Samsung Galaxy S3 mini firmware released

Developers, heads up! If your fingers are itching for some programming action and you want to do something with the Samsung Galaxy S3 mini, then the moment has arrived, as the first firmware for the Galaxy S3 mini has just been announced. Just to have a quick recap on what the Galaxy S3 mini brings to the table, it will run on the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean operating system, where it will be accompanied by a 4″ Super AMOLED display at 480 x 800 resolution, a 5-megapixel camera at the back, and a 1GHz dual-core processor to boot. Sure, you will not find any kind of quad-core goodness, but for the size of it, the Galaxy S3 mini makes for a decent mid-range smartphone.

You will also be able to take advantage of the Touch Wiz user interface from Samsung to sweeten your Android experience, and there is NFC capability which will surely see far more use for it in the future than now. Any developers interested in picking up the Galaxy S3 mini to give their programming brains a go with the new firmware?

Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini announced

It is a known fact that there is undeniable tension between the two corporate giants in the world of technology at the moment – Samsung and Apple, with the former managing to claim up to $1 billion in damages from the South Korean conglomerate in a court ruling earlier this year, where Samsung was deemed to have infringed upon Apple’s patents. Incidentally, Samsung is one of the main suppliers of parts to some of Apple’s best selling devices including the iPad, leading to that added touch of intrigue. Well, the game of one upmanship continues between the two of them, where we do hear whispers of Apple preparing to roll out a 7.85” version of the iPad, appropriately calling it the iPad mini. Perhaps out of this rivalry, Samsung wants to go one up on Apple with their Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini by announcing it in Germany yesterday.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, as its name suggests, is a compact version of the South Korean conglomerate’s flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S3. The Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini will deliver a similar high performance, intuitive ease-of-use and nature-inspired design of its larger sized sibling, albeit with a slightly smaller display at 4”, making it the ideal choice for those who want to use their smartphones with a single hand.

As for the operating system of choice, you will find Android 4.1 Jelly Bean installed right out of the box, while delivering what Samsung claims as “stunning graphical capabilities, fast screen transitions, and an upgraded Google Now service featuring contextual search.” Sporting an ultra-minimal curved frame, the Galaxy S3 Mini will deliver a rich natural feel, while its 4” Super AMOLED display lets you view images in a generous manner in brilliant color and clarity. It will also come with S Voice, Samsung’s choice of an advanced natural language recognition software.

No idea on pricing just yet, but one thing’s for sure – if you always wanted the Samsung Galaxy S3 but didn’t really like its size, then the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini might just be the smartphone for you.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini photo and specs leaked ahead of official launch

Samsung has confirmed that it will be unveiling the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini tomorrow, but apart from its 4” display, what sort of specs will it pack under the hood, and how will it look like? Well the folks at Mobile Geeks have managed to get their hands on a photo of what they claim is the Galaxy S3 Mini along with its specs. Assuming the photo above is true, it seems that Samsung is keeping to the design of the Galaxy S3, albeit in a smaller form factor but apart from that it shares some design similarities.

As for its specs, the Galaxy S3 Mini is expected to feature a 4” Super AMOLED 800×480 display, a STE U8420 dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded via microSD, a 5MP rear-facing camera, a 1,500mAh battery and will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board. Mobile Geek has stated that while the processor clock speed at 1GHz is confirmed, the choice of processor may not be the STE U8420. In any case it certainly looks like a low-mid ranged device, but we guess those details should be confirmed tomorrow, so be sure to check back with us then for more updates!

Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini confirmed, is a 4-inch device

There has been plenty of rumors surrounding what could very well be a smaller version of the Samsung Galaxy S3, where it has culminated in the device being widely known as the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini (which we have seen its UAProf prior). It seems that the Galaxy S3 Mini is slated to be released as a 4” device, where Samsung executive JK Shin has confirmed that the Galaxy S3 Mini will be unveiled to the world first in Germany tomorrow.

The reason why it will see a Germany debut is because Samsung figured out that there is more than enough demand for a 4” device in the European region, hence justifying its release in that part of the world. It is widely believed that the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini will be pretty much similar to its regular sized brother in terms of hardware design, except for the fact that it will come in a shrunken form factor. Just which part of the hardware underneath the hood do you think Samsung will remove in order to accommodate the newer and more petite size? [Translated Page]

Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini purported to appear on retailers’ systems

There were earlier rumors of an October 11th release of the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, while its UAProf was leaked just before last weekend arrived, meaning it makes perfect sense for reports of the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini to start appearing on retailers’ systems. No idea on just how true this particular leak is, as a retailer could just include the name of an unreleased device into its database just in case, instead of carrying actual stock of it, but should that be the case with the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini this time around, how come the retailer bothered to throw in two color options for the Galaxy S3 Mini? Perhaps it is to differentiate the models that come with NFC as well as those without.

Well, all we can do now is just sit tight and wait – after all, it is always far better to receive information from the horse’s mouth instead of just relying on rumors.themselves. Would you be interested in a rumored mid-range device like the Galaxy S3 Mini, or do you think that you would just give this a pass and settle for its big brother instead that has all the bells and whistles which are right up your alley?

Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini (GT-I8190) UAProf revealed

samsung_logoHmmm, there were speculations over the week concerning the possible release date this coming October 11th for the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, a device that has yet to be confirmed officially by the good people over at Samsung, but perhaps the revealing of the GT-I8190’s User Agent Profile (UAProf) might lead to another clue as to the possible reality of the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini.

The UAProf of Samsung’s upcoming smartphone has already been published on Samsung Mobile’s WAP site, although the XML profile failed to reveal additional information other than the Android operating system, an ‘ARM11’ processor as well as a display which returns a rather meagre 480 × 800 pixels resolution in this day and age, confirming our suspicions that the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini (Samsung GT-I8190 if you prefer the model number) is but a mid-range device. Other rumors point to a 5-megapixel camera and a 4” Super AMOLED display to go along with the device.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini and Galaxy Music to be unveiled on the 11th of October?

Last week, an image of the Samsung Galaxy Music was spotted, although when exactly will we learn about the device in an official capacity remains to be seen but thanks to Samsung reportedly sending out invitations to an event on the 11th of October, perhaps that could be the date where more details will be revealed. It has also been speculated that the 11th of October date is when the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini will be revealed. According to the rumors, the Galaxy S3 Mini will feature a smaller (mini) display at 4”, a 5MP rear-facing camera, a dual-core CPU and will run on the latest version of Android which we’re assuming will be Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Allegedly dubbed the Galaxy S3 Mini, this device seems more the Galaxy S rather than the Galaxy S3, but perhaps it will feature the same design as the Galaxy S3 so we guess we will have to wait and see. The event will be taking place at the Samsung Mobile Store in Frankfurt so do check back with us on the 11th for the details!
