Samsung Galaxy Note Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Update Arrives

Samsung Galaxy Note Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Update ArrivesFolks who own the Samsung Galaxy Note (N7000) will be pleased to hear that the long awaited Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update has finally arrived and ready for your download. The rollout is said to be gradual, meaning it will happen in stages, but so far initial reports from users worldwide do seem to point towards a generally favorable reception. What does this latest Android update bring to the tablet? Pardon the pun there.

For starters, the operating system will be bumped all the way to version 4.1.2. Yes, I know, it is not exactly cutting edge since it would miss out on Android 4.2 as with other more recent devices, but at least this means you will be able to enjoy some Project Butter goodness, in addition to other stuff such as Google Now, a new customizable notification area, Multi-View, new gallery, Pop-up Play, Smart Rotation, Page Buddy, continuous keyboard input, and Samsung Cloud services, among others. If you have yet to receive the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update on your Galaxy Note, patience is the keyword here. Nice to see Samsung roll it out earlier than expected.

Report: Samsung Galaxy 8.0 Will Be Available In Three Variations

Report: Samsung Galaxy 8.0 Will Be Available In Three Variations

We know Samsung is planning on releasing an 8-inch version of its Samsung Galaxy Note, which will act as a smaller version of its Galaxy Note 10.1. We’ve even seen some leaked photos of the Galaxy Note 8.0, but today, we’re hearing potential customers may have a number of options to consider when purchasing the purchasing the 8-inch tablet.

No – you won’t be able to purchase your Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 in Hot Rod Red or Peppermint Pink. Instead, the variations we could expect are the GT-N5100 (Wi-Fi + 3G), GT-N5110 (Wi-Fi only), and GT-N5105 (Wi-Fi + 3G + LTE) with each of these planning to be released in Europe, although we’re sure a U.S. release is planned, too.

We expect Samsung to announce its Galaxy Note 8.0 some time during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month. Judging by previous leaks, we could see it running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and feature a 1280 x 800 resolution, an S Pen stylus, quad-core 1.6GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel rear camera, microSD card slot and a 4,600mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy Note Battery Explodes

Samsung Galaxy Note Battery ExplodesHmmm, it seems that the batteries in phones melting are starting to make a comeback in news feeds yet again, with the latest being a Samsung Galaxy Note reported to have “exploded” (and by saying so, we mean that the battery has some issues) in the pants pocket of a 55-year old man in South Korea, resulting in some second degree burns on his right thigh. The victim did file a report over at the Bupyeong Fire Station in Incheon, South Korea, and we do wonder whether Samsung will do anything about the situation, considering a recent story about an Apple iPhone’s battery melting.

When approached to comment on the situation, a Samsung spokesman had this to say, “Lithium ion batteries can catch fire due to external pressure or sudden changes in temperature, so we’re trying to understand what really happened.” Perhaps it is time to take a step back and remember that we should always purchase original parts and not save a few dollars here and there just because there is a far cheaper battery in the market.

Samsung Galaxy Note Receiving Android Jelly Bean As Early As March 1

Samsung Galaxy Note Receiving Android Jelly Bean As Early As March 1

Samsung Galaxy Note users have been waiting for the moment when their favorite device will receive Android Jelly Bean. It was confirmed in December the Galaxy Note would be receiving Jelly Bean, but when is the question all Galaxy Note users have been asking since then.

According to a leak on the Samsung Ukraine website, its Galaxy Note is expected to start receiving Android Jelly Bean starting on March 1. That doesn’t necessarily mean you should be checking your Galaxy Note every minute to see if Jelly Bean is available as the chart leaked onto the Samsung Ukraine website may not be offering the exact date when Jelly Bean will be available in the U.S.

Android Jelly Bean releases for additional Samsung Galaxy devices are also mentioned in the leak as Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus owners can expect Jelly Bean to begin rolling out on February 22, while Galaxy Tab 8.9 owners could see Jelly Bean as early as January 24.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 shows up in the wild

We’ve been hearing plenty of chatter about Samsung’s rumored 8-inch Galaxy Note tablet lately, and we’ve already seen plenty of leaks of the new tablet, as well as a hint from a Samsung exec that we should be seeing the new device at Mobile World Congress next month. However, we’re now seeing the tablet itself out in the wild in all its glory.

tab4_b_7733

Italian website DDay.it ended up getting a hold of some photos of the new device, where the tablet is actually being used by a patron out in the public without so much as a, “How do you do?” It’s said that this is the Galaxy Note 8.0 that Samsung may reveal at Mobile World Congress, and while we’re definitely excited for an 8-inch variant of the Note, the tablet looks pretty much like an enlarged Galaxy S III.

However, what’s perhaps particularly striking is the button layout. Samsung’s Galaxy tablets in the past have traditionally used on-screen buttons when Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich rolled around, but it looks like the new Galaxy Note 8.0 is a different story. Instead, it looks to have a physical home button, with two capacitive touch buttons.

The photos also suggest that the Galaxy Note 8.0 will have two cameras, one on the back and one on the front. Plus, there looks to be a speaker above its display, which we’ve seen before on the Galaxy Tab 7. Other than that, it’s rumored that the new tablet will have a 1280×800 resolution, a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and up to 32GB of internal storage with a microSD card for expandable opportunities.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Reportedly Caught On Camera, Inherits Design Language Of Galaxy Note II

tab4_b_7733

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 is rumored for an official unveiling at Mobile World Congress next week in Barcelona, but this week it’s been the subject of a lot of rumors and speculation ahead of release. Today, there’s a new leak from Italy’s DDAY.it that purports to show the Galaxy Note 8 in action in the hands of an actual user. The pics are a lot more convincing than the SamMobile leak of a brochure shot of the same from earlier in the week, with a design that’s reminiscent of Samsung’s most recent smartphones.

The Galaxy Note 8 that’s apparently depicted in these photos looks essentially like a blown up Galaxy Note II, with a rounded rectangle shell framing an 8-inch display. Down at the bottom of the bezel you see a physical home button, framed on either side by a back button and what looks like a multitasking button as touch-sensitive keys. You can also see a front-facing camera, as well as a rear camera without a visible flash. There’s also an S-Pen holster integrated into the bottom right of the rear casing, as you can see in the first image above.

The Galaxy Note 8 is supposedly going to arrive with 2GB of RAM on board, with the front camera pegged at 1.3 megapixels, and the rear at 5 megapixels. The display is supposed to be around 1280 x 800, which, while not mind-blowingly dense, still beats the iPad mini with 189 ppi vs. 163 ppi for Apple’s smaller tablet. A report from earlier this week suggest it will have a 1.6GHz quad core processor under the hood.

A MWC unveiling makes sense for this device, since Samsung showed off the Galaxy Note 10.1 with S-Pen at the event in Barcelona last year. And this design, while different from the SamMobile leak from Tuesday, bears a striking similarity to that device, meaning one or the other likely represents a slightly different pre-production design.

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: January 22, 2013

Welcome to Tuesday evening everyone. Perhaps the biggest story from the afternoon, Samsung’s reported mobile roadmap for 2013 leaked out with the rumored Galaxy Note 8 leading the charge. We heard that the highly anticipated Galaxy S IV might be getting an announcement on March 22, while Microsoft finally announced Surface Pro’s release date, setting it for February 9, 2013. The iPhone might have its best-selling quarter yet in Q1, while Google revealed its earnings for Q4 2012 (spoiler alert: it made a lot of money).

Speaking of quarterly results, AMD posted its report for Q4 2012 as well today, but the company’s earnings ultimately left something to be desired. Microsoft might help Dell become a private company with an investment in the billions, while Surface RT is getting a new 64GB variant and a bunch of different accessories. ZeniMax Online Studios opened up beta registration for The Elder Scrolls Online today, and the 2014 Corvette has been spotted in the wild.

ASUS quietly introduced the VivoBook S330 notebook today, and we learned that Mozilla is working on a version of Firefox for the upcoming OUYA Android console. Synaptics has given its ClearPad touch technology to the all new Razer Edge Pro, and JVC has announced its new MirrorLink receiver, which plays nice with your smartphone. We heard that Zombieland is destined to become a web series after plans for a TV have been left behind, and Orchestra has opened up a reservation system for the soon-to-be-released Mailbox email client for iOS.

We saw a pair of new prototype glasses that protect you from facial recognition today, while Tasker for Android was given an all new user interface. Twitter was seen rolling out an update for embedded tweets, and Nintendo announced that it will be revealing new Wii U games during tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct livestream. Google said that Motorola had “12 to 18 months” of products in the pipeline when it was purchased by the search giant, AT&T seems to be experiencing some U-Verse outages, and we heard that a 5-inch iPhone may not launch until 2014. Finally tonight, Chris Burns delivers his review of the Wicked Audio Solus headphones and tells us why the Galaxy Note 8 is challenging the iPad Mini before its even announced. That does it for tonight’s Evening Wrap-Up, we hope you enjoy the rest of the night folks!

8-inch Galaxy Note headed for MWC 2013 reveal according to Samsung boss

We’ve already heard about Samsung’s supposedly upcoming 8-inch Galaxy Note, but so far, the company hasn’t made any official announcement. If a new report from iNews24 is to be believed, then that will all be changing soon, with Samsung‘s JK Shin apparently confirming the device for MWC 2013. Perhaps this means a launch won’t be too far behind? One can only hope.

IMG_6267-580x386

Shin also took things a step further by saying the Note that’s on display at MWC 2013 will have an 8-inch screen, which has been a rumored feature of the device for quite some time. If you’re looking for more details on specifications from the Samsung executive, however, you’re out of luck. Shin only confirmed the 8-inch screen, so we’ll have to wait at least a bit longer for additional information to arrive.

According to some of the latest rumors, this 8-inch addition to the Galaxy Note tablet line will be displaying at 1200 x 800 resolution, feature a 5MP snapper around the back, and use 2GB of RAM. Reports on the CPU peg the tablet with either a quad-core Exynos 4 processor or an Exynos 5 Octa, the latest and greatest from Samsung that was revealed just a few weeks back during CES 2013. All in all it sounds like a decent tablet, but keep in mind that none of those internals have been confirmed by the company yet.

We’ve also been hearing rumors about a 6.5-inch Galaxy Note III, which would further blur the line between tablet and phone. That reported 6.5-inch display would dwarf the screens of the first two Galaxy Note phones, so if that rumor is accurate, then Samsung will be taking a pretty big risk with the Galaxy Note III. Group these rumors with the whispers of the Galaxy S IV, and we’ve got plenty of reasons to be excited for Samsung’s 2013. Stay tuned.
