Android 4.4 For Galaxy S3 And Galaxy Note 2 Still On The Cards

OEMs give priority to their most recent devices whenever major updates are released. We witnessed this with Samsung and Android 4.4 KitKat. So far the update has only been released for Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4, its two flagships from 2013. Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 owners are still waiting on the update, it was expected to drop by the end of March, but we didn’t hear anything about it. Now the expected time frame sits between mid-April and early May, this according to a user in South Korea who contacted Samsung customer support.

Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 Android 4.4 Update Expected By End Of March

Galaxy S3 GT I9300 Android 4.4 Update Expected By End Of March

A few weeks back it was rumored that the Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 Android 4.4 update is not going to be released. The reason behind this is believed to be the fact that this smartphone has 1GB RAM, which may not be enough to support the update as well as the accompanying hefty TouchWiz user interface. Since then there have been conflicting reports over the matter, and just last week it was rumored that perhaps Samsung has changed its mind and that its going to release the update for GT-I9300 after all.

Galaxy S3 Slim Spotted On Samsung Brazil’s Website

Galaxy S3 Slim Spotted On Samsung Brazils WebsiteWe’re not sure if it’s a good or bad thing that Samsung loves to release multiple variants of the same handset, let alone try and revisit a handset that’s about 2 years old by now. On Samsung’s Brazilian website, the company has revealed a new handset called the Galaxy S3 Slim.

Yup, you read that right, Samsung is looking to release a handset variant based on the Galaxy S3 from two years ago, and it seems that this variant is not even as powerful as its original model, which is a little odd given today’s technology, so there is a good chance that this model will target emerging markets who might not have enough money for a higher-end device. The Galaxy S3 was one of Samsung’s best performing smartphones. Even now there is a sizeable majority of users that has chosen not to upgrade from this outdated flagship. No matter how popular it may be, that doesn’t mean it would be on the top of the OEMs list for major software updates. Samsung Galaxy S3 And Note 2 Rumored To Receive Android 4.4.2 By End Of March

Samsung Galaxy S3 And Note 2 Rumored To Receive Android 4.4.2 By End Of MarchIt is not surprising that Samsung’s newer devices, like the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3 are on the receiving end of the latest build of Android, but what about Samsung’s older devices? If there was a drawback to not owning a Nexus device is that you never know if and when your OEM decides to update to the latest build of Android, but the good news is that if you own either the Galaxy S3 or the Galaxy Note 2 from back in 2012, you’d be in luck because according the rumors, Samsung is expected to update both handsets to Android 4.4.2 KitKat by the end of March.

Last we heard the rumors claimed that the update could only arrive in April, but thanks to insider info received by the folks at Android Geeks, they claim that the update will arrive by the end of March instead, a good month earlier than expected which we guess is a good thing. The good news about the KitKat update is that it wasn’t designed with high-end and powerful devices in mind, but rather the low-end, meaning that devices that aren’t too old should be able to be updated to it, so it’s really a matter of whether the companies that make the phones want to upgrade them or not. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now and try not to get your hopes up just yet, but check back with us at a later date to see there are any additional details to be had.

Well, it seems that all of that patient waiting has finally paid off, as we now know that Verizon’s Galaxy S3 is the next recipient of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, bumping up the software version to JJSS15J.I535VRUCML1.

T-Mobile Galaxy S3 LTE Receives Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Update

T Mobile Galaxy S3 LTE Receives Android 4.3 Jelly Bean UpdateIt has been nearly one month after the original Samsung Galaxy S3 on T-Mobile was on the receiving end of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean mobile operating system, which means it should not be too long after that that the LTE-enabled model of the smartphone, too, would want to pick up some Android 4.3 Jelly Bean goodness for itself. Well, we are more than glad to announce that T-Mobile has already announced the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update will be arriving on the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE (t999L), where it will feature baseband version T999LUVUBMK4. This particular update will be making its way through Over The Air (OTA) as well as via Samsung’s Kies computer software.

Once you have updated your Galaxy S3 LTE smartphone to baseband version T999LUVUBMK4, you might just realize that your smartphone now supports Samsung’s very own Galaxy Gear smartwatch alongside its Knox security software. Samsung also did mention that the Premium Suite update will be accompanied by advanced camera options and a slew of other new features. Better late than never, I say. Oh yeah, and one more thing – if you are about to make that update, it is always a good idea to perform a backup of the existing handset just in case. [Press Release]
