Android 4.1 Jelly Bean “confirmed” for international Samsung Galaxy S3 models next week

About a week ago, we reported that according to the rumor mill, it was suggested that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean could be making its way onto the Samsung Galaxy S3 next week, specifically the 29th of August which coincidentally is when Samsung will be unveiling the Galaxy Note 2. If you were still doubting that 29th of August date, the folks at Android Central are now claiming that according to their sources, they can “confirm” that international Samsung Galaxy S3 models will indeed receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update next week. It’s not a surprise that the update will only be pushed to international models first as carrier-tied models, specifically those in the US, will require carrier approval before the updates have been pushed out. In any case this “confirmation” is still unofficial as far as we’re concerned, but might be worth noting especially if you’re an owner of an international Samsung Galaxy S3 model. Take this with a grain of salt and check back with us on the 29th of the details.

Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean leaked for Samsung Galaxy S3 without any restrictions

Near the end of the previous working week, we talked about how Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean test firmware for the Samsung Galaxy S3 has been made available for download, but it seems that the Galaxy S3 Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update has leaked out yet again. Just how is this relevant to last week’s release? Well, it seemed that the update which was released last week had its fair share of restrictions concerning firmware and carriers, but this latest version no longer has such restrictions in place, and they can be easily downloaded and installed by anybody who has the international Samsung Galaxy S3 model in their possession.

Basically, if you happen to own the Samsung Galaxy S3 with the model number III GT-I9300 would be able to enjoy the update. Just bear in mind that this leaked Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update is a test firmware, and it might not even be the final version which is meant for the Galaxy S3. We await with bated breath for the official update which will, in all probability, will be released via Samsung Kies – and there are already whispers of an August 29th date circling around. Apart from that, if you install this leaked Jelly Bean update, it would mean voiding your warranty.

Black Samsung Galaxy S3 to launch in October with 64GB memory in tow?

Word on the street has it that the black colored version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 is headed for the US market this coming October, and even better news is the amount of storage space that comes with this ebony colored model – we are talking about a whopping 64GB of storage space, now how about that? This bit of information came about from UK phone retailer Clove, who claims to have additional details concerning yet another hardware revision. In fact, the good people at Phandroid did check out a landing page that Clove specially created just for the spanking new black Galaxy S3.

Well, good things always come to those who wait, and Samsung Galaxy S3 fans do remember that they did hear about a 64GB model of the Galaxy S3 at the London launch event that happened earlier this year, but since then, everything has pretty much remained on the quiet front, leading some to believe that it might not materialize anyways. I guess that is an unnecessary worry after all.

Unsecure bootloader for Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy S3 now available

Verizon subscribers, if you were a bit bummed at the fact that your Galaxy S3 came with an encrypted bootloader, thus making the loading of custom ROMs and kernels pretty much impossible, you will be pleased to learn that thanks to elite recognized XDA developer, Adam Outler, the Verizon version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 now has an unlocked bootloader. For those wondering what this means, it means that the bootloader is now open and will now let users customize the device to their hearts’ content. The unsecure bootloader can be download via the XDA forums and as Adam Outler has stated in the forums, using this unsecure bootloader can potentially brick your device should Samsung ever release an updated version of their bootloader. What this means is that in order to avoid bricking your brand new handset, you should probably avoid factory updates unless you flash the Odin Packages first. If this sounds like a foreign language to you, then you should probably avoid downloading the unsecure bootloader without doing your homework first. In the meantime we expect that many Verizon Galaxy S3 users are happily flashing custom ROMs and whatnot onto their device.

Earlier today we reported that a video had recently surfaced which showed off what appears to be a leaked Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean ROM running on a Samsung Galaxy S3. Well the good news is that if you liked what you saw and were wondering how to get your hands on the leaked ROM, the folks at SamMobile have managed to obtain the leaked ROM and have uploaded it onto their website for download. However according to SamMobile, this is a pre-release version of the build which means that it is not official yet, let alone for public consumption. They have also warned that by flashing this ROM, you could end up voiding your warranty as well. However if you’re a developer and you’re looking to get ahead of the curve, or if you’re simply curious as to what sort of changes Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean will bring about to your Galaxy S3 device, pop on over to SamMobile’s website for the download links and instructions.

If you happen to own the Samsung Galaxy S3 and cannot wait for the official Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to arrive, then you might want to take your chances with a leaked ROM – which obviously, is not official, but that does not mean it will not work. What you see above is a video of the official Jelly Bean ROM for the Samsung Galaxy S3 running nicely, although it is not released on an official basis just yet. The visual changes are not quite that drastic compared to the current Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, although you will get a smoother scrolling experience as well as being able to enjoy Google’s most recent additions to the Android environment. As usual, there are no promises of the leaked (albeit official) ROM working just fine if you want to perform an installation as you can never quite tell just when Murphy might strike.

Black Samsung Galaxy S3 hits the UK for £499.95

Most of you who own a Samsung Galaxy S3, how did you manage to come about securing your unit? Is it on a new 2-year contract, where the sticker price tag is a whole lot lower compared to an unlocked, SIM-free model? For those who do not want to be tied down to a lengthy contract for at least 24 months, here is an option that you might want to consider – a black colored version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 which we talked about over the weekend.

Yes sir, what was first revealed in a screenshot only to be taken down from an inventory system is back – and official, over at Mobilefun.co.uk. This flagship model from Samsung that was “designed for humans” will share everything else under the hood as the ordinary white and pebble blue Galaxy S3 models, albeit the version that you would drop £499.95 for would come in black, complete with 16GB of internal memory, a 1.4GHz quad-core processor, a 4.8″ display and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich right out of the box.

Any takers for this black colored Samsung Galaxy S3? Is black the new white when it comes to gadgets?

iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S3 displays pitted against each other in “drag race scratch test”

If you’re the sort of user who drops their phone often or is put into situations where your phone might be scratched, chances are you’d probably prefer a phone whose display will not scratch easily and can withstand drops and whatnot. Well one YouTube user has created a video in which he put the iPhone 4S and the Samsung Galaxy S3 through what he is calling the “World’s first drag race scratch test”, which as the name itself should probably imply, is where both phones are dragged along the road on top of different surfaces to see which device emerges the victor. It’s hardly a scientific form of testing so we suggest you take it with a grain of salt, but as far as realism is concerned, there is a good chance that some of you guys might drop your phone and have it skid across a rough surface. Either way if you’d like to see the iPhone 4S and the Samsung Galaxy S3 tied to the back of the car and dragged across the road, be sure to check it out in the video above! Warning: somewhat cringe worthy to see devices abused like that.

Black Samsung Galaxy S3 in the works?

We do know right now that there are just two official colors when it comes to the Samsung Galaxy S3 – that is white and pebble blue. There are whispers on the streets touting that a new color is about to be introduced into the Samsung Galaxy S3 ecosystem, and the color of choice would be black. What you see on the right is a screenshot that mentioned the presence of a black Samsung Galaxy S3 in a Carphone Warehouse inventory database, although a Carphone Warehouse employee did reveal that the black model was removed subsequently from the inventory. Could it have been put up there by accident?

I am quite confident that there is going to be a healthy market for a black colored version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 when it is released to the market, as there are always groups of people who think that things do not look their best other than being black in color. Perhaps additional information concerning the elusive black Samsung Galaxy S3 will be revealed when IFA 2012 happens in due time. Would you be one of those who would prefer black as the color of choice when it comes to gadgets above everything else?
