Galaxy S3 becomes all-time top-selling device with T-Mobile

Samsung launched the third release on its Galaxy S line-up of smartphones, Galaxy S3, with a lot of high hopes. The company went a long way to equip the device with the top-of-the-range hardware as well as a number of really cool features. Subsequently, after the launch, Samsung officials cited high hopes with the sales of Galaxy S3.

Back in August this year, while the iPhone 4S sales had retarded in anticipation for the iPhone 5 release, Galaxy S3 was able to grab the crown of being the top-selling smartphone in the U.S. One would’ve thought that after the release of iPhone 5, Samsung’s sales may suffer an imminent decline. However, the device is apparently continuing with its success, at least in some quarters. America’s fourth largest carrier, T-Mobile, has now announced that Galaxy S3 has become its all-time best-selling device. (more…)

Rumor: Samsung is releasing a Galaxy S3 “Mini”

Here’s a fun rumor coming out of Samsung in Germany: a smaller Galaxy S3 could be announced as soon as October 11th. While the Galaxy S3 is the current Android superphone of choice and certainly the specific Android model at the moment with the most mindshare, some bloggers think there’s a market for a smaller phone that doesn’t skimp on specs. A repackaged Galaxy S3 could be just that phone. (more…)

Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ROM leaked

If you happen to be a proud owner of the Samsung Galaxy S3 while rocking to Sprint’s network, then here is news for you – it seems that the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ROM for this particular smartphone has leaked, so it might not be too long of a wait after that for the real deal to arrive. The latest Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean ROM for Sprint’s Samsung Galaxy S3 appeared on the XDA Developer’s forum, where it will include Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz skin as part of the deal. Just what can one expect from Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean? How about the silky smooth Project Butter and Google Now? There were reports from a handful of XDA members that apps end up crashing, while there are also niggling issues concerning the gyroscope to boot.

Of course, if you were to install this unofficial ROM on your Galaxy S3, bear in mind that the warranty on your device would be declared to be null and void, and if the entire handset bricks, then tough luck.

Swarovski-encrusted Samsung Galaxy S3 will set you back $3,000

We’ve seen a lot of blinged out phones before, sometimes by fashion design houses or sometimes by companies that specialize in high-end phones, like Vertu. Unfortunately most of the time these phones are more flash than substance, but if you were in the market for a phone that has both flash and substance, how about a Swarovski encrusted Samsung Galaxy S3? Sadly the photo above does not do it justice, but as you can barely make out, the edge of the Galaxy S3 has been lined with Swarovski crystals and if you have the spare cash and you’re willing, you can expect this Galaxy S3 to set you back a whopping $3390! Imagine how many regular Galaxy S3 handsets you could get with that price! In any case this blinged out version of the Galaxy S3 is brought to you by the folks at AmosuCouture who have blinged out iPhones and Blackberry devices if Android isn’t up your alley. So, any takers?

Sprint to offer Samsung Galaxy S3 for $50 on contract during Black Friday?

Planning on picking up the Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone but thought its price on contract was still a bit too steep for your liking? Granted it is a lot cheaper compared to buying it unlocked, but we’re sure that there are some out there who just do not have the money to spare. Well the good news is that thanks to a leaked flyer courtesy of the folks at Engadget, it looks like come Black Friday, Sprint will be offering the Samsung Galaxy S3 for $50 on contract! That is pretty darn cheap and like the leaked poster suggested, you will be saving yourself $150 in the process. This offer is obviously only valid on Black Friday itself which will be taking place on the 23rd of November for the year of 2012. However given that Sprint hasn’t officially announced this offer yet, there is a chance that this poster could be a fake so until then, we suggest you not get your hopes up just yet, but it is probably worth keeping in the back of your mind especially if the Samsung Galaxy S3 is a handset you’ve been eyeing for a while now.

Samsung Galaxy S3 remote wipe security issue gets patched

Yesterday we reported that due to an exploit, Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones could have their data wiped completely simply by clicking on a link. Certainly bad news for Galaxy owners who may or may not be as discerning when surfing websites, but the good news is that Samsung wasted no time in closing up the exploit. The company has since released an update for their Galaxy S3 handsets that will patch it up, although it is unclear as to whether the other affected Galaxy handsets like the Galaxy S2, Galaxy S Advance, Galaxy Beam and Galaxy Ace have been patched as well. In a statement issued by Samsung:

We would like to assure our customers that the recent security issue concerning the GALAXY S III has already been resolved through a software update. We recommend all GALAXY S III customers to download the latest software update, which can be done quickly and easily via the Over-The-Air (OTA) service.

Samsung Galaxy S3 used to replace car head unit in DIY project

Given that our smartphones these days can probably do a lot more than your radio unit in your car, we guess it’s not surprising that some have turned to using their smartphones as replacement entertainment devices while driving. Granted you should not be driving while watching movies or updating your Twitter/Facebook account, but here’s a very DIY way of turning your smartphone into an entertainment unit as demonstrated by Steve.

Basically what he did was instead of replacing his JVC head unit in his car with a new one, he decided to replace it with his existing Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone. It did not take a lot of work and we guess anyone can do it with their phones as well. What he did was he modified a standard car charger so that the phone charges while the car’s engine is running, and hooked up the audio out from his phone to the amplifier which he has in his trunk. Granted it’s not the most elegant solution but it works. Steve admits that it could do with some improvement but for now we don’t see why other car owners looking to “modernize” their vehicles can’t follow in his footsteps.

Android 4.1 update reportedly rolling out to international Samsung Galaxy S3 devices starting in Poland

Good news international Samsung Galaxy S3 users, it seems that the much awaited Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updated has begun rolling out for you guys! There have been reports that users in Poland have begun receiving the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for their international Galaxy S3 (GT-i9300) and other regions with the international Galaxy S3 should receive the update in due time. However instead of getting the update via OTA, the update is instead being pushed through Samsung’s Kies software so if you have the international Galaxy S3, plug your phone into your computer, fire up Kies and see if the update is ready for you to download. If not then it should be making its way onto your phone in a matter of days. This is a bit odd considering that according to Samsung Denmark, Android 4.1 is due in October although there is a chance that the October window could for Denmark. For those who have received it already, do let us know in the comments below on how it is treating you!

Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE to come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in tow?

While the Samsung Galaxy S3 has yet to receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update even though said update is already in the works, there are whispers going around that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE variant will in fact, ship with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the most recent version of Google’s mobile operating system. Bear in mind that there has been no official confirmation concerning its status just yet, but there are other reports making their rounds on the Internet concerning the rollout of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for Samsung Galaxy S3 handsets, regardless of whether they are carrier-branded or international versions.

According to the good people over at Android Central, they published what they claim is a Galaxy S3 LTE with 2GB RAM and Samsung’s quad-core Exynos processor running underneath the hood. CNET Asia did share some word on the LTE-enabled version of the Galaxy S3 that it might make its way to Singapore at the end of this month, retailing for $801.90 as an unlocked device, which is allegedly a similar unit as the South Korean bound model.

Samsung Galaxy S3 used to test Tizen

It seems that the folks over at Samsung are busy with the “next big thing” that is already in the market, the Samsung Galaxy S3. The thing is, the Galaxy S3 that is being worked upon is no ordinary Galaxy S3 that you can find in store shelves, simply because it is being used to test out Tizen, right after Samsung picked up a WiFi certification for it to boot. No idea exactly on why Samsung has decided to work with Tizen on the Galaxy S3, but hopefully we will have more questions than answers in due time. Perhaps Samsung might be testing Tizen on a yet to be announced handset that shares the same hardware specifications as the Galaxy S3?

Other than that, we should not discount the possibility of Tizen being some sort of top secret application that no one knows about, yet. After all, Samsung did delay the arrival of the first batch of Tizen devices to next year, while an even crazier rumor out there has made its rounds, claiming that Samsung has decided to merge both Tizen with Bada in order to create a totally new platform that will target the low/mid-end market. What do you think?
