. It’s also got a Wacom-based digitizer screen with Samsung’s S-Pen pressure-sensitive stylus.

Other hardware features for the little tablet include a five-megapixel rear camera that can record full HD resolution video and a 1.3-megapixel front camera. The tablet also comes 50 GB of free Dropbox storage good for two years from the date of purchase. The Wi-Fi only Galaxy Note 8.0 will sell for $399.99(USD). Unfortunately, there’s no word on pricing or a release date for an LTE version in the U.S.

Engadget and The Verge both have posted early reviews, with decidedly mixed feelings about the little tablet.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 release live in USA April 11th

Welcome to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 in its wi-fi edition, headed to the United States for release on the 11th of April for a cool off-contract price. This device is the latest in a line of Samsung Galaxy Note-branded smart devices, each of them either bordering between smartphone and tablet or heading straight for the gold with massive displays. With the Galaxy Note 8.0 you’ve got an 8-inch display and the all-powerful S-Pen that marks the uniqueness of the line.

sideflip-580x429

This device is the same as the one we saw earlier this year in Barcelona at Mobile World Congress 2013, this time coming to the USA without its rather strange phonecall feature. Here in the USA you’ll find a smart tablet from start to finish, bringing the power of the Galaxy Note II and the Galaxy Note 10.1 to an 8-inch tablet form factor. Inside you’ve got 2GB of RAM and an Exynos 1.6GHz Quad Core processor so you’ll be rolling right with some of the most powerful apps on the market.

Included in your purchase you’ll be getting 50GB of Dropbox cloud storage for 2 years (if you’re a new member), 1 month of free unlimited streaming music from Samsung’s Music Hub, and a $25 Google Play credit when you register your device. That’s $25 USD worth of whatever you like from Google’s own digital content store – you can buy apps with it, too, mind you!

This device will be available for $399.99 USD (MSRP) starting in mid-April wherever fine Samsung devices are sold. You’ll be able to purchase a host of accessories that include Book Covers in white, pink, grey, or green, travel chargers, USB and HDMI adapters, and more! Have a peek at our timeline of Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 features and hands-on posts below and let us know if you plan on picking this device up soon!

Study Finds That Phablets Are A Fad, Mid-Sized Phones Remain Dominant

Study Finds That Phablets Are A Fad, Mid Sized Phones Remain DominantWhen Samsung first took the wraps off the original Galaxy Note, many were a little surprised at the size of the device which went well beyond the size of most smartphones during that time. Many expected it would be a novelty sort of device, but safe to say its success has not only spawned a successor in the Galaxy Note 2, but has paved the way for other devices from HTC, LG, and Sony to release similarly-sized devices as well. However according to a report from mobile marketing analyst, Flurry, they have deemed phablet devices to be a fad, and that mid-sized smartphones are currently dominating. (more…)

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Rumored To Have Unbreakable Display

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Rumored To Have Unbreakable Display

Back in December last year there were rumors floating around that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will come with an “unbreakable display”. Well the S4 was announced a fortnight ago and it has been confirmed that Samsung’s latest flagship Android smartphone does *not* have such a display. Nevermind, now there’s a rumor that the upcoming Galaxy Note 3 may have an unbreakable display, and it will be one of the most important feature of the device. It’s quite a bold claim, but while in theory OLED displays can be made to be much more resistant than their LCD counterpart (they can even be flexible), there is still a need for a glass surface for the touch sensor. Solutions exists, and Samsung has demonstrated such a flexible display at CES. Will that become a product?

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is also rumored to have an Exynos 5 Octa core processor coupled with 2GB of RAM, more on board storage, a bigger battery and a back camera of at least 8 megapixels. At this point in time it is not known what the design of Note 3 will actually be, though it is largely believed to be along the same lines of the Note II’s design. In the software department, it is expected to run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean at the very least. Previous rumors suggest that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 may be released at IFA 2013 in Berlin, which takes place in September.

Prepare Your Pockets, Samsung’s Next Galaxy Note Phablet Could Sport A 5.9-Inch Screen

galaxynote2-1

Samsung’s Galaxy S IV hasn’t even been revealed yet and news of another top-tier Samsung smartphone is already threatening to steal some of its spotlight. The Korea Times reported earlier today that the Korean electronics giant is busy working on a Galaxy Note phablet followup with a 5.9-inch display behind closed doors.

If the Korea Times’ report holds true then Samsung is taking a more measured approach to how it scales up smartphone screen sizes — as PocketNow points out this is (thankfully?) a hair smaller than what some earlier rumors suggested, since for a while there it looked like Samsung was considering pushing out a phablet with a 6.3-inch screen. The Times’ source also noted that the Note III would sport an eight-core Exynos processor, a not-so-subtle reference to Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa chipset.

Samsung isn’t the first to push up against that 6-inch barrier, and they’ll hardly be the last. Chinese OEM Huawei blew past it earlier this year when it unveiled the hefty Ascend Mate and its 6.1-inch screen at CES, and ZTE revealed its 5.7-inch Grand Memo during Mobile World Congress. For better or worse, the plus-sized phone trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.

In the past I’ve asked how big is too big for these sorts of phablets, but looking back that’s sort of a restrictive question. The word “phablet” doesn’t have a universally accepted definition (it’s usually just used to refer to big honking phones) — perhaps the better question is at what point are devices like the Note and Grand Memo more tablet than phone?

For what it’s worth, Samsung and rivals like Huawei and Asus seem keen on making that sort of distinction a meaningless one. The Korea Times report comes just days after Samsung pulled back the curtain on its Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet in Barcelona during Mobile World Congress — it’s the company’s smallest Note tablet to date and some versions of the device feature the ability to make voice calls. Asus (perhaps swept up in a fit of wordplay-induced whimsy) also showed off its 7-inch FonePad tablet at MWC, and touted its ability to place voice calls almost as much as its reasonable price tag.

Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 coming March 7 for $599

We knew it would be arriving eventually on Big Red’s network, and now it’s officially only a couple days away. Verizon has announced that the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet will be available to customers starting March 7 for $599. The tablet will be able to run off of the carrier’s blazing-fast 4G LTE network and will also come equipped with an S Pen.

P1050386-580x326

We first spotted the Verizon tablet at CES back in January and even got our hands on the thing. While it’s mostly no different than other carrier versions that have been out and about, Verizon’s 4G LTE will certainly be a huge selling point for this slate, and the gorgeous 10-inch display will allow to stream content at glorious speeds.

If you haven’t been keeping up with the new tablet, the Galaxy Note 10.1 comes with a quad-core Exynos processor clocked at 1.4GHz with 2GB RAM, and a 7,000mAh battery to power the tablet. The slate runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung’s Multi-view multi window mode, which allows for complete resizing and dragging of windows, similar to a desktop.

Of course, we reviewed the tablet back in August, so if you’re thinking about taking the plunge and getting the Galaxy Note 10.1 on Verizon’s network, have a look at our full review to help you decided if it’s your kind of tablet. The only difference is that you’ll be granted Big Red’s LTE, as well as the big Verizon logo on the back.

Samsung Plans To Sell 1 Million Galaxy Note 8.0 Tablets Each Month

Samsung Plans To Sell 1 Million Galaxy Note 8.0 Tablets Each Month

Samsung confirmed earlier this year it planned to unveil its Galaxy Note 8 at Mobile World Congress, and the company did just that earlier this week as they look to directly compete with the iPad Mini. And now that MWC is officially over, Samsung is reportedly very confident in its ability to sell the Android-powered tablet.

According to Taiwanese site DigiTimes, Samsung is aiming to ship around one milling units of the Galaxy Note 8.0 every month. This isn’t the first time the company has shown its confidence in selling its Galaxy products as earlier this year, they believed they would sell 10 million Galaxy S4 smartphones every month.

We know a lot of you like the Galaxy Note 2 and the iPad Mini’s success shows there’s a market for smaller tablets. But would this translate to one million Galaxy Note 8.0 sales on a monthly basis after it’s released? Only time will tell, although we think Samsung may be overshooting the amount of Galaxy Note 8.0s it’ll sell on a monthly basis.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 spotted at MWC, almost hides your entire hand (updated with video)

Samsung Galaxy Note 80 spotted at MWC,

At last, here’s what we’ve been promised: an 8-inch flavor of Samsung’s Galaxy Note lineup. Spotted by an anonymous tipster on the MWC show floor earlier today, the booth shows off said tablet designed with portrait usage in mind, meaning it’ll pretty much cover up most of whichever hand you’ll be holding it with. And obviously, the Note 8.0 comes with a stylus as well. There’s not much more to share at this point, but we’ll be seeing this new device in its full glory very soon, so stay tuned. One more shot after the break.

Update: The folks over at Beste Product caught a few models posing with the Galaxy Note 8.0 for Samsung’s photographer. The Dutch website even has a video — embedded after the break — of the whole action, and there you can see some design similarities of the tablet’s backside, especially how the camera protrudes a little.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 leaked at MWC

It would appear that Samsung will indeed be showing off their fabled Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet this coming week at Mobile World Congress 2013. We’ve been sent a sort of spy-shot of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 being blasted on a large screen inside the new MWC convention location – the show still being set up in a very large way. True to what we’ve seen in several leaked bits and pieces over the past couple of weeks, this device is everything you might expect it to be – with an 8-inch screen!

gnote_mwc

What we’re seeing here is tablet device that’s ever-so-slightly larger than the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, this time sporting much of the same look and the S-Pen that the most recent Galaxy Tab lineup works with. This device appears to be very much working along the lines of the Samsung Galaxy Note II and the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, complete with a similar-sized bezel, silvery rim, and 2nd-gen S-Pen. We also know now that it comes in white – surprise!

Other than that it’s a relative mystery as to what we’re going to work with. One of the stranger bits we’re seeing here is the inclusion of the earpiece speaker that we’d otherwise only see on a Galaxy Note II or smaller handset. Generally this kind of speaker is made for holding up to your ear – could this be the largest smartphone yet?

You’ll want to have a peek at our full collection of Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 tips and leaks in the timeline below. Until such a time as we’ve got confirmation of specifications, you know as much as we do – stay tuned to our Samsung tag portal as well as our Mobile World Congress 2013 tag portal all week long for what’s certainly going to be an exciting week!

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Price, Release Date Leak [Rumor]

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Price, Release Date Leak [Rumor]

It shouldn’t be a big surprise at this point Samsung is planning to deliver an 8-inch version of its Galaxy Note line of tablets, considering we’ve seen a number of leaked images with the device being confirmed by Samsung earlier this year. All we need right about now is for Samsung to officially unveil the Galaxy Note 8.0, which we are hearing may take place at the end of March.

The possible reveal date comes from Tablet.bg who has both the release date and price of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 8.0. According to them, the Wi-Fi version will be priced roughly at $478. The 3G Galaxy Note 8.0 is expected to sell for roughly $594, both prices originally being revealed in Bulgarian leva, which we’re sure you are fresh out of at this point.

Both prices are higher than what Apple is currently asking for its iPad Mini as its Wi-Fi version retails for $329 and 3G version $459. We certainly enjoy the Galaxy Note devices, especially the Galaxy Note 10.1, but if Samsung goes through with this pricing for the Galaxy Note 8.0, we’re not sure if potential Galaxy Note customers would be willing to pay that much for their 8-inch tablet.
