Android 4.1.2 ROM leaked for Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100)

If you own an international Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100), you might be pleased to know that a leaked Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean ROM has made its way onto the internet, and based on the feedback of those who have flashed it, this build appears to be pretty stable which could be an indication that Samsung could be close to rolling it out to the masses. As expected, this ROM will bring the same features and experience that one might be able to expect from Jelly Bean, which means that users can look forward to Project Butter along with a host of other features. This ROM does contain minor bugs according to some, but then again that’s more or less to be expected. In any case this will require you to know how to flash ROMs onto your phone, so if you are unfamiliar perhaps you should give this a miss until the official update has been rolled out, or you could always go ahead and do your homework before proceeding. The ROM and the flashing instructions can be found here and as always, proceed with caution!

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean headed for Samsung Galaxy S2 in November

Jelly BeanEarlier today we reported that Samsung had revealed that the Samsung Galaxy S3 will be getting its Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update in October, but we’re sure that there are plenty of Galaxy S2 owners out there who are curious about the status of their device – when will they be seeing the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for their device too? Well thanks to Samsung Sweden, it has been revealed that Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S2 will be released in November, a month after its successor gets it. No specific dates were mentioned and we are assuming that this update will be for the international version of the Galaxy S2, especially since some Galaxy S2 variants in the US are tied to carriers where the update will have to go through them first before being pushed out to the user. In any case we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled, so be sure to check back with us at a later date where hopefully we will have some specific dates for you!

TMobile's latest Galaxy S II update quietly nixed 'universal search' feature

As you may or may not know, there’s been an issue related to the universal search feature inside a region-specific batch of Samsung Galaxy S IIIs; with the Korean company going as far as “inadvertently” removing it from some Euro handsets a while back, before eventually bringing it back to life. Now, thanks to great, thorough inspecting by the folks from Android Police, it appears T-Mobile’s S II flavor is the latest galactic slab to have such searching trait completely wiped out from the device. Apparently, this took place during the T989UVLH1 update from T-Mo a couple of days ago, but much to everyone’s surprise, mentions of any “universal search” tweaks were nowhere to be found on the changelog. More importantly, how’s it looking on your end? Do let us know in the comments below.

Samsung Galaxy S2 gets a Crystal Edition, designed for the ladies in mind

With the emphasis being placed on faster and more powerful phones these days, we’re not sure if there’s still a market for phones which are more than a year old. However if for whatever reason you still can’t let go of the Samsung Galaxy S2, perhaps in favor of the Galaxy S3 or the upcoming Galaxy Note 2, you might be interested to learn that Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S2 Crystal Edition. In case the name itself did not already give it away, the Crystal Edition of the Galaxy S2 is being targeted at the female audience and will sport a leather backing adorned with 129 Swarovski crystals. Apart from the bling-factor, the phone remains the same which means a 4.3” Super AMOLED Plus display, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor with an 8MP rear-facing camera and a 1,650mAh battery on board. The handset is expected to be showcased at IFA in Berlin which will be taking place this week and is also expected to retail for €599 (~$751). So, any takers?

Rumored Galaxy S II Plus resurfaces adds purported specs and pictures

It’s been a long, long time since we first saw the unannounced Galaxy S II Plus show up in some leaked benchmarks. Today, however, Sammy’s souped-up flavor of that famed S2 is making the rounds on the interwebs once more, and better yet, we’ve got an idea of what it could look like physically come its official revelation. According to Chilean carrier VTR, Samsung’s Galaxy S II Plus will be sporting a 4.5-inch AMOLED display, which is said to be paired alongside a dual-core, 1.5GHz Exynos CPU, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage and an 8-megapixel rear camera — notably, the site’s also listing it as an Ice Cream Sandwich device, making it slightly different than what we’d seen previously in earlier benchmark scores. Either way, all signs point toward the Korean outfit being close to legitimately introducing its S II Plus sooner rather than later; while we wait for that to happen, though, the angled shots after the break will have to suffice.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean “confirmed” for the Samsung Galaxy S2

A week ago we reported that according to SamMobile, rumor had it that the Samsung Galaxy S2 among other Samsung devices would be receiving the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. Well the folks at SamMobile are back again and this time according to one of their sources, they have “confirmed” that the Galaxy S2 will indeed receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update and that Samsung is currently in the process of testing it. They also expect that the update should roll out in the September-October timeframe. However given that there has been no official confirmation from Samsung themselves, we suggest that you not get your hopes up just yet in order to avoid disappointment. In the meantime for Galaxy S3 owners, the update is indeed real and a leaked version of the test firmware can be downloaded, albeit at your own risk although the full and final version is rumored for an August 29th release. In any case we suggest you take this with a grain of salt and remember, seeing is believing! Be sure to check back with us at a later date for more info.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean spotted on Galaxy S2 with CyanogenMod 10

Newer devices such as the HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Samsung Galaxy Note that have early Android 4.1 Jelly Bean builds of CyanogenMod 10 have all been spotted in the past, and this leads us to the question – how does Jelly Bean hold up in a device which is one generation behind, such as the Samsung Galaxy 2? Well, you can find out further in the video above. It is said that South Korean consumer electronics giant Samsung has plans to include the Galaxy S2 under the wings of Jelly Bean, although there is no concrete release date just yet. For those who are a tad impatient, here is word that you can already run a custom ROM of CyanogenMod 10 on your rooted Samsung Galaxy S2, with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in tow.

It is said that majority of the Galaxy S2′s functions will work just fine, although there are some issues that users have run into such as the possibility of a random reboot, but it is more or less a close shadow of what the final and official version would be like.

We did talk about how the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich ROM was leaked for the Droid Bionic sometime last month, and more recently, on how the very same version of the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system update resulted in issues for the Sony Xperia S, but here is news on how Android 4.0.4 has made its way to the Samsung Galaxy S2. This version is leaked, so nothing is final yet, and you will obviously proceed at your own caution.

The build date stands at June 28, with details such as PDA: I9100XXLQ5, MODEM: I9100XXLQ5 and CSC: I9100OXALQ5 accompanying it. You can opt to perform the device update via Samsung KIES or over the air (OTA).
